Chapter 15

DONNA’S POV

I tried holding back my rage, but I just couldn’t. I wished I had just killed her with my bare hands when I just gave birth to her. At least I wouldn’t be having this pain and disgrace of being the mother to an ugly cursed girl.

As much I tried to reject her, I can’t change the b***d flowing through our veins. I was her mother and she would always be my daughter even if I rejected her.

Koko would always be the curse I had to bear all the days of my life. She would always remind me of that reckless night I had with her father, Miko Magnus.

As I wept uncontrollably on the floor, my mind lingered back to when all of this started. I never wanted this. This wasn’t the life I wanted for myself but the Moon goddess had it planned otherwise.

I was amongst the most beautiful girls as at the time of Gad’s father, Alpha Jace Brown. All the girls dreamt of being his mate and I was no exception. I was full of pride and was very sure that he would definitely be my mate.

Afterall, we are of same background. I was the daughter of the previous Beta and he was the son of the previous Alpha. That was a perfect match made by the goddess. I kept dreaming of being Alpha’s Jace Brown’s mate everytime.

Though I could see he doesn’t like me that much, but I believed as soon as we were mated, he will no doubt fall in love with me. I had that confidence, because apart from family background, I was the most beautiful at that time.

It was three days away from our eightenth birthday, and I was so excited that I will finally be the Luna of this pack.

On my way to the market one day with my friend, I saw Alpha Jace Brown talking to a girl that I couldn’t point my finger at. Who could that be? I pondered. I wanted to take a closer look, but they were already gone.

“Was that the alpha I saw with Princess Sophia?” My friend asked.

“Princess Sophia? Who is she?” I asked curiously.

“Ha! How can you forget the daughter of the former Alpha’s step Uncle? She is royalty and always comes to play around with us on holidays.” she replied.

My mind seemed to get a clearer picture of the so called Sophia. I wasn’t pleased at all, because that girl was always by Alpha Jace Brown’s side even when we were younger.

He had jokingly told her he would marry her, even if she wasn’t his mate! This wasn’t good at all. What if she actually wasn’t his mate, will he still marry her?

“Donna, don’t you remember her still? She…”

“I do remember her, but I will rather not talk about it.” I replied firmly.

My friend nodded but asked a question after five minutes of silence.” Donna, what if Sophia turns out to be the Alpha’s mate?”

I turned to look at her with eyes filled with fury that she began to stutter.” So..rr..y… so..rr..y”

“Better. I hate to hear those silly assumptions.” I said walking away from her. I was so angry, but had to suppress it.

Anyways, it was just three days away and by the time I become the Luna, I will kick every maiden out of his way. With that thought in mind, I finished my purchase and left swiftly.

It was finally the day of our eighteen years on earth. Actually, today we chose our mates and the mating ceremony proper which was more like a marriage ceremony would be held six months later. It was a ceremony held for the accepted mates to signify their acceptance into the institute of marriage.

All the maidens and young men who were around the ages of eighteen all gathered around the village square where the elders and priest would be sitted to monitor the process.

I was so excited. I dressed up flamboyantly in Hope of being chosen as the mate to Alpha Brown. I was looking at the other girls smugly. I had never been so happy all these years.

I looked around and saw Sophia. She was dressed so casually with just a simple gown and no makeup or whatever. I sneered in my heart, thinking that even if Alpha Jace Brown was blind surely the goddess wasn’t.

Who would pick such a girl who dressed like a peasant over me? Even if she has the Princess attached to her name, it doesn’t make her status higher than mine.

It was about five minutes to midnight when it would clock our new age. The priest gathered us in two lines. The males were facing us. The process was simple, but with a little guidance of the spirit.

As we stood facing each other, we would close our eyes till it clocked twelve. After which, with our eyes still closed, our wolves would lead us straight to our mate.

It was only our wolves that could identify our mates, so we had to listen to it. If it doesn’t say anything and we remained standing, it simply meant we don’t have our mates yet. We would either meet them later or never.

We all closed our eyes and waited patiently for the priest to hit the bell. Slowly, the time ticks until finally we heard the sound of the bell.

I was waiting for Alpha Jace Brown’s call anxiously, but it seemed like it was not coming. And my wolf was silent. But after a while, I heard the voice I had memorized in my head.

“MATE!”

We all heard Alpha Jace Brown say. My eyes were still closed and waiting for my wolf to utter the words and bring my eyes to be locked with his.

Slowly I opened my eyes and saw eyes as dark as the night staring deeply into mine as well. My wolf was howling in my head and it was just that one word.

But I couldn’t bring myself to say it because the person right before my eyes was none other than…him?

“Mine!”

He uttered and I almost fainted. This wasn’t real, right?
