Everly's heartbeat began to pick up its pace as she read the message.

She immediately looked up to check her surroundings. Seeing that there was no one around, she exhaled a sigh of relief. However, her heart was still racing, while her hand that held the phone was trembling uncontrollably.

"You can't betray Hera and Mrs. Jones!"

"I can always take back whatever I've given you!"

Wayne's reminder and Hera's words from before kept coming to mind. The voices argued endlessly, but there was no clear winner.

Everly tried her best to recall everything Hera had done for her, but she could not forget Bernard's handsome face.

At the same time, Everly heard sounds coming from the yard. She took a few steps forward and happened to see Bernard holding Hera's hand. They were happily chatting while walking out from the eastern wing, heading in the direction of the western wing.

The sight made her extremely jealous. Bernard only seemed to smile whenever he was with Hera. But Everly also wanted him to smile at her as well. "Oh, Everly! Why are you standing behind the door? You frightened me." At that moment, Isla, who had just returned, walked through the door and jumped in fright upon seeing Everly.

Everly also came to her senses in shock. She put her phone away and casually replied, "I... I was about to go to the washroom."

Isla was slightly perplexed as she peered inside, "Is the washroom here not working?"

"Ah, yeah. Seems like it," Everly carelessly answered before noticing the formula in Isla's hands. "Is that a new formula?"

The mention of the formula distracted Isla right away, and she replied, "No. Are you done collecting the medicinal ingredients for the formula for the fourth patient, Emily Garcia?"

"Not yet. What's the matter?"

Isla hurriedly answered, "That's

great! The patient is allergic to dandelion root, so Mrs. Jones substituted it with milk thistle. Here's the new formula, so don't mix it up. The patient will be here tomorrow afternoon to take the medicine."

Everly reached for the formula. "Alright, I'll handle it."

After Isla left, Everly cast the formula on the table carelessly before taking out her phone again. She took a deep breath as she made her decision and texted Marcus, "When will it begin?"

After sending the message, Marcus did not reply immediately. So, Everly picked up the formula on the table and continued to gather the ingredients. Five minutes later, she finally received a WhatsApp notification. She immediately placed the medicinal ingredients aside to check her phone.

Marcus: "Make sure you're free around 2:00 pm tomorrow. I'll come pick you up. We'll speak more by then."

Everly's heart started racing as she replied, "Sure thing, Marcus." She also added a cute emoji behind the message.

After some time, she finally put

away her phone since Marcus did not say anything else. She continued gathering the ingredients based on the formula, completely unaware that she had picked up the old formula for Emily's medicine.

The next day, after finishing lunch around noon, Everly asked Catherine, who was about to take a nap, if she could take leave. "Mrs. Jones, I need to take leave for the afternoon and go out for a while. I've already handed the medicine to Sarah," Everly said.

Isla and Sarah were the two nurses

working at the clinic. Usually, after they finished tending to the patients, Isla would learn acupuncture from Catherine while Hera would guide Sarah in preparing the medicine.

The two were eager to learn and also picked up things very quickly. Catherine was fine with Everly handing the task to Sarah, but she found it strange that Everly kept asking to take leave recently.

"Is something going on?" Catherine couldn't help but ask.
