Norval raised his eyebrows quizzically and looked at Leah with a smile. "I don't think we can go our separate ways. That's impossible."

Leah frowned.

"You and Auntie are kin. You have legal obligations. You're a law student, so I don't think I have to explain too much." Norval seemed very nonchalant as he spoke to Leah. Leah was silent for a moment before she said, "Get your hands off the door."

"There's no need to rush." Norval laughed softly, his hands holding on to the door to prevent her from opening it.

Leah could not open the door, so she could only wait.

Norval was relaxed and he approached Leah slowly.

Leah immediately took a step back, putting some distance between them. She was obviously on guard.

Norval smiled and said, "You don't have to be so wary of me, do you?"

"Stay away from me," Leah said in a low voice. She did not want to get too close to this man.

She knew how to avoid any unnecessary scandals.

Therefore, Leah kept a safe distance from him.

Norval burst into laughter. "Leah, I can do whatever I want to do and there's nothing you can do about it."

Leah frowned and her heart skipped a beat. She stared at him vigilantly.

"Have you got the balls for that?"

"I don't." Norval yielded with a smile. "I know what this will lead to and I don't want to take any risks. I just think that we don't need to be so awkward with one another."

Leah sneered. "We don't need to interact with each other."

"Either way, you're Auntie's daughter. Nothing will change that. Plus, since she's getting older now, she needs you," Norval said.

What a joke!

Leah felt very upset and refused to accept what Norval said.

How ironic!

Her mother left her when she needed her most.

Leah was abandoned.

Now that Sieara was old, she'd come to Leah saying that she needed her.

Ha!

Leah wanted to curse.

"She raised you, not me. So the responsibility is yours," Leah stated bluntly at Norval. "Don't be too greedy, Mr. Qualls. There will be consequences."

Norval was slightly taken aback but he smiled wryly. "Are you still blaming her because of what happened in the past?"

Leah pursed her lips without answering, her eyes were filled with mockery.

Norval sighed and said, "You should know that this is actually hurting yourself. Why do you have to do this? We don't dwell on the past, we only want to make up for what happened. Live and let live, Leah!" Leah wanted to punch his obnoxious face.

She sneered, "You're ridiculous. I just want to never see you guys again, is that so hard?"

Norval nodded. "Afraid so. I'm a very annoying man."

Leah turned to leave as soon as she heard that.

However, Norval once again blocked her way. "Don't go, Leah."

"I don't have the time to waste on you. I still have some stuff to do." Leah, who had been interrupted again, was very annoyed.

Norval smiled and said, "Are you in a hurry?"

Leah paused. She seemed to have fallen into Norval's trap.

She became anxious as Norval looked at her calmly.

This wasn't the right dynamic to have.

She calmed herself down and looked at Norval. "Don't waste my time, Norval. I don't want to know why you're here in Northern City, nor do I want to know what your goal is. I just know that it's not something simple."

Norval's eyes gleamed and he seemed intrigued.

His tone was one of admiration as he spoke.

"Leah, you're a smart girl."

Leah's eyes narrowed as she gazed at him. "You do have ulterior motives."

Norval smiled in amusement, a bright gleam in his eyes. "You don't have to be so vigilant. In fact, I won't hurt you even if I did have ulterior motives."

Leah chuckled wryly. The more she wanted to cut contact with them, the more impossible it felt.

Hence, she decided to not say anything. Since Norval was determined to block her path, then she wait until he ran out of things to say.

Norval smiled when Leah stared resolutely at him.

"Let's have a meal together, shall we?" Norval asked.

"Not hungry," Leah said.

Norval smiled. "What? You lost your appetite after you saw us?"

Leah rolled her eyes at him.

Of course! Just being in their presence was nauseating.

She did not want to have anything to do with them.

Even so, they insisted on pestering her. Leah didn't have a good feeling about it.

"Why don't you just give up and do as I say? You know you can't cut ties with us. Furthermore, I'm a very stubborn man." Norval's tone was confident.

Leah frowned again. "What exactly are you trying to do?"

"Originally, I wanted to woo you. But you refused me and found someone else. I guess the only option is to be your brother."

"I don't want to be siblings." Leah's tone was mocking. "Nor do I want a romantic relationship with you."

Norval smiled and said, "I can see that. Since we can never be together, why not fix your relationship with Auntie? You're mother and daughter, there's no need to be so hostile."

Leah snorted, "Norval, you're wasting your breath." "Fine. I know that you would never agree to a meal with us anytime soon, especially after I told you that I liked you. Furthermore, your boyfriend will misunderstand us if we eat together, so let's not do it."

Leah was silent.

Norval stared deeply into her eyes as he said, "Well, I won't pester you anymore but I do have to remind you of something before I leave."

Leah's brows were crinkled. It was amazing how she had maintained her civility so far.

So far, she'd been polite enough to him.

"You have to keep your independence no matter what. Don't rely on a man," Norval said.

Leah was stunned at his words.

Norval smiled and suddenly extended his arms to embrace Leah.

The faint smell of cologne from Norval's body was foreign and Leah immediately struggled to get out of Norval's arms.

However, Norval hugged her tightly as he buried her head in Leah's neck. He whispered, "An independent woman won't ever be bullied by a man. This is all my fault, Leah. It has nothing to do with Auntie." Then, he suddenly let go of Leah.

Leah stumbled and almost fell over.

Norval smiled and said, "Alright, I'm leaving with Auntie now. Take care."
