True Love -
(Book 4) – Chapter 160
The old woman stands up, holding her cane in her hands… she takes her slow steps towards her son.
-Son, at some point you must accept that Valery is married to Peter and that they will now form a family.
-I know that, Mother! She replies with annoyance.
-If you continue with this attitude towards the girl, you will never see her again in Greece or your future grandchildren. She only wants you to be part of her life, you must understand that she lives far away from her family. Together, she made a trip far away just to notify you about her condition.
-Mother!
-You deserve the lecture… you know that. She tells him following the path into the house.
He clicks his tongue… on the one hand his mother was right, he was in a very bad mood when he saw Peter. But who could blame him, first in love with his wife and ends up marrying his eldest daughter. And now, he gets her pregnant.
-F**k!
[…]-Daughter, please don’t go. It’s not necessary.
-It is, mum… -My dad will never understand anything.
-Love, let’s stay. Peter stops before he walks out the door. -It’s late, I really don’t want to go anywhere else.
-But, Peter…
-Let’s stay, apart from the fact that I need to talk to your father.
The girl rolls her eyes… sighs and then nods. Her husband was right about one thing, they were too tired to go out and look for a place to sleep.
Late at night, Antonie is having a drink in his office when Peter enters without knocking. The Greek doesn’t say anything to him, just watches him pour himself a drink and then sit down in the armchair.
-I know you don’t like me, but you’ll have to accept that your daughter loves me and I love her. It’s time for you to drop that attitude towards me.
-When you have children, you’ll understand better.
-I’m sure I will. But I don’t think I’ll spend all my time beating up boys with whatever my daughter comes out with, well I do have a girl.
-I’ll see!
-You must promise to change Antoni… -Valery is very angry, and not for nothing.
-Okay, fine… I’ll try. -Well, I’ll try.
-Cheers to that! says the doctor, raising his glass. The Greek does the same while keeping his seriousness.
[…]Cassiopeia descends the stairs, her father is waiting for her on the ground floor. The girl felt anxious because from that day on she was going to become her father’s right hand… from that day on she would start learning how to run her father’s and grandfather’s business. Her sister didn’t have the time, apart from the fact that she lived in the United States and was six months pregnant. Nor did she feel much desire to take charge of the family business.
On the other hand, she was keen to become her father’s new successor, believing she had the courage and audacity to run the family business. Other than that, she liked being independent and seeing herself as an empowered woman was what she wanted most. She smiled when she saw her father saying goodbye to her mother.
-I’m ready! she says reaching the last step.
-All right, let’s go then. The girl says goodbye to her mother, to follow her father, “Are you okay?
-I’m nervous, I don’t want to do it wrong.
-You’ll do fine, you’re a Lanister, my love. Her father smiles at her.
-I hope so, Daddy.
After a few minutes, father and daughter arrived at Antoni’s office, where they had already prepared a space available for Cassiopeia. The girl quickly settled in, following her father’s instructions throughout the day.
-Casiopea, get ready. In five minutes we’ll have a meeting.
-Very well!
On the way to the boardroom the young woman’s heart was beating like crazy, it was her first meeting with some of her father’s associates. She had to be up to the task, as she would soon be the one organising these meetings. Behind her father, Cassiopeia enters and sits down next to him.
As soon as the young woman looked up to see all the people seated at the long table, the first thing she saw was a pair of emerald eyes staring at her. And who was that?
-Thank you all for coming, I have sent for you all this afternoon because I want you to meet my daughter Cassiopeia Lanister. She’ll be my successor in a couple of years, so she’ll be coming to the firm quite often to learn the business. Daughter. Her father says to her.
-She says, a little distracted by the man’s gaze. -The girl stands up, looking at everyone present. -Thank you all very much, I’ll do my best to be as good as my father.
-Not a bit young! says the guy who had had his eye on her since she had sat down. Antoni looked sideways at his partner.
-Lester… it’s good to see you this afternoon, I thought you weren’t coming.
-How could I not, I have my own interests at heart. He looks at Cassiopeia. -Do you think your daughter has the audacity to run your business? To keep our investments safe?
Cassiopeia looks at him with a frown, she didn’t expect that… she thought she was going to be well accepted by everyone. But apparently that wasn’t going to be the case.
-She’ll be ready, Lester… you don’t have to worry about her age,” says Antoni. Sentence Antoni. -Then let’s start the meeting.
The brown-haired girl sits down, still feeling the gaze of this Lester. How arrogant, she thought. The young woman focused her eyes on the documents she had to hand out, ignoring the man with the penetrating gaze.
A long two hours later, Cassiopeia stood up. To gather her things and return to her office, leaving her father talking about matters that didn’t concern her. She knew that even this guy was looking at her, why was he doing it? He wanted to intimidate her, if that was the case it wasn’t going to work.
She ended up having everything in her hands, to leave the meeting room… all she could think of on the way was that arrogant man. He ruined the most important moment of her life with his arrogant words. He had made her look bad in front of all the shareholders.
