True Love -
(Book 2) – Chapter 48
Miss Blake… Excuse me, Mr. Ford just arrived.
—Thank you Melisa but I already told you to call me by my first name.
—Excuse me, sir… Megan, I just can’t get used to it.
-Don’t worry. Go in to Mr. Ford and bring us two coffees please.
-Right away.
It had been three months since Megan had hired a private detective to replace the whereabouts of her paternal grandmother and Mr. Ford was the best in all of Atlanta for the job. They knocked on the door of his father’s office, giving way to a tall, somewhat older man.
—Good morning, Mr. Ford, please come forward and sit down.
—Good morning Miss Blake, I have good news for you this morning.
—I’m very glad, it’s been a long time since he sent me his last report.
That investigation was costing Mr. Ford, his grandmother had disappeared from all of Atlanta. He was beginning to fear that his grandmother was dead, leaving her alone without any family.
Since the tragic accident that his parents suffered on the trip to London, his father’s private plane where they made their trip that morning, encountered a storm in which one of the lightning bolts had hit the engine, crashing, costing him his life. to all her crew, that was three months ago, leaving Megan devastated by the loss of her loved ones.
An entire week had been a nightmare for her, taking care of everything related to rescuing the bodies and then burying them. A month after having buried her parents, the family lawyer read her will where she stipulated that because she was her only child, she inherited absolutely everything from her.
Her father, as the owner of another of the largest and most important banks in Atlanta, had amassed a great fortune over the years. However, he did not know what the bank’s work was like, so it was difficult for him to take charge of it, delegating everything to the vice president, an older man but quite competent for the position. They held weekly meetings to keep her up to date with the operation and management of the businesses.
—Well, here I bring you the last address of the place where your grandmother lived. I’m not sure she’s still there, but this is the information I have for you at the moment.
That was a lot of progress, since she was left alone in the world she made the decision to look for her grandmother, something that her father refused to do. She said that if her mother had left home and abandoned him and her husband, she had no right to be found. Megan was four years old at that time when her grandmother had left home. For a little girl, she had vague memories of the old woman. She remembered her in the kitchen baking apple pie, as long as her grandfather was not in the house. He used to say that his wife did not have to do that type of work, that there was a staff to take care of it. And unfortunately her son had chosen to instill the same thing in his wife and his daughter.
It was not at all wonderful to come from a family of macho men, imposing their will. He hated those types of men, dominant and possessive.
-Let me check. He took the envelope nervously, he was afraid to know where his grandmother was all that time. – Here she says that she was in San Antonio!
-Indeed. Saint Anthony! The detective repeated.
—According to his research, he says that my grandmother is on a ranch called “El Pride JM”
—That is also correct, she was living on that ranch, I don’t know in what capacity she did, miss. It is a fairly large ranch, it has many acres of land and many livestock, they also raise horses. The owner is an older man named Eduard Manson. But unfortunately he was not able to investigate anything else, the people of that town are very reserved. As far as I know, that’s his last address.
—I understand Mr. Ford, this is a great start. Since the address is here, I will take the trouble of writing a letter asking about my grandmother, someone must know her whereabouts.
—I hope you have good luck, Miss Blake.
—Keep investigating, take the agreed payment and let me know if you have any information, thank you very much.
Megan understood why the detective could not replace the whereabouts of her grandmother, she was not in the city, but in southern Texas. That she had driven her to go to a place like that, distancing herself so much from her family. But she would replace out, she would write a letter either addressed to the owner of that ranch or to her own grandmother. He was determined to meet her again so they could be together.
A few light knocks on the door made him look up from the papers that the detective had given him. He looked at Melisa who was entering his father’s old office. He could still smell her pine fragrance. It caused him deep pain to remember his last conversation or rather discussion, only to lose them and now be sitting there at her desk taking care of her business.
—Sir… Megan, young Dixon is in the living room waiting for you. He has told me that he needs to talk to you.
—Send him in Mel.
Gerald always dressed in a suit like his father, but that day he was too formal to be a simple visit.
—Hello Megan, I’m delighted to see you again, it’s been a long time since we last saw each other.
—Yes, a long time, Gerald. What brings you here?
At that moment Melisa came in with two cups of coffee, left them on the table and left.
—Well, you see, I know it’s a little premature but I wanted to invite you to lunch to talk about some things we have pending.
—I don’t think we have anything pending Gerald, in fact I’m quite busy, I have a lot of things to review and…
—Oh come on, just lunch. Also, I have something very important to tell you.
—Gerald. She told him, getting up from the chair and walking to the window that overlooked a splendid pool that the house had in the garden, it had a wonderful view and that morning it was a wonderful day. – I want you to know that I am not interested in you Gerald. I don’t want to get married, I’m sorry! I cut the thread without beating around the bush.
—Megan, that was a surprise to me. I like you and I wanted to propose to you to go to another level of our relationship as friends, I thought you liked me.
—I accepted your invitations because my parents forced me to do so, they wanted us to get married Gerald but I didn’t want it, I’m sorry.
He stood up slowly and looked straight back.
—I misunderstand your feelings, I thought otherwise and I let myself be carried away by my father and yours. So I have nothing to do here, I’m sorry if I bother you.
—I’m sorry, Gerald.
-Don’t worry! I can’t force you to feel something for me.
He couldn’t deceive him or herself by getting into a relationship that he doesn’t want just to please the memory of her parents. It was her happiness that was at stake and he would fight for her no matter what. She returned to her desk and began writing the letter to her grandmother, hoping for a positive response.
—Do you think they will respond to the letter she sent? Melisa asked as she dressed Megan’s bed.
—I sent it three days ago, I didn’t expect them to respond the next day. In fact they may not respond.
—And what will he do if his grandmother is still on that ranch?
—Go get her. I don’t know what she could be doing on a ranch in Texas.
—And if it was that her grandmother remarried, maybe to the owner or something like that and she doesn’t want to return.
—She left because my grandfather was too caveman for her taste, she was very independent and my grandfather stifled her.
—We already know from whom you have inherited your desire to become independent. Her friend laughed.
-If it can be. I’m a bit like my grandmother, and now that my grandfather and my father are gone, I would like him to come back with me, I could do whatever I wanted here. And if you don’t like this house, I’ll sell it and buy another one, less ostentatious and with less luxury.
—Would you do that, miss? Melisa asked alarmed.
—Don’t worry, no one will be left without a job in this house. Everyone will go with me, and if I did, I would do it for my grandmother, and I don’t like this overwhelming house either.
—Well, miss, you are the owner and you will know how to make the right decision.
—We have already talked about calling me Miss Melisa, my parents are no longer here so please call me by my first name.
—Yes, if you excuse me.
Melisa was three years younger than Megan and they grew up almost together, they had to play secretly because Megan’s parents were very selective with her daughter’s friends and that is why the girls played secretly.
Melisa’s mother worked for the Blake family for years and in addition to being the one who ran the house, she was Megan’s nanny. She had died five years ago, leaving her daughter in charge of most of everything related to the work of home. But now that Megan’s parents were deceased, she did not impose anything on any of her employees unless it was strictly necessary, and therefore Melisa had gone from being an employee to being her friend.
—If my grandmother is at that ranch, I will go look for her and you will accompany me, Mel.
-Of course. The bed is ready, do you want me to prepare your bath?
—No, for the love of God! Stop doing those types of tasks, you know very well that I can do them myself, I hated that they had to do everything for me first.
—Okay, I’ll leave you. Call me if you need anything. Melisa left the room leaving Megan alone with her thoughts.
She sighed and she thought that where could her grandmother be if she was healthy, she missed her a lot.
