Whispers Turn to Whimpers: Could He Ever Change? -
Chapter 724
Sherilyn, holding Jenna tight against her chest with Sophia following closely, stepped out of their apartment and into the crisp morning air. "Mommy, where's Mr. Gilbert? Didn't he say he'd come today?" Jenna's voice was hoarse, her tiny sobs breaking the quiet morning.
"Shh, baby, it's okay," Sherilyn reassured, fighting back her own tears. Gilbert hadn't shown up again that morning, and it was starting to wear her down. He had forced his way into their lives, insisting on being a part of it, and now, when they truly needed him, he was nowhere to be found.
Rushing to the hospital, Jenna's cries filled the car, "Mommy, Mr. Gilbert..."
Once there, Sherilyn handed Jenna to Sophia, "Stay with her for the blood test. I need to make a call."
Without waiting for a response, Sherilyn dialed Gilbert's number. "Gilbert, it's Jenna. She's got a fever, and we're at the hospital. You need to come now."
"I'm on my way," Gilbert's voice was tense over the phone, and without another word, he was out the door, leaving everything behind.
On a nearby hospital bed, Caroline
watched the scene unfold with icy eyes. Gilbert was leaving because of a phone call from Sherilyn? She couldn't let them be together Gilbert was all she had left. Narugi

Hearing his daughter's cries, Gilbert made his decision. "I'm on my way, Sherilyn. Tell Jenna I'll be there soon."
Driving as fast as he could, Gilbert
arrived at the hospital to replace Jenna in Sherilyn's arms, terrified of the
needle. "Mr. Gilbert!" she cried,
reaching for him.
"It's okay, princess," Gilbert comforted her, taking her into his arms. "The shot will make you feel better, I promise."
In that moment, the weight of his world was in his arms, and nothing else mattered.
