It dawned on Jensen that there was something wrong with Alice.

"I'm fine, I'm really okay," Alice smiled and continued softly, "Jensen, it's not easy for you to be an officer."

"It's not that bad." As he spoke, his heart skipped a beat and he felt very miserable. It was a sharp premonition as an officer.

"Have you ever considered other professions?" Alice continued to ask, "Do you have to be an officer?"

"It's my dream!" Jensen explained, "I like my job and I want to serve the public."

Alice could no longer speak.

Suddenly, no words would come out. That was Jensen's dream and it was not his fault.

However, she was frightened.

She was scared that those men would hurt her family. She was afraid that Grace and Little Gary would be dragged into it. She could not care less if she was on her own. She could be braver if she had no one she cared about.

However, Alice loved Grace and Grace's son.

She was at a loss.

She was afraid that someone would harm her sister and Little Gary.

Jensen was uneasy when he could not hear Alice's voice. His breathing became uneven and his heart skipped a beat.

Jensen had a bad feeling. "Alice?"

"Hmm, it's nothing." Her voice was relaxed as she held onto her mobile phone. She said, "I'm at the entrance of the sports ground. It's near the entrance to the tennis courts and soccer fields. Come in and look for me when you get here. Drive safe."

"Well, okay!" Jensen added, "Don't hang up, I want to hear your voice."

"Okay!" Alice replied softly, "Promise me that you'll drive safely."

"Okay!" Jensen answered.

They chatted but there was a hint of sadness in their tones.

Jensen drove his car into the campus and he got out of the car. He dashed to the entrance of the sports ground.

He spotted a small figure sitting at the front row of the bleachers just beside the street lamp.

Jensen was still holding his mobile phone. His heart was pounding against his chest. He breathed a sigh of relief when he spotted Alice sitting at the bleacher.

"I spotted you," Jensen said.

"I can see you too." Alice raised her eyes and looked towards the entrance.

Jensen's tall figure strode to her. He was holding his mobile phone to his ear like Alice.

"Alice, I'm scared," he whispered when he was over ten meters away from her.

"What are you afraid of?" she asked.

"I have a bad premonition." Jensen's voice was bitter. "I'm afraid that I'll hear something horrible when I get to you."

Alice paused and sighed internally. It turned out that he had a hunch too.

In truth, Alice wanted to break up with Jensen.

She no longer wanted to be an officer's girlfriend.

However, Alice stared at Jensen miserably when she heard his sorrowful voice. He stopped moving when he was over ten meters away from her.

Alice did not speak. She hung up and kept her mobile phone in her pocket.

She was very depressed too.

Jensen realized that Alice hung up the call. He stowed away his mobile phone before making his way to Alice swiftly.

Shortly after, he was in front of her.

Alice's long hair hung down over her face. She raised her head slowly and her face was vague under the dim light. However, Jensen's eyes were sharp.

He had years of experience as an officer and he soon noticed the bruises on Alice's face.

Jensen knelt down in front of her and reached out to hold her chin.

Alice immediately grabbed his hand and tried to stop him from looking at her face.

However, Jensen spotted it.

Her chin was bruised and her cheeks were red and bloated. Her cheeks were asymmetrical but nonetheless, they were very swollen.

Jensen narrowed his eyes and stared at her in shock. He asked shakily, "What happened? Who hit you?"

Jensen could guess what happened but he wanted to hear it from Alice.

"Jensen." Alice held his hands and shook her head gently. She lied, "No one hit me. I accidentally fell and injured myself."

Alice spotted Jensen's sad and sympathetic gaze.

The whole afternoon, she thought about what she should say but she could not bring herself to speak.

Jensen was innocent.

Jensen's eyes narrowed again and he seemed to be trying to hold himself back.

The lights on the sports ground were dim. However, the obvious palm prints on Alice's swollen face and the man-made bruises on her chin gave away what happened to her. She was assaulted.

These wounds were inflicted by someone else.

It had something to do with him.

Jensen lifted up her long hair. He noticed that her whole face was red and swollen with palm prints.

Her wounds made him tremble violently. The obvious palm prints pained him.

"Does it hurt?" Jensen's hands shivered uncontrollably. He caressed her face. It was so painful to watch that Jensen's voice was hoarse.

Alice pulled Jensen's hand away and said, "It's okay, it doesn't hurt."

His heart was throbbing.

How could it not hurt?

Alice's lips twitched and she whispered, "It really doesn't hurt. You don't have to worry about me."

"Silly girl!" Jensen held Alice in his arms.

Jensen's chest heaved and his heart was aching.

Alice leaned her head against Jensen's chest and listened to his heartbeat. She was heartbroken.

Alice could feel pain, remorse and guilt from him. She could even tell that he was trying to be very careful. Even when Jensen hugged her, she noticed that he was very gentle to avoid hurting her face again. "Alice..." Jensen called her name bitterly.

She could hear his guilt from his voice.

Jensen was smart.

Alice sighed, "Jensen, let's..."

Before Alice could finish her words, Jensen interrupted her. "Let's go home."

Alice parted her lips but he cut her off before she could say 'break up'.

Jensen was breathing rapidly.

"Let's go home and I'll put some ice on your wounds!" Jensen said softly.

"Jensen," Alice tried to speak, "I have something to tell you."

"What is it? Let's go back and talk about it." He was afraid that she would break up with him.

Jensen was certain that she was going to break up with him.

Alice glanced at the night sky. She could not go back home because she was afraid that Grace would be worried.

Finally, she nodded. "Alright, let's talk about it when we get back."

Alice stood up.

As soon as she raised her head, she spotted Jensen frowning. His eyes were full of sorrow and concern.

"I'll call my sister." Alice could not bear to stare at the pain in his eyes and changed the subject.

Jensen took the shopping bags from the ground and held Alice's hand as she called her sister.

"Sister, I'm with Jensen. We are going back now, so don't worry."

Grace felt a little relieved. "Jensen is with you?"

"Yes, Jensen, you should talk to my sister." Alice handed the phone to Jensen.

Jensen paused for a moment and said over the phone, "Grace, it's me. Alice is with me, so don't worry."
