True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 2080
Lowell only understood half of what was going on after they spoke on the phone, so he asked Heinz, "Did Janice ask these reporters to come here?"
"If not her, who would it be?" Gary asked in an agitated tone.
Sure enough, Lowell's expression changed drastically.
He looked at Gary apologetically and said, "I'll take responsibility for whatever happens later during the press conference."
Gary glanced at him and said, "What else can she say except that she's my girlfriend in front of the press? Being my girlfriend elevates her status immediately. If you tell everyone that Janice is your girlfriend, then it would be even worse as everyone would think that we're fighting over a gid."
That possibility existed, of course.
The media would just blow it out of proportion.
"Celeste is your girlfriend," Lowell replied.
"Lowell, you probably don't know this, but Celeste has left our house," Heinz said.
"Huh?" Lowell was shocked, and he gave his brother a quizzical look. "Why did Celeste leave? Does she know about...?"
As he spoke, his gaze turned towards Gary, hoping to receive a solid answer.
Gary smiled wryly and said, "Celeste knew about it a long time ago. She wanted to pretend like nothing was wrong between us, but I felt unhappy at this farce we were keeping up. I said a few unkind things, and Celeste left the very next day."
The guilt in Lowell's eyes intensified.
It was all his fault.
If he hadn't introduced Janice to Gary, this wouldn't have happened.
At the end of the day, he was the culprit.
He lowered his head in frustration. "I'm really sorry."
"Can you stop apologizing?" Gary reprimanded in a low voice.
Heinz had no choice but to cut in. "Gary, Celeste's departure had nothing to do with Lowell. She left because you guys didn't trust one another enough."
Gary frowned but did not refute his father.
It was wrong for him to be angry at Lowell, but he was too anxious to be rational.
Lowell shook his head. "No, I'm to blame for this. Gary wouldn't have taken extra care of Janice if it wasn't for me, so it's all my fault."
"The way Janice goes to extremes for love is not normal, so it's no one! s fault. After all, no one wanted it to turn out this way." Heinz comforted Lowell. "There's no need to be so guilty either. The main thing now is how do we stop Janice's plan?"
"We'll do as you said." Lowell raised his head and glanced at both Heinz and Gary. "I'll come forward and say that Janice is my girlfriend. That'll help Gary clear his misunderstanding with Celeste."
"It won't work." Gary shook his head solemnly. "I thought of this before, and it seemed like a good idea at first. However, I don't think it's a good plan anymore. Nothing we say will work."
"You have to think this through, Gary. If Lowell doesn't do this, the media might say that Janice is your girlfriend and that you've abandoned her." Heinz reminded Gary carefully. "There's still no need for Lowell to say that Janice is his girlfriend. The truth won't work, nor will a lie."
"Do you have any evidence to clear your name?" Heinz felt that it was all a little strange. Gary had agreed to his plan earlier but changed his mind in such a short time. Thus, suspicion arose in his mind. Gary shook his head. "I don't have proof. I just need to prove that I've never slept with Janice."
"Then what do you need me to do?" Lowell was very concerned. "Do you know where Celeste is, Gary? We should replace her and tell everyone that Celeste is your girlfriend. Grace and Celeste have been slandered enough."
"If Janice says that she's my girlfriend now, the media won't believe it."
Heinz's brow furrowed. "I'm just afraid that she won't say that she's your girlfriend. Instead, she'll say that she's pregnant with your child."
Gary nodded. "I feel like that way too. I feel like she wants to push me to the brink and make me into the bad guy. Most importantly, she wants Celeste and I to be completely estranged."
Heinz frowned.
Lowell nodded, agreeing to Gary's thoughts. "This sounds like something Janice would do, which is to separate you from Celeste first."
Gary was absorbed in his thoughts for a moment before he said to Lowell, "Come to the press conference with me and follow my lead." "Alright." Lowell nodded.
"Come here and take a look at this." Gary turned on the computer again and handed the hard drive to Lowell. "Take a look at what's on the hard drive, and I'll draft up a script for you. Just follow what I write."
"Sure." Lowell leafed through the information and the frown on his face disappeared. "Looks like you're very well prepared. We have nothing to worry about."
"Have you found evidence?" Heinz asked them.
Lowell nodded. "Although it's not
enough to prove that Gary did not et
sleep with her, it's still enough to prove that Janice's pregnancy was not a conventional one."
"What information? Let me have a look." Heinz came over.
Lowell immediately looked at Gary and asked silently if he could show it to Heinz.
Gary waved his hand impatiently. "If he wants to look, let him."
Lowell then handed the computer to Heinz. Heinz looked at it carefully and immediately smiled.
"Nice one, Gary. It's not easy for you
Gary did not reply.
He was worried about what Celeste was thinking. She must have been devastated to leave so suddenly.
Meanwhile, the secretary came in and said, "President, the press is waiting for you as they want to interview you."
"They can wait," Heinz immediately replied.
The secretary nodded and said, "Of course."
"The press conference will be held at 9 o'clock tonight," Heinz said.
Gary glanced at his watch. It was still five o'clock in the afternoon.
Nine o'clock was four hours later.
The secretary nodded respectfully. "I'll get right to it. However, are you sure you want them to wait four hours?"
"Yes," Heinz replied.
It was done on purpose.
Firstly, he wanted to teach those reporters a lesson. Even if they wanted to interview him, they needed to play by the Jones Estate's rules. Furthermore, the kicker was that he wanted Janice to know how powerful he was.
The reason why the press was here was not because of Janice, but because of the Jones Estate.
Janice was way out of her league on this one.
"Four hours isn't teaching them a lesson, you're just testing my patience." Gary glanced at his father. "You can continue searching for information and collecting evidence for these four hours," Heinz said.
Gary met Lowell's gaze and asked, "What about you? Do you think this will work?"
Lowell nodded and said, "I think it's
feasible. We can't just react to whatever Janice is doing. We need to mess up her plans and trip her up.
Once that happens, the holes in her story will appear.
"Moreover, the reporters are sharks. They will exaggerate, but they won't blindly make up stories."
"Lowell's right." Heinz nodded and gave a signal to the secretary before she left.
