True Love -
(Book 4) – Chapter 159
Valery expected an unfavourable reaction from her husband… his face had whitened after hearing the news of the pregnancy. She didn’t know what to expect, but she already longed for him to say something. Even if it meant shouting.
-You won’t say anything?
-You… are you sure?
-Yes. Very. She answers fearfully.
Peter smiles tenderly and approaches his wife, wrapping his arms around her waist. He leaves a sweet k**s on her forehead and then hugs her tightly.
-Don’t think I’m angry that you got pregnant, my love.
-But you told me that…
-I know, I remember what I told you. But I wouldn’t be mad that you’re carrying my baby in your belly love. I’d be a complete idiot to do a low thing like that.
-Oh, Peter! She cries on his chest. -I was so worried. I didn’t know how to tell you, I’ve been thinking about the right words all day.
-Hey, it’s all right. We’ll figure out what to do about your classes. And with your parents, but what’s strange to me is… How the hell did you get pregnant? He pulls his wife apart a little.
-I have no idea. She answers uncertainly.
-We have to go to the doctor, honey.
In the morning…
Peter was taking his wife to the clinic, they both had doubts about how she got pregnant. If she was on the pill, she didn’t miss a single one. The best thing was to replace out how the baby was doing.
While the doctor checked Valery, the parents waited for the answer he was about to give them.
-Well, everything looks good. You’re just starting your pregnancy. Smiles the doctor. -Are you sure you didn’t skip any pills?
-No, doctor.
-Well, have you been sick?
-Yes, a month ago I got the flu and I was taking antibiotics. But that was all.
-I see… that was it, the antibiotic cuts the effect of the contraceptives. That’s why you got pregnant.
-So the baby will be fine?
-As far as I can see, yes. Don’t worry, you just need to rest. And come back in a month.
Satisfied with the doctor’s result, the parents-to-be leave the clinic, reassured that everything is going well with the baby.
-When are we going to tell my parents?
-I don’t know… it’s not our turn to visit them yet. Your father won’t be happy about this Val… he’ll scream his head off, you know how he feels about our marriage. Even if he doesn’t say it, he won’t accept that you are my wife.
-Dad is the least of it, I’m all grown up now, love. Married, and now I’m going to be a mother. My dad must accept it. Whether he likes it or not, his eldest daughter is married.
-Maybe we should take that trip first. -Maybe we should take that trip first. It’s better they know once and for all.
-You think so?
-I think so.
It was only a week later, when this couple embarked on an adventure to Greece. Without notifying the girl’s parents that they would be visiting. Peter and Valery set foot on the island where her family lived, she was excited to see them all. It had been six months since she had last seen them.
-Mummy!” cried the young girl running into Andromeda’s arms.
-Daughter, it’s so good to see you. We weren’t expecting you. What are you doing here? Did something bad happen?
-No, Mum… everything’s fine. Andromeda smiles at her. -Where’s daddy?
-In Serifos. Something happened in one of the hotels, he’ll be back in the evening. Come, come in.
-And my sisters? -And my grandmother?
-On the terrace. She smiles.
About five years ago Antoni’s father had died of a heart attack. He was already very old, as were his other grandparents. But they were still in good health.
-I’m surprised they came, Peter, what’s wrong?
-Let your daughter tell you. He said seriously, following her to the terrace where Aphrodite and Cassiopeia were.
-Girls! shouts Valery.
The sisters run off in the direction of the chestnut, and end up hugging each other tightly. Grandma made her way to her a little slower.
In the end, they all found themselves sitting on the terrace talking about anything and everything. Cassiopeia told them that since she was 18 years old, she wanted to follow in her father’s footsteps. So she would study to be in charge of the business. Of course Antoni was more than happy, because his second daughter would not have to go far away.
-It’s really strange that you two are here in the middle of the year. Says the sister in the middle.
-It’s just that we have something important to tell you, but I want dad to be here.
-Are you pregnant? asks Cassiopeia, raising an eyebrow.
The couple received stares from everyone present, they felt a bit intimidated by so many eyes on them.
-Yes. They said in unison.
-What? The shout they heard at the back of the terrace made everyone turn around.
Antonie was standing just below the frame of the terrace entrance, scowling at only one person.
-You’re a bastard! He ran towards Peter who stood up as he saw the avalanche of muscles coming towards him.
-Antonie, calm down man. He said, turning to face him.
But it had been the worst idea he could have come up with… because just like two years ago he got punched in the face again. That man couldn’t think of any other way to solve problems than with his fists. Shit! the doctor exclaimed to himself.
-Dad! Not again! Says his daughter helping her husband.
-I told you, are you always going to do the opposite of what I say? I told you to wait for her to finish school. Look what happened.
-Antoni, stop it… let them explain themselves for the love of the gods. Says his wife, coming to his side.
-Damn it, Antoni, are you always going to hit me?
-Dad, it was an accident ok. I got sick with the flu and the treatment nullified the effects of the pills. It wasn’t that we were looking for this baby. But it came into our lives and we’re not thinking of getting rid of it just because I’m studying.
-No one said to get rid of it… just… for God’s sake, girl, you’re studying.
-So what? -I’m perfectly old enough to take responsibility for my actions. And I came all the way here to tell you what was going on, and you come here like a troglodyte to beat my husband. Her daughter reproaches her with tears in her eyes.
-Daughter, I…
-Nothing. I don’t want to hear any more, Peter and I are leaving right now.
-No, daughter. Your father is…
-No mother. I’m sorry.
The couple walks past the family, of course Andromeda and the girls followed the two of them. Except for the grandmother, who stood there watching her son.
