Kendrix walked over to them at a steady pace. He looked at Gary with calm eyes.

He had an epiphany of some sort and decided to walk over.

Celeste could tell that Kendrix was a fairly confident man. He was a very determined teacher. He did everything calmly. He had a powerful aura, but it made him feel a little unapproachable.

Her impression of Kendrix was quite good.

Kendrix walked up to them.

Sylvia greeted him awkwardly, "Mr. Trevino."

Kendrix glanced at Gary coldly. His gaze lingered on Gary's face for a long while before looking up to meet Gary's eyes.

When their eyes met, the two young men were both surprised.

Gary's gaze on Kendrix was calm as well.

Kendrix didn't say anything. His gaze once again shifted to Gary's hand, which was gripping onto Sylvia's wrist. This stunned Gary.

Celeste was also shocked.

It was a look that made Gary unconsciously want to let go of Sylvia.

Gary smiled slightly and let go of his sister's wrist. Then, he said with a smile, "Mr. Trevino? I am Sylvia's older brother. I have something to ask you."

Kendrix smiled faintly and asked, "Do you want to ask me why I brought your sister out at this time? And why would I choose to bring a girl out all alone by herself?" Gary's heart skipped a beat. He couldn't help himself from gaping at the man.

Kendrix did not look panicked at all. Instead, he looked calm and collected.

Gary frowned. He thought that the man was really amazing. He was able to guess what he was thinking at a glance. Those were indeed the questions he wanted to ask.

Gary had no choice but to be honest and admit that the man had guessed right. Thus, he smiled faintly and said, "That's right. Since you've already guessed what I wanted to ask you, why don't you give me the answers to them?"

Kendrix smiled and said, "I hadn't planned to bring your sister out with me. She insisted and followed me instead."

Gary frowned and immediately retorted with a smile. His gaze turned colder. "Either way, I don't think it's appropriate. My sister is still underaged."

Kendrix's words made Gary suddenly feel uncomfortable. He suddenly felt protective towards his sister.

Gary was the only one who could bully his own sister. No one else could do it.

Kendrix had implied that between him and Sylvia, Sylvia was the one in the wrong, and the situation had nothing to do with him. Gary honestly thought that it was not right. Sylvia froze in an instant.

Her face was pale as she looked at Kendrix.

Kendrix looked back at her calmly, as if he had just been making casual small talk. He did not seem to take the situation seriously at all.

Celeste looked at Sylvia worriedly. She could see clearly that Sylvia had paled at Kendrix's words.

Sylvia turned towards Kendrix and looked at him with worry.

Kendrix looked as calm as before.

"I'm telling the truth," Kendrix said. It made what he said before seemed more cruel.

Gary smiled lightly and his gaze turned even colder. "Sylvia, did you hearthat?"

Sylvia heard Gary call out to her, but she didn't look back at him. Her expression stiffened, and she looked up at Kendrix. Suddenly, she said with a smile, "Gary, it's true. I followed him here. I found out that he was going to the bookstore, so I came here to replace him."

"Sylvia." Gary's tone was much colder. He didn't like the forced smile on Sylvia's face. He felt distressed.

Sylvia had been a proud, arrogant girl. However, at this moment, it seemed that she had forced a smile and was trying to please someone else.

Gary couldn't stand the way Sylvia fawned over Kendrix.

When Gary saw Sylvia's response, anger rose from the bottom of his heart.

Sylvia had a pretty face. However, with a forced smile on it, Gary could not help his heart from aching for her.

Sylvia turned around to look at her brother. When she saw the complex emotions in Gary's eyes, she was shocked for a moment.

Then, she smiled again and said, "Gary, Mr. Trevino and I will have to get going now."

Sylvia moved to walk away.

Gary stopped her again and said, "There's no need for you to shop with Mr. Trevino anymore. Go buy the books with Celeste. If you need anything else, I'll buy them for you. I'll send you back to school as well. Let's not trouble Mr. Trevino anymore."

Kendrix glanced at Gary and smiled faintly. "That would be great."

After he said that, he left Sylvia behind and turned to enter the bookstore.

Sylvia froze on the spot. She did not move for a long while.

Watching Kendrix leave without looking back, the smile on her face stiffened as her gaze fixed on the man's retreating back.

Celeste was worried that Sylvia would burst into tears. She looked incredibly pitiful at that moment.

Looking at the little girl, Celeste felt very sympathetic. She wanted to hug Sylvia but was worried that the young girl would take it the wrong way.

Unexpectedly, a smile started to form on Sylvia's face. She suddenly looked vibrant and filled with energy. Her mood had instantly lifted.

Celeste was a little surprised at the sudden change.

Sylvia turned around and looked at Gary and Celeste. She cast a glance at Gary and shot them both a carefree smile. It was as if nothing had happened. "Gary, let's go buy books."

Gary, with knitted eyebrows and stared at Sylvia, for a long while. He thought that his sister had put on a mask fairly quickly. He turned to look at Celeste with complex emotions in his eyes.

Celeste looked at him sadly. It was all Gary's fault, after all. If he hadn't insisted on meeting the teacher, Sylvia wouldn't have been embarrassed.

Sylvia did not bring up the matter after that. She pretended as if nothing had happened, and smiled at everything. However, Gary and Celeste could tell that she still wasn't over it.

Celeste held Sylvia's hand tightly in her and comforted her, "Let's go, Sylvia. Let's go get the books you wanted."

"Alright." Sylvia nodded.

However, after that, everyone could sense that Sylvia was unhappy.

She was obviously disheartened.

After entering the bookstore, Sylvia's eyes were still searching all over the place. Gary and Celeste could tell that the young girl was obviously looking for Kendrix.

When Gary noticed that, he shot a knowing look at Celeste.

Celeste immediately understood what was going

on and nodded.

Gary left first.

Celeste and Sylvia continued to browse the bookstore.

"What book were you planning to buy?" Celeste asked Sylvia.

Sylvia did not answer her. Her eyes were still searching the bookstore.

"Sylvia?" Celeste waited for a response, but after not getting one, she had to call out to Sylvia again to catch her attention.

"What?" Sylvia suddenly came to her senses and looked at Celeste. She asked in surprise, "What is it, Celeste?"

Celeste sighed inwardly. It seemed that this girl had fallen in love for the first time.
