Grace frowned as worry swirled in her heart.

Heinz noticed the emotions in her eyes.

He sighed inwardly. After all, she was a kind-hearted woman.

Her concern for her mother couldn't be concealed.

"Go in and have a look." Heinz suggested. "Go with Alice."

Right now, they couldn't afford to care about anything else.

From the looks of it, Alice and Grace both had different feelings for Candace.

Alice pursed her lips and said in frustration, "I even hit her last night."

Thinking of how arrogant she was, Alice was infuriated. However, in the next moment, she felt remorseful for what she had done.

Grace held her hand and found that it was sweaty.

It was the same for herself.

Her palms were very sweaty.

It was obvious that they were worried about the woman inside.

"Alice, go in with your sister. No matter what you do, I will be by your side. I will always support you, and we will wait for you here." Jensen assured.

Alice looked at Jensen and nodded.

Heinz also looked at Grace and said softly, "Don't forget, we have to take her for an examination tonight."

"Okay."

She then entered the room with Alice.

The door to the room swung open.

The woman on the bed froze as she turned to the door without thinking.

Grace gazed at Candace.

Her face was covered by strands of her hair, and it was pale and sallow.

After removing her makeup, she appeared very old, and her skin was also in poor condition. It was rough and wrinkled. Her condition was worrisome. When Candace saw the two of them, panic flashed across her eyes.

It only lasted for a moment.

Candace gazed at Grace as she sneered. "Huh, Miss Smith who has been reluctant to meet me, has finally arrived."

Her tone was full of sarcasm.

Grace's heart pounded when she heard that. She pursed her lips as she looked at her mother.

She had mixed feelings as she stared at Candace in silence.

Alice stood behind her. She remained in silence along with Grace.

Candace didn't even look at Alice. Instead, she stared at Grace as she continued scornfully. "Why won't you talk? Shouldn't you be scolding or beating me?"

Alice's heart skipped a beat, and she lowered her head.

Candace then scolded. "Alice, why are you bowing?"

Alice felt a stab in her heart. She raised her head, and looked at Candace stubbornly with worry in her eyes.

Alice then replied in a low voice, "I was the one who hit you. It had nothing to do with my sister. If you want to mock or curse someone, direct your insults at me. Don't come for my sister." "Huh!" Candace snorted. "She is the one who had brought you up this way. Who else will I scold if not your sister?"

Alice scowled and continued to defend her sister. "Grace was the one who helped you, and yet you still say these words to her. Do you even have a conscience? Now I really don't regret hitting you at all." Candace deserved that slap.

"If you don't regret it, then why are you arguing with me? Alice, you are such a defiant girl. I am your mother. How dare you hit me?" Candace immediately called attention to her role as a mother. Alice turned away, her eyes filled with regret and sorrow.

After knowing that Candace might have cancer, she had calmed down a lot. Prior to this, she even had thoughts of ending Candace's life. However, she didn't want to do that now. Humans were strange animals.

There was only sorrow left in her heart as Alice remarked. "You're the one who should feel guilty, because you were the irresponsible one to begin with. Everything else happened after that. Now that things have come to this, it was all because you deserved it."

As Candace stared at Alice, mixed feelings flashed across her eyes. "No matter how much you hate me, the fact that I am your mother can't be changed."

Alice's emotions were written all over her face. Candace's attitude had made that even more obvious.

There was concern in her eyes. However, she was reluctant to compromise with Candace.

Candace quickly withdrew her gaze from Alice, and turned her attention to Grace. "Grace, Heinz is not a suitable match for you. I am being sincere, if you..."

Before she could finish her words, Grace quickly cut her off. "Heinz and I got married today. So did Alice and Jensen. We're married now. It's not up to anyone else but us to decide whether we're a match for each other. We decide our own lives."

Candace paused, and she narrowed her eyes. The way she looked at Grace felt like she was looking at a stranger. "Did you do it because of me? Did my presence hasten the process of you two getting married?"

"Although I don't want to admit it, you're right. It's true that your arrival has sped up my decision to marry Heinz. This is the only way I will stop you from doing whatever you're doing," Grace replied calmly. Candace then commented in disgust, "You really are impulsive. When a woman acts on impulse, it means that she's brainless. Just look at how he ended up with Jodie. Do you still think that you are better than Jodie?"

Grace pursed her lips as she answered confidently. "I'm better than Jodie in every aspect. If you compare me with some other women, maybe I'll be no match to them. But Jodie? That's a piece of cake." Jodie was a bad person.

Candace probably didn't expect Grace to say that. She was taken aback by Grace's firm words.

She frowned as she questioned coldly. "What if you and Heinz get divorced in the future?"

"You didn't divorce my father, but you still didn't get along well with him either. After you left, he died of an illness. You were husband and wife. How could you have left him like that for your own sake? Well, then prove to us you live a happy life. Moreover, why didn't you raise Lowell after he was born? Didn't you give birth to Lowell with Stephen? Why didn't you raise him yourself?" Grace retorted.

"You do it then," Candace replied without a trace of guilt in her eyes. "You seem like you enjoyed raising Alice. You can continue doing so for Lowell. Isn't this just perfect? I even brought him over to you. You can be satisfied now."

Alice's gaze sharpened as she snapped, "How could you do this? Are you addicted to bullying Grace?"

"I gave birth to you, and you owe me. Shouldn't you be helping me?" Candace sneered as a cold smile was carved on her lips.

Grace then asked calmly, "Do you know that you're about to die?"

Candace paused, and then burst out laughing. "What? How dare you curse me?"
