True Love
(Book 4) – Chapter 162

-So the girl of the house has a car of her own. She turns to see Lester coming up the stairs to the entrance of the building.

-Good morning, Mr. Lester! What brings you here? I don’t remember my father saying he visited very often, in fact I thought he hardly ever came by. He turns around to enter the company.

-Well, you can’t blame me for wanting to know how my business is going. He responds, following her closely.

-I confirm that everything is fine, I remind you that my father is still the boss. I’m just his assistant. He doesn’t have to be living every day. She looks at him sideways.

He catches him half smiling… everything was funny to that guy, and because he had the feeling that he only went to the company when his father wasn’t there. That guy was up to something, and she didn’t think it was good.

She went up to his office, followed by Lester… sitting at his desk, watching this Greek busybody sit on the sofa. But what did he want? By the gods!

-I may as well know the real reason you’re here.

-Why don’t you use Antoni’s desk?

-It’s my father’s, I don’t occupy that place yet. Don’t evade my question, I don’t understand why you’ve been coming.

-If I’m honest, ever since I heard you were going to be your father’s new successor, I’ve been curious to meet you. That’s all!

-Well, you’ve done it, now if you’ll let me do my job.

-I know Antoni will be in Serifos for a few days, you’ll be alone here. Shouldn’t you be accompanied by someone more experienced.

-Don’t you have a personal company to understand? he asks with annoyance.

-Yes, but for now this is more important to me.

For a split second Cassiopeia’s heart went wild… so much so that she thought this guy could hear it. The girl blinked rapidly, then sat upright in her chair.

-Mr. Lester, I’m going to ask you to leave. I have a lot of work to do.

-Tell me Lester. He smiles. -I’ll buy you lunch, how about it? Let me know how you’re getting on.

-No! I’ll be busy.

He gets to his feet, putting his hands in his pockets… He walks to the exit without saying a word and leaves. And that’s when Cassiopeia manages to breathe calmly. But what the hell was going on with that man, what do you mean, having lunch together? She denied.

From that day on, the black-haired girl never saw Lester again. And she was grateful for it, because he made her feel restless and, worst of all, she couldn’t concentrate on her work. When her father returned to the days, he brought with him a mysterious invitation.

-Should we attend? Andromeda asked.

-Yes. He is my partner, it would be frowned upon not to attend.

-But father, I don’t feel much like attending.

-You must get used to this kind of meeting. It’s important that you socialise, that they get to know you. I’m sure Lester invited all the partners.

The girl nodded, still not convinced that she wanted to attend the celebration. That idiot Lester was apparently celebrating another year of life, and it had occurred to him to celebrate his birthday on the huge yacht that lay anchored at the dock. It was strange, his father had never been invited to such parties, why was he now?

-I hope they’re ready for tonight. Sentence Antoni standing up.

-I’ll have to replace a babysitter for you, Aphrodite.

-Oh mum! Of course you won’t. I don’t need a babysitter.

-You’re a minor, I won’t leave you alone in the house.

-I won’t accept a nanny. She says, standing up to leave.

-By the gods! This child. Her mother follows her.

[…]

Cassiopeia searched her wardrobe for a suitable outfit for the party. She wasn’t sure why she went to so much trouble to look good, perhaps because she was Antoni Lanister’s daughter… was it just that?

-Yes! Whatever I wear will be all right….

In the evening the young Lanister girl was getting out of her father’s car, admiring the huge yacht before them. Cassiopeia’s hands were sweating, and her legs felt like jelly. She was beginning to think that wearing that dress had been a bad idea, especially when the party was to be at sea.

The cold was beginning to take its toll on her, the warmth of the car she was beginning to miss. She walked up the ramp in the company of her family, being greeted by a huge crowd of people. Not all of them she knew, but a few. The sea breeze made his hair stand on end, god he was freezing! And he hadn’t worn his shawl.

Walking away from his parents, he went in search of somewhere a little less uncovered… he needed to get warm as soon as possible or else he would have to go back to the car and stay there all night. She walked down a hallway full of people, smiling at some of them. Until she found herself alone in a small room. The lack of the cold breeze felt so good, but she was still shivering.

Suddenly a black jacket was draped over her shoulders giving her the rest of the warmth she lacked. The smell of it enveloped her completely, causing her to turn around. Cassiopeia’s eyes widened as she realised it was Lester’s coat.

-How cold is it?

-Yes. A little.

-You don’t look a little, you’re purple.

-I didn’t choose my outfit right.

-I think you look perfect. Smile.

Those words were like a whiplash to her heart… What did she intend? Cassiopeia innocently bit her lips, that place was very intimate, why not get out of there?

-I saw you when you arrived, I was impressed with your genuine beauty.

-Were you spying on me?

-Why say no, I’d be lying if I did. He answers in a hoarse voice.

-Why did you invite my father to this party? I’ve never done that before.

-I only used him to bring you here.

-Why? -You want to make my life miserable everywhere?

-Ever since I saw you come into the office, I haven’t stopped thinking about you. -I think I like you, Cassiopeia. I think I like you Cassiopeia. He says, moving a little closer to her, too close for how little she knew him.
