True Love
(Book 2) – Chapter 47

A great dinner Jorge. Frederic Dixson, the owner of one of the most prestigious and important banks in Atlanta, loudly exclaimed.

—The dinners you organize on Saturdays are wonderful, Emily.

Megan carefully observed the man who complimented her parents with such enthusiasm. He was a gentleman of about sixty years old, quite well-preserved for his age, however he was overweight. His mustache and hair were as white as snow, he always wore a suit to every dinner Emily hosted. Or well, most of the time Megan had to be present at the meals that her parents prepared for her guests, among which Mr. Dixon was one of the most frequent guests that her parents had.

This, like every other Saturday, she showed up very punctually with her only son Gerald, who, to Megan’s regret, both families tried to match them at any cost, but she was not willing to succumb to her father’s will.

It’s not that Gerald was a bad catch, but he wasn’t the kind of man she expected for herself. He was handsome, she couldn’t deny it, blond with blue eyes, elegant demeanor, and for many other women he was very rich, but for Megan he was just another daddy’s spoiled child who, with the snap of his fingers, got everything she wanted.

He, for his part, tried to be sociable with her, but he only talked about boring and unappealing topics for her ears. Golf and his father’s bank were not conversations that a woman felt any emotion about. He was an attractive man but bored.

She was tired of being there acting as if everything was normal for her, everything they said made no sense, they were simply superficial words, boasting about who had more property or money.

—Do you want to show a better face, daughter, please. Her mother whispered in her ear, showing a radiant smile to her guests.

—This is my best mother face!

—Behave my dear. The woman’s look of disapproval was more than clear.

—Of course whatever you say! She responded smiling at those present.

—Oh, George! Your daughter is more beautiful every day, just like her mother.

The banker expressed blushing. With his big cheekbones, which made his eyes smaller.

—Frederic please. Megan’s mother responded embarrassed.

—By the way Gerald, you should ask Megan out. I don’t know, maybe take her to see one of your golf games so you can show her how good you are. Jorge encouraged the boy.

— Ella It’s true son, why haven’t you invited her yet? Don’t be ashamed boy, Jorge and Emily give you their consent.

It seemed like she was painted on the wall, her opinion didn’t matter. That they could know if she wanted to go out with Gerald or not. The last thing he wanted was to have to accompany that boy to his boring games and the worst thing was to have to mix with his friends who were not friendly at all, since they tend to be the kind of people who if you are not in their social circle you will not be well received. and Megan hated that.

—Of course I will, father! She turned to see the blonde next to her. –Megan, I apologize for not taking you into account and not inviting you to watch my games, this Thursday I have an important game and I would love for you to accompany me, what do you say?

He would love nothing more than to say “No” to that superficial man, but for his own good and to avoid having more problems with his parents he had to accept that proposal and attend the tedious game, of course.

—Of course it will be very fun, Gerald. Giving him one of her usual forced smiles, she hated being a hypocrite but it was better than having to argue with her parents for wanting to make her own decisions.

—Fantastic, I’ll pick you up in the afternoon, I promise you won’t be bored.

She was already bored just thinking about spending an afternoon at that club watching him play golf.

—Okay, no problem, Gerald! For me if you get a flat tire, I fantasize.

—That’s it, and that way you two will get to know each other much better. Gerald’s father exclaimed, very happy because his son was going to date the daughter of a very wealthy banker from a good family.

After dinner, Mr. Dixon and her son left satisfied, Megan’s parents were also believing that her only daughter was really happy with the decisions they made for her. But what they didn’t see was that she was suffocating with the way they controlled her life, she couldn’t have a say in anything, nor make her own decisions. Her life was chaos.

—Daughter, your mother and I have something to inform you. Sitting in the living room after the Dixons retired, her mother liked them to have tea before retiring to her rooms.

—Yes, dear, your father and I will travel to London tomorrow morning, and as always you will go with us. So go up and tell Melisa to help you pack, and don’t worry, we’ll be back in time for you to be here for your date with Gerald, men like that can’t be stood up, daughter, remember that well.

She was tired of her parents’ impositions, they couldn’t ask if she wanted to go on that trip.

—Why do they want me to attend that trip, mother?

—Your father has an important meeting so we must accompany him, you know.

—I’m not going on that trip! She responded bluntly.

-What are you saying? Of course you will go, we have always taken these trips as a family Megan. Her father exclaimed.

—I won’t go, father. Excuse me but I will not accompany you.

—Whether you like it or not, you will accompany us.

—I’m not a girl anymore, father! I am a woman who wants to make her own decisions. Shouted him.

—Lower the tone of your voice Megan Elizabeth, remember that I am your father and you live in my house.

—Well, if I have to leave here to make my decisions, I will! I’m tired of them controlling everything in my life.

—You’re not leaving here, we only want the best for you. Do you want to make another bad decision? Like five years ago? His father challenged him.

Those words hurt her deeply, and even more so the person they came from. Her own b***d attacked her.

—Dear, please, it is not necessary to remember the past.

—Why mother? Are you ashamed to remember what your daughter did?

-Of course! Do you think that’s what she wanted for you?

—How can you talk to me like that? You don’t have any feelings, you two have no idea what I feel. I want to leave, become independent, make my life on my own.

-Never! Do you understand? That won’t happen. You will marry Gerald, he will give you the good life you lead and that’s all.

—I don’t love him! I won’t marry someone I don’t love!

She couldn’t understand her parents, they wanted to force her to do things she didn’t want to do without caring about her feelings or opinions.

-You will do it! And as for the trip, only your mother and I will go. I hope that this time we are away helps you reflect on your rude behavior.

—I won’t marry him. I will marry the man of my choice, so he goes and tells Mr. Dixon that there will be no wedding!

—Daughter, please, we do this for your good, we love you, we only wish for your well-being.

—I love you too, and for that reason I tell you that I will not marry a man just because of his last name and social position.

She ran up the stairs to her bedroom, on the verge of tears and furious with her parents. She slammed the door and that was the end of the conversation.
