After listening to Queenie's words, Heinz said, "Chief Stone, although I don't know why you've suddenly changed your mind and said so, I'll be very thankful if you could stand up and clarify it." "You don't have to feel thankful," Queenie quickly returned. "Speaking of which, I still feel apologetic towards you. If we had canceled Jodie's registration earlier, none of these things would have happened. It was all our fault."

Heinz didn't try to comfort her. He was very calm.

She then continued, "Heinz, I'm sorry, I've wronged both you and Grace. We were all too self-righteous and overconfident."

"Chief Stone, save it. If you want to hold a press conference, I can ask Lester to arrange it. We'll start at ten o'clock tomorrow morning. What do you think?"

"Okay," Queenie agreed. "Heinz, I'll try my best to persuade Nathan to stand up and clarify it. This way, it will be more effective."

Heinz was stunned. This time, he was sure that she really wanted to help them.

"Alright."

"It's just that I don't know if Nathan will cooperate. My cousin, Pearlyn, has always spoiled her daughter with love. You know how much they dote on her. I don't know what the ending will be, but I will try my best.'1

"Do your part and we'll let fate decide." He didn't force anything on the situation.

"Then let's call it a day." After that, she quickly hung up the phone.

Heinz immediately called someone to protect Queenie. "Send someone to follow Queenie, protect her, observe her every move and be ready to report at any time." "Yes, sir!"

Queenie soon returned to the hospital.

However, her face was black and blue, her hair was messy and there was blood at the corner of her lips. Nathan and Pearlyn, who had stayed in the ward, were stunned when they saw her. When they saw her appearance, Pearlyn immediately asked in surprise, "What happened to you?"

Queenie replied, "I was beaten by your daughter."

Nathan was shocked, and his hands clenched into fists.

"Queenie, did you say that it was Jodie who did this to you?"

She nodded. "Yes, she said that I've meddled in other people's business and it's true that I really did that. For her, I even shamelessly asked Heinz to break up with Grace. Now that I think about it, I really shouldn't have done that. How could I have been so shameless?"

Nathan looked up at the ceiling blankly. He seemed to have realized something.

Pearlyn still couldn't believe it. "Look at Jodie, how could she have changed so much? She doesn't even care about her own father. Has she lost her mind?"

"Pearlyn, can't you tell?" Queenie returned. "She is now possessed. Indeed, she doesn't care about whether her biological father is alive or dead. You guys were worried about her and you've risked your lives for her, but she is unmoved by it."

"She's becoming crueler." Pearlyn stared at the hospital bedsheet in a daze, her eyes filled with frustration. "But she's my only daughter, and she only just came back. She crossed the line, but she is still my only daughter."

Upon hearing that, Queenie knew that Pearlyn did not want to hold Jodie accountable for

her wrongdoings.

She frowned as she pointed to her face and said to Pearlyn, "Look at my face and my clothes. She has kicked me hard on my belly. Do you know how hard that kick was? I haven't even recovered from it yet." Pearlyn opened her eyes wide and looked at Queenie in front of her. The palm print on her face was very clear, and her face was terribly swollen.

However, she still couldn't believe that her daughter would do such a thing. She hesitated for a moment before asking, "Queenie, did Jodie really hurt you?"

"Pearlyn!" Queenie gazed at her helplessly. "Do you think that I am the kind of person who would simply accuse Jodie? Furthermore, she is my niece. If she hadn't gone too far, why would I have gone to your house? You asked me to take care of her, right?"

"Just now, when Nathan was being resuscitated, you asked me to go check up on her. I followed your orders and went."

"But look at me now. Look at what she's done."

Queenie pointed at her own face and continued, "I'm not only furious because I got scolded by her at my age, but I was even beaten up by her."

"To be honest, if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have cared about her. It has nothing to do with me. All these years, I saw how lonely the both of you were after you lost your child, so I decided to intervene time afte time."

"But think about it, what benefits did I receive?"

"In the past few years, not only did I not get anything out of it, I've created so much trouble for myself."

"Heinz also thinks that I am a busybody. Now, Jodie has also beaten me up for being nosy. I feel so frustrated."

Queenie finished her words in one breath.

After listening to her words, Pearlyn felt very dejected as well. "Queenie, over the years, Jodie's father and I both know that you've helped us take care of a lot of things and dealt with many of our problems. We appreciate everything that you've done for us."

"So?" Queenie knew what her cousin meant. "So you just want me to get beaten up for nothing?"

Pearlyn's face froze and she looked a little embarrassed. Then she continued, "She's back now and she's alive. It's enough for us."

"Pearlyn, are you still trying to spoil her?" Queenie's eyes widened in disbelief.

"Queenie, we have no choice," Pearlyn replied dejectedly. "I know that Jodie is a bad person. I know everything, but I didn't expect her to be so stubborn now."

"Pearlyn, come to your senses. Stop spoiling her by letting her off easy like this." Queenie was exasperated. "She doesn't even care about her father so what else would she care about?'

"Wake up. If this goes on, she wouldn't care about you guys even if the both of you are lying in the hospital."

"But after all, she's my daughter." Pearlyn looked embarrassed, but she still couldn't bear to see Jodie in such a situation.

"The truth is right in front of us. Why would she care about us? I'm now lying in a hospital and I almost died. She wouldn't care." Nathan suddenly said, "Queenie, I already know that Jodie will never care about us in the future. It doesn't matter if she's alive or dead."

"So, are you guys clear about what we should do now?"

"Queenie, just tell us." Pearlyn's brain was about to explode. She rubbed her head and said, "I don't know what to do now. What do you want us to do? Just tell us."

"Pearlyn, Nathan." Queenie gazed at the both of them. "Let me be honest with you too. I won't let Jodie off easy this time."
