Waited For The Luna -
Chapter 38
When the weekend came we drove to the pack straight after my shift. It was a good thing that my off would be tomorrow. After 3 hours we were in the pack. I’ve noticed how heavy security was. There were new guards all around the territory and the training was more rigid. I spent the whole day in the packhouse observing while Luka was busy training the new guards.
I tried looking into his office but I didn’t found anything unusual. Even his laptop was mostly just surveillance in the area and business. When I went out I bumped into a very familiar face in the hallway.
“Hello, Cross.” He greeted me with his low voice, how they all greeted me in high school.
“Beta.” I slightly bowed. I haven’t spoken to him since I moved back. I didn’t want things to be extremely awkward between the two of us.
“You’re always so formal. So you’re playing house with Luka now? He rejected you, Bellamy. You don’t serve that.” He said gritting his teeth. “I love him like a brother and respect him as my alpha. But I’m not giving you up.” Eric never leaves time to ponder on his thoughts. Always straightforward. Always going for the main course skipping the starters. “If you choose me—” I cut him off before he could say anything further.
“I don’t need to choose Eric. He’s my mate. It’ll only be him. I’m sorry.” I said. I didn’t know why Eric suddenly feels an attraction towards me. Was he getting impatient waiting for his mate? Or is it another game by the moon goddess? I swear, moon goddess if I don’t get anything good out of all this torture…
“You’re just gonna forgive him that easily? You almost died.”
“You almost raped me if he didn’t come. You locked me in classrooms. You threw away my lunch. You slapped me on the cheek one too many times. Insulted me! I can go on. But I forgave you. Stop being a hypocrite, telling me who I should and shouldn’t forgive. Because of there is anyone more unforgivable than Luka, that would be you.” I was holding back all of these thoughts by I had to say it before he crosses the line.
“I already said I’m sorry Bellamy. “
“He already said his, Eric. I’m not leaving him.”
“Just try Bellamy.”
With how persistent he is, I don’t think his feelings for me are genuine. He finally found something he thought he could win over Luka but even in relationships, he felt like he was still behind Luka. It felt like he doesn’t want to lose this one. He is loyal to his pack and alpha and loved Luka as a brother without a question, but his ego as a man tells him that he couldn’t just lose and let me go.
“Eric, I would be fooling you if I were to. You’ll replace your mate someday and you’ll have to be available to accept her.” Despite years Eric hasn’t found his mate yet. That’s because he’s never encountered her. This is why most wolves visit other packs to replace their mates, especially Alphas and Betas. It still isn’t impossible to meet her despite the year since all wolves meet their mates at least once in their life.
“But—” He was suddenly cut off by someone of authority.
“Eric? ” Luka then walked towards us and held my waist protectively.
“We were just talking Luka, you don’t have to worry. Right, Eric?” Luka then walked close to Eric.
“I’m letting her go because you’re my brother.” Eric said.
“I actually need you to take Bellamy back home tonight. Will, you do that for me?” So something really is going on. Luka then faced me. Eric excused himself and left us alone.
“What’s wrong Luka?” I asked, he tried to touch my face but I backed away.
“I need to stay here tonight. I can’t fill you in now, but you have to go with Eric he’ll protect you. Will speak once I get home. I just need you to trust me.”
I didn’t reply much since Luka was in a hurry. Luka and Eric never went together in battles or trips. If Luka was in trouble, Eric will be leading a second group. If Luka was away, Eric will need to take authority and protect the pack as he is of slightly the same strength as Luka. And if Luka perishes, Eric is next in line to be Alpha.
I knew that sending Eric with me meant that our lives is in danger. He could’ve just sent a low-ranking guard to drive me home, but no. He had to send his second in command and most trusted man to protect me. Without wasting any second he escorted me to the car where Eric was waiting. I didn’t want to protest since I knew how deeply dangerous things were getting.
When I jumped in the passenger seat, I rolled down the windows and leaned my forehead to Luka’s.
“Everything will be okay.” He assured kissing my forehead. “I know. You’ll come home. You’ll see me tomorrow, right?” I told him without a hint of worry in my tone. As his partner, it wasn’t just him he should give me strength. We’re both in this together now. “I will. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Eric then drove as fast as he can. I looked back and saw Luka getting farther as we departed.
“What’s happening Eric?” I asked.
“Luka plans to lure the rogues by bringing you to the pack. Since he sprays you with scent-blocking mist they wouldn’t be able to track us without seeing you. ” I didn’t even know Luka did that. He must have done it in my sleep.
“How serious is it Eric?”
“Don’t worry Bellamy, if they have the strength and resources to attack they would’ve stepped out of the dark and seized the pack a long time ago.” Eric was speaking sense. If they wanted me they could’ve tracked me down a long time ago and would’ve been able to abduct me after spending the night in the pack. However, it is still dangerous. With how serious Luka was, Eric is probably just trying to comfort me. I then just leaned on my seat and prayed to the goddess.
As we were nearing Phoenix, Eric’s mood suddenly seemed more alert. A few moments after someone hit our back. With Eric’s great driving skills, he was able to counter most of the bumps and as the other revved up to hit us harder, Eric then went down and shot the car’s wheels with his gun.
He told me to hide the whole time. His car was tinted and the seat covered my body well. The only way for the rogue to catch me was to see me in front. Eric then got down and fought 3 rogues. He killed two of them but the other got hold of his gun and shot him. He was shot in the arm and he quickly tackled the rogue on the ground and broke his neck.
We were in a dark part of the road thankfully.
Eric then put all the bodies back in the car and rolled them down the river nearby. He then walked towards the car but fell down on his knees. That’s when I remembered he was shot.
