True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 870
"What kind of reason is this? You didn't know that you were going to die soon and gave birth to a child. Don't you know that you are already old?" Timothy couldn't help but retort.
"I'm still a year younger than you." Candace said softly, "I gave birth to the child when I was a little past 40 years old. I wasn't too old."
He was so infuriated by her and couldn't say a word. He could only look at her blankly, and couldn't help but snort. "A child in your forties is also late. Are you addicted to giving birth to children?"
She shook her head and said, "It's not that I'm addicted to having children, but I have never had a son. I only had daughters with you and Anderson, and I just wanted to try to get a son. Look at me, I have a son and daughters now, and my life is good."
"Good?" He sneered. "I really don't see the goodness in it."
"It's so good that I'm about to die. Going to heaven. Isn't it beautiful?"
She spoke with a smile, but Timothy could hear and sense the bitter self-mockery in her tone. He looked away and stared at the mountains in the distance. He couldn't see anything clearly in the darkness, but could only see a hazy shadow.
He said coldly, "How do you know you will go to heaven after death? Maybe you will go to hell."
"Timothy, are you not going to bless me? You still hate me. You would rather that I go to hell than to let me go to heaven, don't you?" She said, tilting her head and looking at him with a smile. "It seems that you still resent me. I have completely wronged you. In fact, everything turns to dust at the end of life. The grudge between us can't end?"
"If I hadn't left you back then, you wouldn't have gotten a wife, would you? You even have two sons with her. A chance encounter in this life would naturally lead to another. There are always two sides to a coin. If you miss this scenery, there will naturally be another one."
He pursed his lips and gritted his teeth. The sides of his temples were pulsating.
He was trying to hold it all in, but the anger in his entire chest was boiling.
Finally, he chided in a deep voice, "So your apology and regret just now were just a show. You asked me to bring you here, but you didn't hesitate to fool me. Your apology and regret were not sincere. You are just using me, aren't you?"
"Uh!" She was stunned and looked at Timothy as if she didn't know him. Suddenly, she smiled and said, "Why are you so narrowminded? Do you think that when a person is dying, they would make such a joke?"
"What could I do to make use of you? I am a proud person. How could I use you in the end?"
"I could have taken a taxi to replace the person I needed after I left the hospital, but I was waiting for you, Timothy."
"Am I not worthy of your trust for just once? Even when I'm on the verge of dying, I know I made a mistake during my life, so I am apologizing to you. Do you doubt my sincerity?"
"Do you have sincerity? You have never been a sincere person in your life. You are an arrogant person. If you are sincere, why did you resort to using our daughter, Grace?"
"Don't you think it's cruel to let her raise a child for you? What have you done for her? I heard that her life was not good, and she was upset when the news came out." When Timothy learned that Grace was his daughter, the love he felt for her was deep.
As a father, he owed her the responsibility of raising her. He had not done anything, and he could only let his child suffer over these matters. Now, he couldn't help but want to do his best to help his daughter, and to fight and protect her.
"How can we expect the reward without putting in the hard work?" Candace retorted. "Both of us are not strong enough, so we can't face our problem directly. When I encounter difficulties and setbacks in my life, I can only escape. We share the same characteristics, which is to avoid responsibility. Do you want to face life with an attitude of wanting to escape everything?"
Timothy was astonished and turned to look at her as if he was looking at a ghost.
"If she is not strong enough, how can she stand her ground in this cold world? What about the news? What about those storms? In the long river of life, only when she is truly independent, can she face everything and not be defeated."
"Candace, are you crazy? Why do you ask your child to do something that you can't do? Are you saying something that a mother should say? A mother's love should be the softest thing in the world, but what did you do to your daughter? You abandoned her when she was underaged, and now you want her to help you raise your child? Don't you think it's too much?"
"It is too much," she admitted it. "I didn't say that I didn't cross the line."
"Since you know that you've gone too far, you should stop overdoing it. Stop everything immediately and don't go any further. You are ill, but your man is not. Let him take care of the child. Don't let Grace raise the child. She is not obliged to."
"Oh!" She sighed and said, "You just found out that you have a daughter, and you can't wait to help her. What have you been doing?"
"There are roots to all these misfortunes, and you are one of them. Are you pretending to be righteous before me now?"
"Timothy, you are the same as me, and you haven't taken up your responsibilities."
"So don't say those righteous words in front of me. It's already very kind of me not to hold you accountable."
Timothy lost his temper at that moment. His shoulders collapsed, and he looked at Candace who was sitting on the huge stone. She leaned on it, supporting her tired body.
For a long time, he didn't speak.
She slightly withdrew her gaze and looked at the night sky. She eased her tone and said, "Don't blame each other now."
"It's not that we blame each other. It's just that it's unfair to Grace. She's just a girl. You've let her bear too much."
"When she is really mature, she should know that all the hardships are just to mold her. She will thank me later on."
He was stunned by her words. After a long while, he couldn't help retorting, "This is illogical."
"Timothy, I am not abnormal. If I were, I would have shown up in front of your wife and your children and told them that you once loved me." Candace's tone had an underlying sourness to it. "Let them quarrel with you and you will not live in peace. This is what you owe me."
