Under the Heiress' Facade -
Chapter 559
"Yeah, my friend isn't feeling well, and it's rather inconvenient for him to leave the house. So, I have to keep making visits," Everly made up an excuse with a nod.
"Everly, are you dating someone?" Catherine asked. Everly usually had the same excuses every time she asked to take leave.
Everly avoided Catherine's gaze. To prevent her from realizing that something was off, Everly purposely exclaimed childishly, "Mrs. Jones, stop teasing me! No, I'm not dating anyone. He's just a normal friend."
Catherine smiled, thinking that Everly really had a boyfriend. "Go ahead. Once the time is right, you can bring him back here and introduce him to everyone."
Everly felt slightly guilty. "Sure."
After leaving the clinic, Everly went home and changed into a light yellow dress. She even put on some light makeup before leaving through the back entrance of the residential area.
After walking about 500 yards, Everly spotted a black BMW parked by the roadside and looked around. Once certain no one she knew was around, she entered the back seat of the car.
Marcus sat in the back seat, dressed in a black suit. His legs were casually crossed as he leaned against the seat, looking at the tablet.
He merely glanced at Everly as she got in the car before saying to the driver, "Let's go."
"Marcus, where are we going?" Everly inquired.
"We're going to Reinland Hospital to take a blood sample before running a paternity test," Marcus explained before taking a contract from the seat pocket in front of him and handing it to Everly.
"This is the contract. If there's no issue, go ahead and sign it."
Everly gulped. "Alright, let me have a look first."
Half an hour later, they arrived at Reinland Hospital's parking lot, where a nurse was already waiting for them.
After Everly handed the signed contract to Marcus, the nurse came over to the car and guided her through the staff passage to get her blood drawn. After that, the nurse led Everly to the director's office before walking away.
Aside from Augustus and Camille, who was in jail, everyone else from the Chime family was present in the office. Everyone seemed to have different opinions about the situation, and the atmosphere was rather tense.
The sight of Everly entering the office made Jessica ask Philip with reddened eyes.
"Do we really have to do this?
Camille is already in prison. As long as she's a Chime, the guards there won't make things too tough for her. If we announce to the public that she's not a Chime, won't she struggle for the rest of her days?"
Philip said nothing, but Priscilla exclaimed aggressively, "If she hadn't been so vain back then, would we have ended up where we are today?" Although they had cut ties with Camille back then and allowed her to go to prison for the consequences of her actions, the incident still left a stain on the Chime family's reputation.
The stain had caused the shares of Chime Pharmaceutical to continue plummeting. Their competitors used the scandal to destroy the Chimes' reputation even further.
Philip had racked his brain to come up with a solution for the problem. He even engaged in various PR strategies, but the results were not to his liking.
Besides, many even compared them to Youngworth Miracle Clinic, which seemed capable of healing all kinds of illnesses, in Jedburgh. For the first time in a century, the Chime family's reputation had hit rock
bottom.
In the end, Priscilla was the one who came up with this crazy plan by referring to the Hera-and-Giselle fiasco at the Killian family, which became sensationalized news some time ago.
The Chimes wanted to make a public announcement that Camille was actually adopted, and Everly was the true daughter of the Chime family.
"Since we've already cut ties with her, we should go all the way. This will be her last contribution to the Chime family!" Philip slowly answered. Jessica shook her head, unable to accept that reason. "No! Aren't there any other ways?"
"This is the best way. Not only can we salvage our ruined reputation, but we can also take revenge for Camille as well!" Philip comforted her. Everly was one of the best herbalists in Jedburgh, and she was also Youngworth Miracle Clinic's right-hand woman.
Youngworth Miracle Clinic usually administered acupuncture and helped prepare medicinal meals as part of their treatment for their patients. These two usually went hand in hand.
If Everly stood on the Chimes' side, that would be a big blow to Youngworth Miracle Clinic.
Moreover, Everly had requested their help before, wanting them to set her up with Bernard. It just so happened that the Chime family did not want to give up on their marriage alliance with the Killians. Thus, Priscilla contacted Linda.
