Unclaimed Luna’s Desire -
Chapter 43 Paul's Vow
Ellie's
POV:
"I've always liked her." Paul's voice was calm but firm as he warned William, "If I catch you messing with Ellie again, it won't just be a kick. I'll use every connection I have to hunt you down, and not even Joseph can save you. I mean it." I knew William wasn't strong enough to take on Paul, and he wouldn't dare disrespect him. Paul was the Pack's deputy leader and had a lot of supporters.
If William crossed Paul, a lot of people would be out for revenge. Like Paul said, taking William down would be a piece of cake.
Paul's network was solid. He was humble, good at winning people over, and no one wanted to go against him.
People always said Paul was a gentleman, especially with women, but I knew the darkness in his heart.
Back in that secret cabin, I saw Paul's brutality firsthand. His temper was just as fierce as Aelros'.
Sure enough, William muttered some curses under his breath, not daring to face Paul, and left with his crew, looking defeated.
As William walked away, he shot me a look full of anger and hatred.
I saw his lips move, like he was saying something to me.
Thanks to Aelros' intense training, my vision had gotten a lot better. Even from that distance, I could read William's lips.
He said, "Just wait, Ellie. One day, I'll make you pay."
His threat felt like a bucket of ice water dumped over me, leaving me cold and numb.
Thinking about what William had done to me before, I shuddered with fear.
I thought, 'William will definitely kill me! My transformation day is still days away. If he gets his hands on me, I'm done for. What should I do? Who can protect me from William's revenge? Oh god, I'm doomed!' The wounds from William's beatings still hurt, even though they had turned into scars.
"Ellie," I heard Paul say.
He gently tilted my head up with his warm hand, making me look into his eyes.
Paul said slowly and firmly, "It's okay. I'll protect you forever."
I blinked, not quite believing him. "Forever?"
"Forever."
Paul's words hit me hard, like a sword piercing my chest.
I thought, 'Men only swear a lifetime of loyalty to their luna. But Paul said this to me. Does he want me to be his luna?'
I knew he liked me. He said so.
But rumors had it that Paul was a man who had loved many women, never just one.
I always thought I was just another girl to him, so I didn't take his confession seriously.
I thought he was just playing around, but it turned out he was serious.
"Paul..." My mind went blank, not knowing what to say.
Paul shook his head, took my hand, and placed it on his chest. "You don't have to say anything. Just listen to my heartbeat."
His heartbeat was strong and steady, making me want to rely on it.
Paul continued, "As long as my heart beats, I'll be forever faithful to you, never leaving you."
My vision blurred as a tear slowly slid down my cheek.
I blinked and saw the tear drop on the back of his hand like a raindrop.
"Thank you." My heart was filled with gratitude.
This was the first time in my life that someone valued me so much. His vow made me start to waver inside.
Paul was truly a good man, someone worth relying on.
He hugged my waist, lifted me off the ground, and took out a handkerchief from his pocket to wipe the dust off my cheeks, a true gentleman. Paul said, "Don't feel pressured. I'm just pursuing you now, and you have the right to say no."
But Paul had just saved me, so how could I refuse him?
I felt guilty for trying to distance myself from someone who genuinely cared for me.
So when we left that place, I didn't keep my distance from Paul. I sped up a bit to walk alongside him and took the initiative to hold his hand.
Paul quickly held my hand back, and our fingers intertwined.
His palm was big, warm, and reassuring, making me want to rely on it.
This feeling was totally different from what Aelros gave me. Aelros was prickly, and his attitude towards me was cold, even though his actions were warm. Except for that one terrifying night that scared me, Paul's touch felt like silk, smooth and non-threatening.
I felt like I could trust him completely now.
But there was always this nagging feeling that I was missing something.
Right now, I was too happy, the new and exciting scenes stimulating my brain, leaving me no time to think.
I had completely forgotten that I still hadn't contacted Aelros.
Paul's POV:
I never expected Ellie to be so naive. I hadn't even tried that hard, and she was already wavering.
Ellie was too innocent, too sweet.
How could there be such easily deceived women in this world?
I thought of Ellie as a bird with broken wings, unable to fly in the vast sky, kept in a cage made of gold. If she flew out, she would die due to lack of survival skills.
I was willing to provide her with a safe haven. After all, she was truly enticing, and I wasn't tired of her yet.
It was strange.
Usually, when I got a woman I liked, I lost interest in her. But Ellie was different.
She was like a bottle of fine wine, worth savoring, unforgettable.
In fact, I had deliberately ordered my men to lure William over.
After all, only when the hero saves the damsel in distress does the princess fall for the prince who rescued her.
Sure enough, Ellie's attitude towards me was no longer indifferent, and she even took the initiative to hold my hand, which made me extremely happy.
Just when I thought everything was going according to plan, Ellie gently tugged at my sleeve and asked, "Can I make a call to Aelros? I left without saying goodbye to him. I'm afraid he's worried about me." I didn't expect that even under my charm, Ellie still had Aelros on her mind.
I thought, 'Damn it! What kind of magic does Aelros have to make Ellie still remember him so much?'
I was angry.
I felt like all I had done for Ellie was for nothing, which made me feel a bit defeated, but only a little, because I knew Ellie's attitude towards me had changed, which was a good thing.
I had to take a deep breath and remind myself to stay calm.
I said, "I often meet Aelros. I will convey your message to him."
After spending a memorable first night with Ellie, I could sense Ellie's fear of the vicious side of me that might come out if I revealed my true self.
If I hadn't taken her out to play, she would still be wary of me now.
I had to make Ellie trust me, which was the only way for us to have a chance.
"But... I want to talk to Aelros myself," Ellie said.
"I can feel that Aelros has been in a bad mood these days." I could feel Ellie's hands trembling on my arm after hearing my words, and I chuckled inwardly, "Probably because you left without saying goodbye to him."
"So for now, don't contact him, and let me handle it." I patted her head reassuringly. "Aelros and I are friends. I understand him."
Of course, Aelros was angry because he lost his woman.
But I was happy to facilitate this misunderstanding, as it was advantageous to me.
I knew Ellie was still hesitating, so I continued, "Just stay here with me for a few days. Otherwise, if your parents replace out you went somewhere else, they won't let you off the hook. And besides, William is definitely waiting for you in the shadows. He will replace a way to retaliate against you."
I knew Ellie was smart and she would figure it out.
She had no choice but to agree, because there were too many dangers outside for her. Staying with me was the safest option.
Sure enough, Ellie nodded slowly. "Thanks in advance."
This greatly pleased me.
