True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 1981
"Celeste." Gary finally called out her name. That was a name that made his heart ache greatly.
He felt that he was not worthy of even saying her name anymore.
Celeste's heart lurched. She could sense how troubled Gary's tone was at that moment.
She answered with a short mumble, and a bad feeling rose from her heart.
"Celeste." Gary tried to call Celeste's name once more.
Celeste responded again, she waited for him to speak.
"I!" After he said that, Gary was at a loss for words.
"If there is anything you want to say, just say it." Celeste already had a hunch of what he wanted to say, so she quickly adjusted her mood.
"Celeste, forget it. I'm fine." Gary still did not have the courage to break up with her.
He could not bear to do that at all.
After all, Celeste had not done anything wrong. He was the one who made a mistake.
He really felt bad while facing Celeste. Back then, he was the one who looked for her and asked for getting back together, and he was the one who was going to ask for a break up again then. Even he felt ashamed of that.
"Gary," Celeste whispered, "Is there anything you want to tell me? Just say it."
"It's nothing, Celeste. I just miss you." In the end, Gary still did not break up with her.
However, Celeste could already feel the unspoken words from his tone.
Ever since she received the phone call, Celeste felt a bad feeling emerging from within. She felt that Gary and her were destined to experience a lot.
Gary's trip to Boston must surely be beyond his expectations too.
Celeste paused for a moment before she said in a soft tone, "I miss you too."
Gary did not say anything. After a long while, he spoke in an upset tone, "Celeste, I have something to do. I will talk to you later."
"Okay," Celeste could not hold back anymore. She told him, "Hurry up and do what you have to do. If there is anything you really want to say to me, you can tell me about it later."
Celeste thought that Gary wanted to talk to her about Janice and her child. At that moment, she was not expecting Gary to bring up breaking up with her.
Gary hung up the phone, and with that, he entered the ward.
Janice was lying alone on the bed. When she saw him entering the room, she smiled immediately. "Gary, you're here."
Gary stared at her coldly. There was no warmth in his eyes at all. He was like a walking corpse. He walked in and stood by the bed as he looked down at her. Janice looked up at him and forced a smile. "I've already changed my statement as promised. Lowell should be freed already, right?"
"Janice," Gary said in a deep voice.
"Yes?" Janice immediately raised her head and looked into Gary's eyes, expecting him to be gentler to her.
After all, she had just suffered a miscarriage.
A woman was most vulnerable at that point in time.
"You can be my girlfriend," Gary spoke in a low voice, "But I will never touch you."
Janice was taken aback. A tinge of pain welled up in her heart, and she looked at Gary in disbelief. "What do you mean by that?"
"We will not be a real couple," Gary said in a deep voice.
Janice took a deep breath and said, "You mean that we will just pretend to be a couple, and that we won't have any contact or be intimate at all, right?" "That's right," Gary replied expressionlessly.
"Then what's the point of having a boyfriend?" Janice retorted.
"You deserve that," Gary said in a cold way, "Besides that, I won't give you anything. This is just for show. Anyway, I will still give you what must be given." Janice hesitated, silence spread throughout the room.
The ward was awfully quiet, and only their breathings could be heard.
Janice was reluctant to accept such an ending. Her eyes turned red from grievance and pain.
However, she would not give in.
"Okay, but I have a request too," she said.
"Say it."
"You have to call Celeste in front of me, and break up with her." Janice took the opportunity to put forward some conditions.
Gary sneered again. "In front of you? Why should I?"
He had already promised to break up with Celeste, but Janice was asking for more and more.
Of course he would not agree to that.
He was already feeling very sorry towards Celeste.
How could he continue to hurt her like that?
The pain he felt was shattering, yet Janice still wanted to watch it unfold. Who the hell did she think she was?
"If you don't agree to this request, how can I know if you two have broken up or not?" Janice said, "If I don't know whether you two have broken up or not, how will I know whether my sacrifice had been worth it or not?"
"You should know that the reason you would end up making this sacrifice is because you do things unscrupulously. Having to make this sacrifice is a problem that you brought upon yourself. Have you ever thought about people like us who have been schemed by you? What about the sacrifices that we've been forced to make?" Gary spoke in a cold way. Janice's eyes turned red, tears flowed down her cheeks.
Her face instantly turned wet. "Yes, I deserve it, but I was pregnant with your child. The child was innocent. How could you be so cruel to your own child?"
"The child is meaningless to me. It was just a proof of my filthiness. If the child ceased to exist, it is actually a relief to me. Otherwise, even if the child comes into this world, he will not get a father's love. It would be better for the child to not exist at all."
Gary said those words coldly. His tone was not as harsh as before, but his face was getting colder and colder.
After that, Janice felt even more uncomfortable.
So much so that she did not even know why she made all those sacrifices.
She smiled bitterly. "Okay, I deserve it. Have you broken up with Celeste?"
"No," Gary said, "I need more time to settle this matter."
"How long do you need?"
"Two months," Gary said.
"That long?" Janice screamed again.
"That's right," Gary said. "Celeste is currently spending the Spring Festival with my mother back home. My mother is pregnant, so she can't be provoked. If I break up with her now, it will only make my mother even more upset."
"I think you just can't bear to see Celeste suffer. You don't want to leave her," Janice retorted sharply.
"That's right, I can't bear to part with Celeste," Gary rebutted without holding back. "No matter what you do, you wouldn't be able to compare to her."
"Am I that much worse than Celeste?" Janice smiled bitterly and said with a sad expression, "Gary, your words hurt."
"Haven't you known about that a long time ago? I will be more hurtful in the future," Gary said indifferently.
Janice, however, smiled. She laughed, then she said while throwing a tantrum, "Well, in this case, you can try. Let's see who would give in first." Gary glanced at her, and he turned to leave.
"Where are you going?" She shouted.
"I am going back to my apartment to sleep," Gary said in a deep voice.
"However, if you leave, who is going to take care of me?" Janice shouted, "I am your girlfriend. I had your child. Don't you care about anything at all?" "I will replace a nurse for you," Gary said coldly.
