Chapter 0620
As night fell, the moonlight shone bright and clear. A gust of cold wind blew.
Miranda walked to the main entrance of the lab and looked back for a moment. Then, she said,
Transcend, turn off the lights.”
A robotic voice sounded out of nowhere, “Miranda, please verify authorization.”
When she looked up, the voice replied, “Authorization verified. Turning off the lights.”
Three seconds later, all the lights in the lab went out, plunging Miranda into darkness. When she walked out, the door closed and locked by itself automatically
A smart lab… How nice!
She took out her phone to call for a ride when she caught sight of a Porsche parked on the side of the road. The car door opened, and Sam stepped out of the car.
Miranda was surprised. “Why haven’t you left yet?”
Sam had visited in the afternoon to check on the delivery of the lab equipment. He had come in person to ask about something that could have been easily discussed over the phone.
“I also came to check out your new lab,” he had told her.
Miranda’s eyes had lit up at his words, and she had eagerly given him a tour of the place. The tour had taken almost an hour to conclude.
Sam had realized that she still had much work left to do, so he took his leave. Miranda thought he’d ‘already gone, but she didn’t expect…
Sam remarked, “I was just waiting for you.”
“Actually, you didn’t have to do that. I-” Miranda wanted to make things clear between them, but Sam wouldn’t listen.
He cut her off and said, “Get in the car. It’s getting late
She had no choice but to thank him.
Sam’s lips curved into a smile. “That’s better. You should say more stuff that I like to hear.”
With that, he opened the car door on the passenger side for her,
On the way, Sam asked, “What was the name of the smart system you mentioned earlier?”
“Transcend.”
“Who named it?”
“Jack.”
Does it have any special meaning?”
“He hopes that it would help us transcend boundaries, above and beyond.”

“I didn’t expect Jack to have such a way with words.
Miranda pulled out her phone. “I’m going to record that and send it to him.”
“Go ahead, I was complimenting him. If you missed it, I can say it again.”
Miranda didn’t respond. As expected, no one could be thicker–skinned than Sam.
20 minutes later, the car stopped at the entrance of the alley. “We’re here.”
Miranda unbuckled her seatbelt. “Thank you, Mr. Cooper. You saved me the fare again.”
“I can help you save the fare anytime as long as you wish. How about it? Will you consider hiring me as your free driver long–term?” Sam teased.
Miranda shook her head. “I won’t consider it.”
“Why?”
“There’s no such thing as a free meal in this world. If there is, it’s definitely because…”
Sam raised an eyebrow. “Because of what?”
“Because I’d be the other person’s meal.”
Sam chuckled softly. “You’re getting smarter, huh?”
“It’s only natural to remember after getting burned once,” she said.
“But you shouldn’t paint everyone with the same brush, right?”
Miranda thought for a moment. “In my opinion, I’d rather err on the side of caution. So, I don’t mind going ahead and using that brush.”
This time, it was Sam who was at a loss for words. “Do you have to be so strict?”
Miranda replied, “As a researcher, we have to be meticulous.”
Sam was speechless once more.
“Here, this is for you.” Miranda took an envelope from her bag and handed it to him.
“What’s this?”
“An invitation. The lab wouldn’t have been completed so quickly without your help, Mr. Cooper. How could we hold the opening ceremony without inviting the man behind it all?”
The two construction teams really put in hard work and shortened the original construction time by at least a third.
Sam took the envelope and opened it. “Why is it red?”
“Hmm, I thought it looked striking.”
“Anyone else would think you were giving me a wedding invitation.”
Miranda answered, “A wedding invitation works too. Isn’t celebrating the completion of the lab a happy occasion?”

Sam nodded. “Alright, I’ll accept your invite. I’ll be there on time tomorrow!”
