True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 825
It was a heart wrenching moment for Grace as she heard her mother's groans.
She felt that it was unfair if God's punishment for a person didn't come in time, but when it did, it was torture.
What was worse was that she could not take it as the person who was suffering was her mother.
Even though the mother-daughter relationship did not last a long time, this woman was still pregnant with her for ten months before giving birth to her.
Grace just couldn't bear to see her in such pain. Tears pooled in her eyes and she looked at Heinz.
He held onto her hand tightly, as though telling her that she should let her mother have some dignity in her final moments.
She knew that he was right.
She gently turned around and stood by the door. She lowered her head slightly and a tear fell to the ground.
She heard the sound of footsteps when the doctors and the nurses rushed over quickly. They pushed the door open together and went into the ward.
Grace stood at the door. She was baffled and looked at Heinz again.
He felt distressed. He shook his head at her and motioned for her not to go in.
She pursed her lips and pulled her hand from Heinz's grip gently. She squatted on the ground, hugged herself with her hands, buried her face in her knees, and did not move for a long time.
Alice and Lowell looked at her carefully with their reddened eyes, but no one said anything.
They could hear urgent voices.
The doctor said apprehensively, "Oh, no! The ascites are back again. How is it back since we had just drained it? Now, it should be because the liver has probably stopped working. We have to make another drainage as soon as possible."
Candace shouted anxiously, "Doctor, it hurts! Give me an analgesic injection, I can't take it anymore!"
Listening to the bustle inside, nobody said a word. Grace's shoulders trembled slightly and she squatted on the ground and stayed there.
Heinz also squatted down in front of her. Without saying a word, he reached out and tenderly put his hand on her shoulder.
She was stunned and still did not look up. She was afraid that someone would see her crying.
She used to think that she would never shed a tear for her mother in her life, but when the daunting reality came, tears came easily.
She found out that she actually had affection and attachment to her mother and she could even feel her pain.
She realized that she still loved her mother. Although she used to hate her, at the moment, she felt that she still loved her.
She wished that her mother was not ill.
The doctor had been inside for more than an hour and she had also been squatting on the ground for that period of time. Heinz accompanied her in the same position.
Alice and Lowell stood beside them. When they heard the sound of the emergency treatment from inside, their eyes were red and they said nothing.
It was not until a long time later that the doctor came out of the ward, the sound of opening the door surprised Grace and she stood up.
Staggering, she almost could not stand firmly.
She had been squatting for too long and her feet were numb.
Heinz held her up, and they stood before the doctor.
The doctor looked tired and said, "Mr. Jones, Madam Smith, you have to be mentally prepared. Madam Lowe's condition is getting worse. She might not be able to last two months." Grace's mind went blank instantly after she heard that.
Not even two more months?
She looked at the doctor with the pleading eyes. She wanted to say something, but she could not.
The doctor saw her reddened eyes. Perhaps because he had seen too many similar situations, he was not emotional. He just comforted her and said, "Just be mentally prepared. The patient knows her own situation. It seems as though she was prepared."
"Doctor, in any case, please try your best to save her at all costs."
The doctor replied, "Of course, we will do our best."
"Can I go in and have a look?" Grace asked softly.
The doctor was in a difficult position and he said, "Madam Smith, your mother's current situation can't bear any stimulation. I hope you all can give her a restful space and not disturb her. Unless she agrees, she may really not be able to hold on."
Grace was surprised and nodded with a pale face. "We won't disturb her. Let's let her rest quietly."
"She also has a request to have a moment of peace. More importantly, she wants to leave the hospital after she is stable."
Grace said subconsciously, "No, she can't. She can't go out anymore."
The doctor looked at her and said, "The patient said that she doesn't want to die in the hospital. She hopes that she can go to the place which she chooses." Grace was stunned.
She seemed to be at a loss and did not know what to say.
Heinz said, "We shall decide it according to the doctor's diagnosis and her physical condition. We don't need to rush."
The doctor nodded and said, "Alright, I understand what you mean, Mr. Jones. In that case, you can leave first."
Grace nodded quickly and said, "Okay, I'll go."
She quickly turned around and left quickly.
Heinz, who was behind her, looked at her helpless expression and felt sorry for her.
He quickly followed her.
He called for her, "Grace."
"Heinz, let me be alone for a while. I want to be alone for a while." Without looking back, she said and walked to the path outside the hospital.
He followed her from a distance. He looked at her and didn't say anything for a while.
She sat down on a bench in the hospital garden and lowered her head.
Heinz looked at her and felt sad. He walked over and sat down next to her.
Alice and Lowell were waiting for them at the entrance of the hospital. No one spoke and they were all helpless and silent.
Grace said softly, "Heinz, she's dying."
He replied, "I know. I heard everything."
She murmured in a low voice, "What should I do? I don't know what to do."
His phone rang suddenly.
He frowned and picked it up.
It was his father.
He picked up the phone and asked flatly, "What is it?"
His father said, "I'm at the hospital's cafeteria. Come and have a seat. Let's meet. I have something to tell you."
Heinz furrowed his brow and said coldly, "I have nothing to say."
"I know you're worried about your mother-in-law."
He refused unceremoniously, "Since you know our current situation, please don't bother us. I don't want to see you."
His father repeated his request. "Let's meet. I have something important to tell you."
Heinz sneered and said, "You don't deserve to make such an unreasonable request to me."
