Back to the present…

Reading about Marylin’s experience with the gem piece made Joana remember something important. She quickly dropped the book and hurried over to her bag where she had gathered her own set of ingredients. She emptied the contents in it and lo and behold, amongst the ingredients in her bag, the gem piece was there. She remembered that she didn’t put the pieces back in their normal positions on the five stones because of the pack of wolves she encountered after leaving the supreme council’s presence.

If Derick had truly gone to the supreme council to take his life, he wouldn’t have been able to summon their presence without this gem piece she had in her hand. Realizing this made her heart skip a beat, if Derick was still alive, then where could he have possibly gone to? Where could he have been all this while?

She rushed out of her room and went to meet Edmund in his quarters, Hillary and Dana had gone hunting, so he was the only one there.

“Oh, Joana, its good to see you are ok again, is there anything I can help you with?”

“Yes Edmund, there is, I think Derick might still be alive,” she said immediately.

“He’s been gone for five days Joana, what makes you say so?”

“This,” she held out the gem piece and showed it to him. “One can only summon the presence of the supreme council with this gem piece, I read it in the books. This gem piece belongs to the five stones that surrounds the heart of mother nature, after I left the presence of the council, I didn’t put the pieces back in their positions when I left because I was distracted by a pack of wolves.”

“So, if Derick is still alive like you say, then where do you think he went?”

“I don’t know myself, but I know someone who might, that’s why I need your help.”

“Ok, so what do you need me to do?”

“The other day when we discussed, you mentioned something about entering the spirit world without being there physically.”

“Yes, I did, by meditation, me and my former coven members used to do it a lot, but how would that help in replaceing Derick, do you think he went to the spirit world?”

“No, but the evergreen river is in the spirit world and I think she can help me, I need to go and see her there so she can give me the answers my heart seeks.”

“Do you think it will work?”

“I don’t know, but we have to at least try. I don’t want to have to go all the way to the north pole when I can just travel there now.”

“Ok then,” Edmund said. “Let’s give it a try.”

He locked the doors and the windows and cleared the center of the room. He then arranged some candles in a circle there and he and Joana then sat in the middle of those lighted candles.

“So, I will not enter into the spirit world with you,” he said to her. “I will just open the door for you to enter, and please make sure you do not spend too much time in there. I can only leave the door open for you for so long and if your spirit fails to come out of there before then, it will be trapped in the spirit world forever.”

Joana gulped, she knew she was taking a risk by going this way, but if that was all it took to replace Derick, then she didn’t mind at all.

Edmund held her two hands in his while they were still seated on the floor, they both closed their eyes and then he began to recite some incantations.

O ye world of the spirit,

Grant us entrance through your gates,

We wish to see the evergreen river,

And we mean no harm.

Joana closed her eyes, and within seconds, she was in the spirit world. She knew she had limited time, so she had to replace the evergreen river fast.
