Waited For The Luna
Chapter 49

“I called the other day about this bitemark” he frowned and then escorted me into the house. The place was like a retreat place. Adorned with plants and vegetation all over. There were a lot of wards and a few patients like me and nurses who took care of them. It was a mixture of medicine and healing arts. There were doctors and nurses as well as healers who practices potion making and hexes.

“Hello, child.” Alli welcomed me, he was the head of the institution. He was in his 60’s and practiced supernatural healing on every creature. This place was built by Alli’s grandfather an alpha who loves medicine and healing. He dedicated his life to turning his pack into a place of retreat and learning. His father then opened the doors to other werewolves and creatures who needs healing. This was their way of researching and learning as well. Alli continued their legacy and turned the place into an institution exclusive only for magical beings. The place is protected by an invisible barrier hiding it from the human world and creatures who would want to steal their studies.

After a little chat about medicine, I told him the reason I was here.

“So you died when your mate marked you?” He asked.

“He said I stopped breathing, and that my heart was no longer beating” I replied.

“Dr. Cross, I don’t think the mate bond saved you. It sounds like you’ve become half-immortal.”

“You mean like a… vampire?” I asked. But it was impossible, the sun doesn’t hurt me and I didn’t crave b***d.

“A hybrid. The magic brought you back to life” He said and I widened my eyes.

“That’s impossible. Luka said he sucked the venom out.”

“We’re not sure if he extracted it all completely. A few amounts may have been left. Transforming into a full hybrid requires extreme black magic. Your body seems to be rejecting this magic so you haven’t transformed into one completely. My theory is because you were marked by the alpha, the mate bond activated, and is what’s stopping the hybrid’s magic from influencing you. Thus making your body weak.

“I have to be honest this can eventually lead to death if left without treatment.”

“What should we do?” I asked cluelessly

“We have to extract the hybrid venom from your b***d completely… since this is a fairly new procedure. But don’t worry I’ve had a few successful extractions in the past. We’ll have to produce an antidote that would flush all the venom out of your system.”

“Please do everything you can.”

“You’ll have to stay here for a while, I don’t know how long. But rest assured you’ll be treated well. As for the payment, you may speak with River in the reception area.”

I then underwent a physical check-up. River, then assisted me to my room. It didn’t feel like a hospital ward. It feels like I was on a vacation on a tropical island. I settled down my stuff and rested for a while. I had to wait for 3 days before the results were out. Alli invited me into his office, he seemed dismayed.

“I’m afraid I have bad news…” He paused before continuing “You are with child.” He said out of the blue. I was shellshocked I couldn’t move in my seat.

“What?”

“The results of your test came in and it is confirmed.” I sighed and got an ultrasound in the facility. I then found out I was 2 months pregnant. The monitor showed the little alpha that was growing inside me. The attending asked if I wanted to hear the heartbeat and my heart swelled. It was beautiful, I only wish Luka was here to witness this.

“We’ll be home soon with daddy. Just hold on little one.”

After getting the ultrasound results, Alli assisted me back to his office. I had a feeling that this pregnancy would cause a rift in my procedure.

“I’m afraid we’ll have to terminate the pregnancy if you want to go on with the procedure. The antidote I have coaxed contains ingredients that are harmful to the fetus.”

I couldn’t let that happen. I was somehow happy to be pregnant it just came at the wrong time.

“Can’t I let my child be birthed first before I go on with the procedure?” I inquired feeling hopeful.

“We don’t know how long you can last with the venom inside you. Death may be possible even before you’ve given birth. Now that you’re in a more vulnerable state, taking the potion upon birth may overwhelm you. The best way is to terminate the pregnancy and go on with the procedure.”

“Alli, please. I can hold on. I can’t let my baby die even if I do die.” I cried hard. I couldn’t bring myself to hurt my child. But I was alone. Being away from Luka will weaken me hence I need to tell him one of these days.

He respected my decision. Alli found a way to extract the venom little by little. He was using acupuncture-like needles that seep the venom out. It was a long process. He thinks that this will help slow down the transformation process and allow me to buy some time and drink the potion once I’ve given birth.

The baby was protected in the amniotic sac. I took potions that helped strengthen his hold in me so he wouldn’t be affected by the venom.

By this time I was 5 months along, weak and skinny. Alli said the fetus isn’t compatible with my state since it possesses supernatural strength. He was convincing me to consider my abortion but I loved feeling my child in me. The thought of it is unacceptable to me.

I was having transfusions and was hooked on an IV since I was throwing up all the time, I also suffered from anemia.

River became my friend here. He was assisting me in morning walks and helped me with my meals. Nurses would come in and help me bathe. It was like I was the facility’s most delicate patient.

“You should call the alpha and tell him to come here,” River suggested. I forced myself not to call home since I didn’t want anyone to see me in my sorry state. I wanted to come home healthy, but the idea of that was slowly out of my control. “You’re his mate. You’re meant to stay together.”

“Whatever I do now is no longer up to him. We’re not– We’re not meant to be together. The moon goddess gifted me with knowledge, the first time I left Luka it was because I was driven with passion and she punished me for it. My soul was broken and I had reverted to worldly ways to deal with it. The second time I forced Luka to reject me and I was in extreme pain because of it. When I finally decided to accept him, I was abducted and mated to a hybrid, causing my b***d to be poisoned. When I thought that everything for once was finally okay, I found out that I wouldn’t be able to go through with the procedure. But I can never bring myself to kill my child. What kind of mother would I be. How will be able to love the children I’ll maybe have in the future if I killed my first child. ” I replied. “You see River, this is my fate. The Moon Goddess has played with me time and time again.”

“I may not know what you’ve been through but I only know one thing now. If you love him give him the chance to be here with you. Don’t do things that will hurt him in the future. You have to call him, this is his child too and he needs his father. I’ve seen a lot of regrets and pain in this place, I just don’t want you to be the next. Let him see you in pain, let him see you cry. If you do die then at least he’s here in your last moments. It’s better for him to be with you, the both of you than to not know a thing at all.” River’s word pierced through me. I remember the days when I told Luka that it was okay for him to cry in front of me. That it was okay to leave his alpha facade and be able to rest in my arms. I didn’t have to show him that I was strong all the time.

Realizing that Luka and my family don’t deserve the pain of not knowing if I die, I had to do it for my child. At least we can be a family in the last few months. I then fished out my phone and logged into my messenger account. Luka was on top leaving me messages every day. Dad and Noah were extremely worried too. I couldn’t bring myself to call Luka or dad so I called Noah first.
