Celeste shot him a look and wanted to tell him Florina left because of him, but she stopped herself.

"Something came up, so she had to leave earlier." Celeste immediately got into the car after she finished speaking.

Gary was shocked to hear that, and he got back into the car as well.

He never expected Florina to replace an excuse to leave.

Gary felt that Celeste seemed to be a little disappointed. After all, it was rare for Celeste to meet up with her classmates like this.

It was rare for Celeste to be able to hold a conversation with Florina too. He realized that he was the one who interrupted her gathering.

Gary turned to look at Celeste and asked, "Are you hungry? What do you want to eat? I'll take you there."

"I'm not hungry," said Celeste.

Silence blanketed the car after she said that.

Awkwardness settled over them, and Celeste knew that she killed all chances of a conversation between them.

She pursed her lips and said, "Are you hungry?"

Since Gary was hungry, it meant he probably hadn't eaten breakfast yet.

"A little." Gary felt much better when he realized that Celeste still cared about him.

With a pleading voice, he asked, "Let's replace somewhere to eat, hmm?"

Celeste nodded and said, "Okay, if you are hungry, we will go eat."

Well, it seemed that Celeste still cared about him.

Gary felt a whisper of life return to his dying soul.

He immediately took Celeste to a quiet place for a meal.

Celeste was calm and placid towards him, without any trace of intimacy nor detest.

The two of them got along quite peacefully, and the atmosphere during their meal was pleasant. Celeste was very quiet. She would only answer if Gary took the initiative to ask her something. Celeste did not initiate any conversation like how she did before.

"I had no idea you were on such good terms with Florina. Have you been in touch all these years?"

Celeste nodded and said, "Yeah, we have. We aren't the closest, but we kept in touch. She's our classmate, and she left her contact information in the yearbook." "You two seemed chatty earlier. What did you talk about?" Gary asked.

Celeste paused, thinking of what Florina told her. It was Florina's private affairs, so it wasn't her place to tell Gary about it.

She shook her head and said, "Just a little bit of everything. We had a lot of catching up to do."

The answer was vague, piquing Gary's curiosity.

"Can't you tell me what you two were talking about?" Gary was direct.

Celeste glanced at him and said, "We talked about her stuff, and no, I can't tell you."

"Was it about Florina?" Gary frowned. "Is she treating you like a trash dump for her feelings?"

Celeste was caught off guard by his words, and she shook her head. "Stop asking, if I could tell you, I already would have."

Gary understood that some things couldn't be revealed after Celeste's lecture.

He averted his gaze and asked, "Did you talk about us?"

Suddenly, a slight blush revealed itself on Celeste's face and stained her cheeks red. The blush crept from the tips of her ears to her neck.

Gary immediately understood that Celeste had indeed talked about them.

"Looks like you did. You can tell me about that, right?" Gary said, seemingly becoming more excited.

Celeste replied, "I didn't tell her much, really. Florina wishes us well."

"What did you say then?" Gary asked, his tone anxious.

Celeste felt a little embarrassed.

"Can we ever get back together?" Gary asked, nervously waiting for the answer. He hadn't been more nervous in his entire life.

He acted as if he were a prisoner waiting for his sentence even though the judge had already read it out.

Alas, Gary still carried some hope in his chest.

Perhaps he would have a different result this time around?

Celeste shifted her gaze away from him.

"Gary, let's not talk about this, okay?" She finally spoke in an imploring tone.

She struggled a lot internally.

Honestly, she did not know what to do.

Gary's eyes, which were initially filled with a glint of hope, dimmed.

He knew that he shouldn't hold on to his delusion, much less force it upon Celeste.

Gary nodded with a self-deprecating smile. "That's right, I shouldn't have brought this up again. It's my fault."

Words left their shared space as the two had nothing else to say to one another.

Gary could not replace a topic to break the tense silence.

Silence was the easier route compared to making small talk.

The two avoided speaking to one another, and the meal quickly became boring.

Once they were done eating, Celeste said, "Let's just go home."

"How about we watch a movie?" Gary asked.

Celeste was dumbfounded. A movie?

They had just gone to the cinemas, and he was suggesting that they go again?

"Nah. We can just watch a movie on our phones," Celeste replied.

"It's not the same as watching it on the big screen," Gary said.

Well, at least the new topic ended their silence.

"Let's go watch a movie. It's still early." Gary glanced at his watch to replace that it was only one in the afternoon. "We can watch a movie, and it'll end around three. You still have time to take a nap."

Celeste was left with no choice but to do as suggested. There was no changing Gary's mind when he decided on something.

"Okay." She did not insist on refusing him.

They drove over to the cinema after they left the restaurant.

Gary bought two tickets, and Celeste found out later on that he had gotten them a private room.

The room wasn't very big; approximately fifty to sixty square meters wide. They were the only two in the room.

The movie was a Hollywood blockbuster about a mutant man trying to learn of his origins with his love interest in tow.

Celeste was not interested in this

film genre. She didn't expect Gary to watch this kind of film with her, bCeleste was not interested in this film genre. Celeste kept her eyes on the screen as the movie played.

Meanwhile, Gary sat next to her.

The lights were dim, and it set the mood. Gary sat in a very casual position as he took off his shoes and extended his legs onto the front seat.

He loomed between the two rows.

Celeste glanced at him.

Perhaps her glance reminded Gary of something as he retracted his legs and put on his shoes.

Celeste didn't say anything, but she found Gary's actions rather strange.

He was getting much more obedient.

All it took was a glance from her for him to behave himself.

However, Gary's actions made her feel rather upset. The more he tried to please her, the more uncomfortable she felt.

This was because it was a sign of his guilt.

Gary would not show weakness unless he felt guilty.

Celeste remained silent as the movie kept playing. Then, Gary's phone rang. He picked it up in an

instant.

"Master Gary, everything is in place and we await your orders," the voice on the other end said.

"Alright, wait for my signal," Gary replied.

He had placed several of his men to intercept Janice at the airport.

Gary didn't say much else as he hung up the phone because Celeste was right next to him.

Since Celeste wasn't able to hear the entirety of the call, she had no idea that Janice was back in Northern City.

She watched the movie silently. Frankly, it didn't interest her all that much.

Alas, it was much too quiet, and Celeste was in a dour mood. Hence, she decided to watch the movie to distract herself, but she unwittingly became absorbed in it.

She was enraptured by the male lead's odd experience, and she sympathized with him.

The male lead was a mutant, so his body would occasionally radiate high levels of energy.

That was why he was kept under close surveillance.

The scientists in the show were hell-bent on capturing him for research.

Meanwhile, the female lead tried her best to protect him, but her efforts were in vain.

The two found love in a hopeless place.

It seemed they did not stand a chance.

In the end, the male lead was caught

and the female lead was tricked by her mother when she went to save him. It turned out that the female lead's mother was the villain, and she had given the male lead some sort of drug that had caused him to mutate.

The movie ended with the male lead getting captured and the female lead seriously injured.

At the end of it all, the two did not end up together.

Celeste couldn't help but cry as she watched the movie scenes play out.

Gary didn't pay much attention to the movie at all. He could guess the ending from the start because he had watched plenty of these movies in the past.

Furthermore, he was a smart man, and he was very familiar with films like this.

As soon as he turned his head, he saw the tears trickling down Celeste's face. Shocked, he asked, "Celeste, are you okay?"

Meanwhile, Celeste shed even more tears as she was upset that the two lovers could not be together.

It was just too emotional for her.

She shook her head before she turned her face away and said, "I'm fine."

Gary reached out and turned Celeste back to face him. His heart ached when he saw Celeste crying even harder.
