"Jenna, sweetie, I'm right here. I'm not going anywhere, okay?" "Okay, Mr. Gil."

Gilbert, ever the comforting presence, gently soothed Jenna, helping her through the scary moment of getting her shot. The exhaustion from crying, compounded by the discomfort of being unwell, soon had her eyelids drooping, her little form succumbing to sleep. From the side, Sherilyn watched silently, her anxiety ebbing away as Jenna's breathing evened out, the frustration that had been simmering within her cooling down.

Finally turning his attention from Jenna, Gilbert looked up, his concern evident. "What's the situation?"

"Viral infection," Sherilyn explained, her arms crossed, her gaze distant.

"Jenna's immune system isn't as strong as other kids. If we don't manage this properly, it's hard to predict and control what could happen next."

Hearing this, Gilbert's expression darkened, worry etching deeper lines into his face. After a moment, he murmured, "She'll get through this. She has to."

Whether he was reassuring Sherilyn or himself was unclear.

His pocket vibrated then, the sound barely noticeable. But Sherilyn, standing close, saw it and her brow furrowed, an instinctive annoyance flaring within her. She knew it had to be Caroline. Gilbert glanced at Sherilyn, then carefully reached for his phone while still cradling Jenna.

It was the hospital's number, from the nurse's station.

A flicker of anxiety crossed his face as he hesitantly answered, keeping his voice low to avoid waking Jenna. "Hello?"

"Mr. Johnson! It's chaos here! Ms. Bennett... she's threatening to jump from her window!"

What?!

Startled, Gilbert's voice was a mix of shock and urgency. "Understood, I'm on my way!"

Ending the call, he turned to Sherilyn, his eyes pleading. "Sherilyn... I need to go there. Jenna's asleep, and I'll only be gone for a short while..."

"And how long is 'a short while'?" Sherilyn cut him off, her gaze icy. "You promised Jenna you'd be here for her!"

"Sherilyn, I really have to..." Gilbert was torn, visibly stressed. "It's Caroline, she's..."

"What about her?"

Before he could explain, Sherilyn interjected sharply, "I'm coming with you. I want to see what drama she's cooking up this time."

Glancing at Sophia, she instructed, "Sophia, take care of Jenna for us, we'll be back soon."

"Of course," Sophia responded, taking Jenna into her arms, her nerves on edge.

Sherilyn strode out first, then paused to look back at Gilbert, urging him, "Are you coming or not?" "Sherilyn..."

With no time to waste and Sherilyn insistent on joining him, Gilbert had no choice but to hurry after her.

Upon arriving and bursting through the hospital room door, they found Caroline perched precariously on the windowsill, her frame swaying dangerously. Sherilyn couldn't help but scoff at the sight. Drama, indeed. A suicide attempt?

"What's going on here?" Gilbert exploded, his anger directed at the nurses and caregivers.

"How could you let her get on the windowsill?"

"Mr. Johnson, Ms. Bennett tricked

us..." The nurse tried to explain, her voice filled with distress. Caroline's temper was well-known throughout the ward.

Initially, Caroline had asked to be moved to a wheelchair. Then, seizing a moment when the staff

was distracted, she maneuveredet

herself to the windowsill, using her arms, since her legs were immobile, to lift herself onto the precarious perch.
