Chapter 16

Donna’s POV

I widened my eyes in shock at the trick of the Moon goddess. What was the f*****g meaning of this? I was so angry that I refused to utter the word that I was supposed to.

My eyes darted to where Alpha Brown was and I saw a sight that got my heart crashing into pieces. This can’t be true! Maybe I should close my eyes again!

I closed my eyes and opened it, but it was still the same thing! I was totally broken and angry. How could the moon goddess do this to me?

How could she mate Alpha Jace Brown to Sophia? How could she disappoint me! All my longings were in vain. And to punish me further, she paired me with the lowly Gamma!

How could she pair me with such ugly thing? I don’t want anyone but the alpha! I was so enraged that I left the village square without waiting for the other entertainment.

I cried in the house for more than a week. My parents had to force me to eat, but I refused. I knew it wouldn’t make any difference, but I was hoping to see a miracle.

On a particular day, I was so angry that I decided to confront Alpha Brown. I asked to meet him up at our regular spot where we trained.

I waited for him patiently until I saw a figure walking towards me. But when I looked up it was not Alpha Brown but Sophia.

“I asked to meet the alpha, not you! Why would you show up instead of him?” I asked in anger.

“What do you mean? And what gives you the right to talk to me like that? Who do you think you are?” Sophia asked as her eyes were filled with anger.

But I wasn’t going to give up. This slut has no right to snatch him away from me! He was mine from the start!

“He never liked you. We were the perfect match. We were supposed to be mates, not you!”

“Are you the goddess now? Pairing us? What right do you have to claim someone else’s mate? Aren’t you ashamed? Don’t you have your own mate?” Sophia questioned me fiercely.

“Shut up you bitch! I will deal with you!” I screamed as I sprang towards her, but the guards blocked me.

I looked at her in anger before dashing off into the woods. I needed to vent out my anger. Still feeling frustrated and unsatisfied, I decided to go and meet my so-called mate. I needed to end it all.

I saw him right outside his shabby apartment outside the palace. Well, it wasn’t really shabby, but it can’t be compared to the palace or my place. Afterall, he lost his parents at an early age.

Without waiting for him to talk, I dragged him inside his opened apartment.

“I never wanted someone like you as my mate. I hate you and I can’t bear to be with you. So I am rejecting this bond.” I screamed at his face.

Without waiting for him to say anything, I uttered those words I knew might cause me pain later on.

“I, Donna Anderson, reject you, Miko Magnus as my mate!”

I waited for one, two and several seconds, yet he did not say anything. He just looked at me sadly.

“You are supposed to reject me too!” I urged him.

“I, Miko Magnus, do not reject you, Donna Anderson as my mate. I will forever cherish you.” He said.

“How dare you! I order you now to reject me! I don’t accept you! I will never love you!” I screamed at him, but he turned around and left me alone in his apartment.

I growled, but no one cared here to my pains. After crying for some time, I managed to leave his house. When I got home, I fell sick.

I was sick for another week before I regained myself. I haven’t given up yet, as I still tried all ways to get to Alpha Jace Brown. I believed that there was still a chance for me till the mating ceremony in less than five months time.

I waited and prayed for the Moon goddess to answer my prayers. I even prayed for death for Sophia!

Six months later, it was finally the time for the mating ceremony. The Pack’s hall was decorated beautifully as many people were gathered to celebrate their union. I was also praying that Alpha Brown might just change his mind.

Slowly, people arrived at the party with their mates or family members. The hall was gradually filled to the brim and everyone awaited the arrival of the alpha. This was the day he would also crown his Luna.

I clasped my hands tightly.

Suddenly the door was flung open and the alpha walked in alongside a radiant Sophia. He was holding her gently as he led her to the seat reserved for them. My heart was already breaking, but I still held on. Afterall, he hadn’t made the announcement.

After the hall had calmed down, Alpha Brown cleared his throat and stared at everyone in the large hall.

“Welcome everyone to this year’s mating ceremony. I am very glad and honoured to be not only the host but also the celebrant…”

I listened attentively to his speech because I didn’t want to miss anyone.

“… And so according to tradition, I will crown my Luna today. And another joyous information that I can’t wait to share with you all. I am going to be a father! I am having an heir in a few months. Luna Sophia is pregnant.”

Did I just hear right? It was like I was struck by lightning as the news of Sophia’s pregnancy filled the hall. She was pregnant? How could she be pregnant! Why would she be pregnant!

I was so hurt, angry and frustrated that I started drinking heavily. I drank so many shots that I became drunk. I staggered out of the hall into the lonely lane that led to my house.

I was totally pissed as I continued cursing Sophia who put me in this misery. As I staggered along the road, I heard whistling from behind me.

I turned to see some groups of men heading towards me. Though I was drunk, I knew they were up to no good.

“Why don’t we have a nice time with you since no one wants you?” One of them said.

“F**k you!” I responded in a slur.

“Wow! You just guessed our mind because that’s what we are planning to do to you.” Another chipped in.

I wanted to run, but I was too drunk and as one of the men got closer to me, I heard a shrill cry and sounds of bones breaking.
