True Love -
Chapter 19
She looked at him with that kind of look that she didn’t trust him, and never would. But she had no choice. The road was long and boring, and without talking to anyone it would be hell. Everyone was busy watching or minding their own business, so if the Alpha wanted to know the story he could tell him a bit of it. After all, it was a story from many years ago, no one could tell if it was true or false.
-Well, I’ll tell you what I know, my father didn’t have much time to tell me all the stories of my ancestors. He said regretfully.
-All right, just tell me what you know.
-Many, many years ago, long before I came to this world, in my village there lived a solitary wolf, it was said that she had never found her mate, therefore she had not joined anyone because of the simple fact of waiting for her mate. The girl looked up at the sky as if in search of her father’s words as he told her that old story. -The story goes that this young girl had gone out one afternoon to exercise her wolf form, and in doing so in the forest alone she came upon a large grey wolf. This animal growled at her at first sight, but she was struck by its beauty. Everything about him attracted her, and she did not defend herself when he tried to attack her. The large animal, noticing that she would not attack him, let his guard down and approached her, sniffing her. She did not move, she was still in her wolf form. She could not go back to being human and show weakness in front of such a wolf in front of her.
-Was it a wild wolf? Marcus asked, he didn’t know that story. Rather, he had no knowledge that the wild ones were big.
-They said they were! It was about the size of one of us, and as intimidating as any. The difference with this wolf was that his ears were pointed, like those of the savages.
-It’s impossible, I’ve never heard anything like it.
-It’s an old story, Mr. Dallas, it’s up to you to believe it or not. May I go on?
-Go ahead.
This she-wolf apparently felt a strange attraction for this wolf, their first meeting was fate, but the following ones were because they both wanted it. If my father had found out, he would have expelled her from the pack, but only for fraternising with a coloured wolf, because at that time there was no threat of wild wolves. At the end of so many encounters the young woman became pregnant, she could not hide her condition for long, the essence she carried in her womb was different from ours and my father discovered it. He gave her the choice of never seeing that wolf again and let her take the pup or be expelled from the pack forever. Yes I know, my father was a bit orthodox, but those were rules made to be kept, not broken.
The girl looked at the ground as if trying to accept that this was a cruel life, either you followed the rules or you left to be alone without the help of your family. That was what she was trying to do, to stay with her family.
The young woman of course decided to have the baby, and went to the forest far away from my father’s domain. Her partner never showed up again, she was left alone, without the support of anyone, without the love of her life. One afternoon when she was about to give birth the matriarch of our pack visited her, she found her lying on the ground while she was being torn apart inside, as you know it is important for a she-wolf that her mate is with her. Since he is an important factor for the birth of the pup, through the bond he has with the baby he helps it to come out properly without hurting the mother so much. But she was alone, and she had to manage. But what she didn’t know was that this baby was different from all the others, her birth was not normal and she couldn’t give birth to it being half human and half wolf as it is common among wolves. She had to transform herself into a wolf and give birth to him as if he were a “dog”.
She finished the word with a shrug…
-That has never happened, how is it possible? No she-wolf would give birth like that.
-She couldn’t give birth to the baby, it was killing her inside. The matriarch proposed that idea to her, and although it seemed far-fetched, she was in pain and fainted. She was in pain and bleeding to death, it was the only option they had. And so she did, soon a small white wolf began to emerge from her being.
-Wait, she was born in wolf form?
-That’s right, Mr. Dallas. The matriarch was as surprised as she was frightened. But still she took care of her. The she-wolf returned to her normal state, and within an hour after birth the creature became a normal baby. The two women could replace no explanation for what had happened, but they knew that this child was not normal, even if it seemed so.
-That child… That child is the leader of these wolves that attack us, isn’t he?
-He’s right! That child has grown up as a normal human, but he is a rampaging, ruthless, soulless beast. He is a danger to us all.
-Where is the mother? We must replace her, she will know…
-She died Mr. Dallas… -Her own son killed her.
What kind of wolf were they dealing with…
-And then what happened? -Where is the matriarch?
-She was killed along with my father and the other wolves. -She was killed along with my father and the other wolves. No elder was left to tell anything but me.
-Then now more than ever we must protect you Deysi.
-But that’s not the end of the story, Mr. Dallas. The mother took care of her little boy every day, but there was something strange about the little infant’s growth. When he was barely a year old, he already looked five years old, the matriarch could not understand it and much less consult with my father, if they found out that she was helping him she would have been in a lot of trouble. The boy grew to the age of two, and by the time the woman went to visit the young she-wolf to bring her provisions what she found was out of this world. The little boy was turned into a white wolf, he was the size of an adolescent wolf and she thought he was someone else, but he was not. She knew the smell of that animal very well. But the most heartbreaking of all was what he had done, the white wolf licked his own mother’s b***d from his muzzle. The matriarch said that she had become a wolf and she imagined that she did it to defend herself from the puppy.
-What did the boy do?
-He ate his mother’s heart, the wolf lying on the floor had a big hole in her chest, as she slowly transformed into a human. The matriarch asked him why he did it, that she was his mother and it was forbidden to eat her own kind. And he only answered that she was only a bearer to bring those like him into the world, only a chosen one and that her heart would give her the power she needed. That only women who were white wolves could carry his essence. And that it was her nature to eat his heart. The matriarch didn’t flinch, just watched the scene and the look of that wolf that gave her chills. She counted that he passed by her side and did nothing to her, she turned to see him and the last thing she saw of him was his hind legs getting lost in the dense forest.
How could a puppy end the life of a full-grown she-wolf?
-Because he is not a normal wolf Mr. Dallas, he is different, powerful and evil. By now he must be an old man, but not that old.
-Impossible that being so small he could survive.
-He wasn’t small, he was already an adult and very intelligent. That’s our enemy.
-That’s why your father has always kept you hidden from everyone.
-He was afraid that man would come after me. -And with good reason.
-And with good reason. -What did the matriarch do next?
She buried the she-wolf. And she went back to the village and told my father everything. Of course he was sceptical, but as the years went by, these wild animals began to appear, attacking their own kind, especially those of our race, leaving only the women alive. From there my father began to think that the story was true and induced that this man was creating all this chaos.
Marcus looked to his Beta for an answer, but the Beta was more surprised than he was. The story was so unreal, yet it made so much sense. But if it was so, that the leader of these wolves was a human why couldn’t they smell him. “Of course the scent” the matriarch had said he had a particular scent.
-The matriarch once mentioned what the smell of that child was like.
-She said it smelled like death.
-That’s very difficult to trace, that smell is everywhere.
-I already told you, he’s a cunning guy. He won’t let himself be caught just like that.
-But we’ll do it!
-I hope so…
They walked on in silence, the journey was long and very tiring. Some children were beginning to complain. And the few pregnant women were slowing down. They would have to take a break to rest, so they would never get there.
