True Love -
Chapter 20
-We should stop.
-That sounds like a good idea. Said the albino.
-Tell your people, I’ll talk to mine.
-I thought we were all your people, Mr. Dallas. I mentioned with disdain.
-And they are, but for now they don’t listen to me. But once you are in my domain, each and every one of you will obey me.
She looked at him with a raised brow, then turned on her heel and rejoined the women and children.
-What do you believe that story? Seus asked.
-It seems very credible to me.
-Yes, I thought so too. What are we fighting?
-I don’t know. But it’s dangerous, and these albino women are in danger.
-Do you think this killing was to take the princess? -Yes, I’m afraid so.
-I’m afraid so. If this guy only chooses white wolves, being a leader, he’ll only want to show up with one of the leader’s b***d.
-We must protect her!
-I feel we are bringing death home my old friend.
Seus looked at him and nodded, but it was his duty to protect his own even if it cost them their lives. His sons were being trained to take their places in case they did not survive a massive attack.
-We will be cautious from now on, with more vigilance.
-I don’t want my people to live in fear.
-The council has decided so.
-Those damned old men, what do they know? -Always protected, no one knows where they’re hiding. Always protected, nobody knows where they’re hiding and they come to bother us with these shitty jobs. Marcus said more than annoyed.
-We must obey.
-These people are my people, I formed them, not them. They’re meddling where they don’t belong.
-Everything will be fine. We’re taking a lot of young girls, maybe they’ll form good bonds between the herds.
-Maybe! said the Alpha thoughtfully.
Seus left him alone while he went to make his rounds, and check that everything was going well with his people. In a day they would arrive, at the rate they were going they would be at the Blue Moon pack “home at last” by nightfall at best.
-Marcus, what do you want to do? We continue or we stop and wait for dawn to come and start our march. His Beta said to him as they moved slowly through the darkness of the night.
-I think we’d better stop and rest, at least the women and children. The rest of you keep watch at all hours. We are not safe here.
-I understand. I’ll keep watch elsewhere, call me if you need me.
-Sure!
They had been walking for hours and night had long since fallen on the group of people, even when young Deysi told him an impressive story he didn’t know.
Even her father hadn’t told it to him, meaning he wasn’t aware of it. Old Albert had never told any of it to the council, and if they had been aware of it, perhaps they could have long ago captured the wretch who led those ferocious wolves and prevented so many unnecessary deaths.
But what did he want to achieve by wiping out all the clans? What was he looking for? He didn’t understand the reasons, hatred? Envy? They had done nothing to him to make him lash out at his own kind.
It was a big problem that had to be solved quickly before his race disappeared forever.
(…)
-Do you think they’ve gone, Shery? His younger sister asked him.
-I think so. But I’m not sure, it’s best if we don’t go out anymore.
-I told you, your boy told me explicitly not to go outside.
-Yeah, I get it. And stop saying he’s my boy, you know he’s not.
-Yeah whatever! You can’t fool anyone. We should eat.
The sisters dined in peace, as they hadn’t done in a long time. Even though they were deep in the woods and surrounded by danger, they were happy that they wouldn’t have to see their father anymore, let alone Daren.
Shery was still worried, because she knew he wouldn’t give up on them. But how could he know they were hiding in that place, avoiding town was the best way to be safe and as long as Ethan provided them with food they would be fine for the time being.
Dinner was great, and the change of clothes even more so, it was warm and soft and very tasteful. It fit her sister more than perfectly but she felt it was all too tight.
-What will happen now?
-I don’t know. For the moment we have to hold on here.
-With those wolves out there, I doubt it.
-Well, we’ll have to. If we don’t get out, we’ll be fine.
-We should go to that boy’s house. -We’ll be safer.
-We’ll see. We don’t even know him well.
-Well, he’s saved us in more ways than one, I don’t think he’s bad. I miss school, it’s a pity I can’t finish.
-I’m so sorry, Eve.
-It doesn’t matter. She said saddened. -I think I’ll go to sleep.
-I’ll stay up a little longer, rest.
-See you tomorrow!
At that time of night and with so much danger around, she doubted that Ethan was going to arrive, the best thing was to stay at home and come back when there was no danger, they would be fine as long as they didn’t go out. Those animals made her nervous, and in her heart she sensed that something very bad was about to happen.
-Listen to me Daren, it wasn’t my fault, I was in my room asleep and when I woke up the house was still the same as we left it and they were gone.
Daren had Steven by the neck, he was furious, upset, and wanted to kill many people starting with the idiot he had his hands on.
He had told him to keep a close eye on them inside the house and he couldn’t even do that job well, he felt the urge to rip his throat out and end his pathetic life. But he had to control himself because he could still use it some more.
The assholes he had put to guard the girls in the street were lying dead in his basement, useless. Coming here to get drunk when he should be working and taking care of those damn kids. They were giving him a lot of headaches, how dare that Shery get out of his hands. His punishment would be severe.
-I want you to replace them both, and they’d better be whole, or else you’ll be keeping company with the pair of assholes in my headless basement.
-No. No. No… -I promise I’ll get them, they can’t be far away, they don’t have any money.
-Your daughter is very cunning, you think she’ll be around are you an idiot? You can’t do anything right you f*****g bastard.
-I’ll… I’ll… I’ll replace them, I swear Daren. He said in fear as he let go and fell into it abruptly.
Daren motioned to two large men behind Steven, and they began to beat him all over. Until his boss told them to stop.
He sat on the couch in his house, they hadn’t had a party that night, he wasn’t in the mood, especially after good-for-nothing Steven told him five hours later that his wives had run away from home.
He was bursting at the seams with rage, the drunken jerk had excused himself by saying that he had gone to look for them, but since he had no luck he had to confess the truth to him. If they had told him before, he would have found them and that same night he would have been enjoying Eve’s or his sister’s body.
-I’m not going to kill you, but I’m warning you that if they don’t show up in two days you’re going to pay dearly Steven, your job was very easy to take care of them. That they didn’t run away, and you were just drinking and drugging. Now you will pay the consequences. Franchesco and Italo will do the search and you will accompany them. Take them to all the places you know where those pups can get in.
-Yes, yes… I’ll do anything you ask.
He motioned again to the two men mentioned a moment ago to get out of his sight. They did as he asked, dragging Steven across the floor, smearing him with their b***d.
Daren watched the scene with revulsion, he was sick of that damn good-for-nothing old man, all he did was cause him trouble. But he would soon do without him, for when he had his daughters he would only be in the way. Since he wasn’t important, and since he didn’t believe in family, Steven was a dead man and he didn’t know it yet.
He thought of the juicy Shery, she was so bold he knew that this escape plan was due to her. And after going through all she had been through it was only to be expected that she would have escaped. He was a little naive and trusting, believing that they wouldn’t run away, but that would never happen again.
Once he got his hands on them, they would never leave the house and would never see the light of day. His addiction to Shery was so great, it didn’t bother him, but he found it odd that he felt this desire for her and only her. To mistreat her and break her spirit was his greatest desire.
