Wedding Day Vampire -
Chapter 62
“So, where are you going to spend the night?” Sandra asked as they were leaving the cemetery.
“Well, I have to return.”
“Return where?”
“Back to where I came from.”
“You’re going back? You didn’t even tell me where you went in this first place Joana, I’ve told you everything you needed to know about grandma Jen and Andrew, now please tell me where you went to.”
“You won’t understand, Sandra.”
“Are you really my friend? If you were my friend then you’d tell me.”
“Sandra, I’m sorry.”
Sandra wasn’t moved by her apology, and Joana knew that at this point, there was only one thing left to do.
Joana walked over to where Sandra stood and then looked into her eyes and wiped out the memory of her being here. She knew that Sandra was the only person who would care enough about reporting her appearance to the police when she disappeared again, and she didn’t want that to happen.
“I love you, Sandra,” she told her, but it was time for this whole town to forget about Joana. Even though wiping her best friend’s memory made her feel bad, she didn’t have much of a choice as she felt things would be better if Sandra didn’t know she came here at all.
Sandra was still in a daze as she hoisted her up on her back and took her home. She felt so light and Joana didn’t have a problem carrying her from the front of the cemetery to the neighborhood. She left Sandra on her patio and told her to walk into the house. She would regain consciousness with no memory of what happened as soon as she entered.
She thought about Andrew and thought of whether to give him a punishment for what he did, but decided he wasn’t worth wasting her time on. She had other things to do, the first of which was to apologize to Derick.
She walked to a deserted place where no one would see her, unfolded her wings and began to fly back towards the castle. The sun was already coming up when she reached and she was lucky to have escaped the heat in those few seconds.
Dana was waiting for her in the hall when she arrived.
“Why didn’t you tell us before you left? And did it work? Did they accept it?”
Joana seemed a bit confused at first by the questions she was asking until she realized she was talking about the sacrifice.
“Oh, I haven’t done it yet,” she said.
“You haven’t? Oh, then where did you go then?”
“It’s a long story Dana, but first I need to replace Derick, where is he?”
Dana sighed. She didn’t know how to break the news to Joana, but if telling her would make her change her mind about leaving, then she would.
“I’m sorry Joana, we all tried to convince Derick that he was making a crazy decision. Your absence left an impact on all of us but he took it too hard. He headed to the supreme council this morning to exchange his immortality.”
“I don’t understand, he wants to become human?”
“No Joana, not for mortality, he wants to exchange it for death, like my father did.”
***
Joana flew as fast as she could to the heart of mother nature, where she had entered the presence of the council of five. She never imagined that Derick would do something so crazy, why would he ever risk his life all because she was leaving? Was this the first time she had left him? Why did he have to act so crazy now? Why couldn’t he just wait to confirm if she had truly offered the sacrifice? She hoped he would still be alive to answer all these questions by the time she arrived.
She reached the middle of the heart not quite long after and began to look for him. She just hoped he hadn’t entered yet. She went towards the stones remembering how she entered at first, by standing in the middle and uniting the gem pieces on each of them. She checked if the gem pieces were on the stones but they weren’t. Derick had already summoned their presence, and was probably already exchanging his life for death by now, all for nothing.
Do you know the worst part about how Joana felt? It was that she couldn’t do anything to stop him. If Derick died, she would remain a single lonely vampire with regret for the rest of her life, and she knew she deserved it.
