Hera walked over to Bernard, whose laptop was playing a crucial part in the surveillance footage at the time it all happened.

In the footage, Everly left the stairway in a hurry.

When the footage ended, Bernard closed the window and opened Douglas' chatbox. He proceeded to play the other footage Douglas sent him.

All the footage was taken from Nightless Haven. There was one where Everly entered the bar with Marcus, and another where Wayne followed a group of staff to give out the wine. Then, Everly walked out of one of the rooms and pulled Wayne along with her.

What happened next was shown in the first video Hera saw, where Everly left the stairway.

There were no cameras in the stairway, so no one knew what happened there. Even so, it was highly likely that Everly played a part in causing Wayne's concussion.

Hera watched the footage where Everly entered the bar with Marcus again. Everly was wearing a branded dress and accessories. Apparently, she had been leading quite a good life after leaving the clinic.

Hera didn't stop Everly from leaving back then. However, if Everly really hurt Hera's friends or family, Hera would not let things slide.

Nicholas also came over to watch the footage. He sighed in relief because the part where he had a woman in his arms wasn't included in the footage. It never crossed his mind that Bernard would investigate this entire incident so thoroughly in such a short time. Meanwhile, Nicholas had been doing nothing but standing and waiting here in the corridor.

This wouldn't do. How could he let Bernard take the spotlight?

Nicholas had to do something to prove that he could be of help at such times.

"What do we do now? Do you need me to bring Everly over?" he asked, rolling up his sleeves eagerly.

Hera simply yawned while Bernard checked the time, neither of them answering the question.

It was already midnight. Bernard turned off his laptop and said, "It's late. We should head back and get some sleep. We can discuss this tomorrow." Nicholas glanced at his watch. What a party pooper Bernard was!

"It's only 12:30 am! The night's still young. What are you doing to do heading back this early?" Nicholas mumbled.

"Only someone as single and available as you need to come out at this hour," Bernard stated plainly.

Nicholas snorted, annoyed. "As if you aren't single "

He had barely finished speaking when Bernard hooked an arm around Hera's waist. To Nicholas' surprise, Hera didn't seem to resist at all.

If it were Nicholas' arm, she'd poke him with all the needles she had until he resembled a porcupine!

Then, it dawned on him. He yelped, "Didn't you say you two broke up?"

A frown formed on Bernard's face at those words. Just how many people did Hera tell?

Bernard made a mental note to quickly register their marriage. That way, there'd be fewer scumbags eyeing Hera.

"Shush! The patients here need rest. You're too loud," Hera warned. "Bernard and I got back together."

On second thought, she added, "Since you're so free, Nicholas, you can stay and keep watch tonight."

Nicholas and Wayne seemed to be good friends. Hera knew they often played basketball together. Having Nicholas look after Wayne would be much better than having a stranger stay and take care of him.

Nicholas wasn't pleased with that. He cursed, "Who do you think I am? How dare you ask me to take care of your bodyguard!"

"You don't need to," said Bernard. He unlocked his phone and made a call. "Douglas, send someone over-"

"Fine! I'll stay!" Nicholas blurted, still

fuming, If Bernard hired someone to

take care of Wayne, it'd make Nicholas seem like a useless fool who couldn't be of help.

Nicholas continued blurting expletives as he entered the ward while Hera watched him speechlessly.

On their journey back home, Hera was so exhausted that she fell asleep after she sank into the passenger seat.

When she was in a light sleep, she

felt a strong pair of hands around her, lifting her up from the seat

Then came the gentle voice of a man saying, "We're here, sweetie."

A groggy Hera simply wrapped her arms around his neck. She leaned against his shoulder and continued to sleep.

Soon, she felt Bernard putting her down and heard the gushing of water. He then came back to help her remove her clothes. Slightly annoyed, Hera mumbled, "No... "

"Be good," said Bernard, trying to coax her. "You should shower first."

"No... I'll shower tomorrow," muttered Hera as she pushed him away. Exhausted, she didn't have much energy. She felt limp in his arms.

"No way. You were at the hospital just now. There's lots of bacteria there. You need to shower before you sleep."

Hera clucked her tongue. Bernard was such a clean freak.

He was so persistent that she couldn't object anymore, so she stopped struggling and simply let him help her with showering.

But as time passed, the atmosphere started to change.
