Upon hearing this, Gary was alarmed. He felt that there was more to Celeste's words.

His eye drooped, losing all tenderness. Did this mean that Celeste had thoughts of leaving?

His heart skipped a beat as he scrutinized her.

Meanwhile, Celeste wore a calm smile.

Nothing looked strange, but he was still flustered from her earlier words.

His gut was telling him that she had intended to back out of the situation.

Was this what she wanted? Had she thought it through?

She saw the complex look in his eyes and the change of expression on his face. He looked conflicted.

Right then, she was testing what decision he would make.

Would he tell her what he was planning to do with her?

Seeing how pale he was, Celeste started to grow anxious.

It seemed that Janice's words were not baseless, and Gary wanted to break up with her.

A breakup, huh?

She forced a smile and looked down at her lap.

Although she believed he could settle this matter perfectly, it was still unsettling to think about it.

"What do you mean?" Seeming to realize the overly long pause, he said, "It'll be even more difficult without you. I feel at ease when you're with me in Boston." "Do you mean it?" Celeste looked up to meet his gaze.

Seeing the eagerness in her eyes, Gary felt more sure of his guess and he couldn't help feeling downhearted.

How should he break it to her?

Some things were too hard to bring up.

Just like a breakup.

However, it was his fault for falling into Janice's trap.

It was too late for him to regret it.

"Of course," Gary smiled and said earnestly, "Having you with me is the best assurance I could wish for."

Hearing his words, Celeste laughed.

Suddenly, she didn't feel too sad if they were forced to break up now.

At least she knew that he had given her his all during their relationship.

And it meant a lot to her.

After their meal, they went up to the deck to enjoy the winter view.

The scenery was magnificent.

Since it was winter, they didn't stay long and hurried back to the cabin.

As soon as they entered, they heard the phone in the guest room ringing incessantly.

Gary walked over to answer the call.

Yandrea's voice sounded over the phone. "I've already called you twice."

"I went on deck earlier, so I missed them." Gary lowered his voice as he spoke.

"Why not switch on your phone?" Yandrea teased. "If someone were looking for you for something urgent, it would be bad."

"What's the matter?" Gary frowned. "Aren't you supposed to handle them for me?"

"Are you kidding me? Is this how much you trust me? Aren't you afraid I will sell you out?" Yandrea continued teasing him.

"Enough." The furrow on Gary's forehead deepened, showing that he was in a bad mood now. He was irritated by Yandrea's laughter. However, Yandrea was not bothered. "What? Can't I laugh?"

"If I tell you not to, I expect you to do as I say. So stop laughing." Gary was aware that Celeste was by his side while answering the call. He turned to look at her and caught her staring at him.

Stunned, he smiled at her.

Seeing his smile, she came to her senses and went on with what she wanted to do.

Gary then said to Yandrea, "What is it? Go on."

On the other end of the line was Yandrea's laughter. "Nothing much. It's not too convenient for me to tell you now, so I've sent an email to you. You'll know when you read it."

"Is that so?" Gary's handsome face scrunched up. It seemed that Yandrea was indeed quick in his investigation to have new news already.

"By the way, Lowell has returned home. Have you guys met each other yet?" Yandrea asked.

Gary replied, "I'm on a cruise."

"Oops, I forgot." Yandrea dragged his voice, beaming with delight. "Are you trying to hide from him by going on a cruise?" "You're not wrong," Gary replied.

"If he found out about this, I'm sure he would be sad." Yandrea sighed before continuing, "He isn't that stupid, but he made a mistake and got tricked by that woman. Poor him." Gary's face darkened at the mention of Janice.

His tone turned much colder. "Enough with the suspense. You're destroying my mood."

"What situation are you in now? Do

you even have the energy to care about your mood? In fact, I don't think you'll be in any better mood from now on." It was rare that Yandrea was so blunt.

Speechless, Gary said, "I'm hanging up."

Then he did as he said.

At that moment, Celeste was reading. Seeing that she was immersed in her book, he took his laptop, turned it on, and started surfing the internet when he connected to the wifi. Only then did she raise her head to look in his direction.

He saw the email. After reading through it, he was in a heightened state. It seemed that something had happened.

After staring at the laptop for some time, he shut it off and put it down gloomily while he fiddled with the phone in his hand,

Although Celeste did not know what was going on, she knew that it must be concerning a serious matter.

"What happened?" she asked.

Gary came back to his senses and shook his head when he saw the concern in her eyes. "Nothing. Some work stuff. I'm going to make a call."

Stunned, she asked, "You're going outside?"

He was startled by the question but

he quickly responded with a smile.

Gary said, "I don't want to disturb

you. I'm afraid I would be a little

I

harsh with my words during my

conversation."

She smiled and said, "Okay. Go ahead. Don't worry about me. It just so happened that I have a thesis to read."

"Be right back." With that, he picked up his pace and left through the door. He followed the corridor and ended up somewhere far from her. Looking at his back, she thought to herself, "Was Gary afraid of me overhearing his conversation on the phone or replaceing out the truth?" His steps were heavy and unhurried.

It seemed that Gary had many thoughts going through his head.

Inside, Celeste was feeling upset.

She hesitated, thinking whether she should go out and have a look.

She was anxious and dying to know who he was talking to on the phone.
