"Heh, heh..."

After listening to the nurse, Sherilyn couldn't help but snicker, "Looks like she's got a death wish."

"Sherilyn..."

Gilbert suddenly turned to her, his breathing momentarily heavy.

"What are you looking at me for?" Sherilyn lifted an eyelid, her tone ice-cold, "Maybe you should look at her instead. She's the one knocking on death's door." From the windowsill, Caroline turned at the noise.

She caught Gilbert's gaze and tears immediately cascaded down her cheeks, "Why are you here? Thought you didn't care about me anymore?" "Caroline..."

Gilbert tensed up, taking cautious steps towards her, "You've got it all wrong. I do care... Just come down from there, and we can talk this through, okay?" "No! Don't come any closer!"

She screamed shrilly as he approached.

"You're lying! You've always been lying!"

Pointing accusingly at Sherilyn nearby, "You went to her! You only have her in your heart..."

Sobbing, she shook her head vehemently.

"Francis left me for Rebecca White, and you, you're leaving me for Sherilyn..."

Suddenly, she glared at Gilbert, raising her voice.

"Gilbert, I became like this because of you, and now even you don't want me... I'm just a burden... I don't want to live anymore!" "Then go ahead and die!"

Sherilyn's clear voice rang out as she stepped forward, confronting Caroline.

"What?" Caroline blinked, dumbfounded, "What did you say?"

"Hmph."

Sherilyn smirked coldly, "You said you didn't want to live, right? Then die!" "Sherilyn!"

Gilbert extended his arm to hold her back, his brows furrowed in a reprimand, "Don't..."

"Let go!"

Sherilyn shook off his arm without glance and stared down Caroline strange light twinkling in her eyes.

An indescribable emotion churned within her.

Her words grew harsher, "You're right, he doesn't want you! He just left you to replace me! Hurts, doesn't it? Well, go on then!"

She pointed towards the window, "Jump! The world would be a quieter place without you!"

"You..." Caroline was speechless, her body trembling uncontrollably.

"Jump!"

Sherilyn suddenly shouted, "What are you waiting for?"

"Ah! Ahhh..."

Caroline screamed, clutching her head in agony, "Fine, fine, I'll grant you your wish..."

With that, she gave Gilbert one last look.

A sorrowful smile, "Gilbert, I'm leaving..."

"No!"

As Caroline's body leaned out the window, Sherilyn only felt a gust of wind rush past her. By the time she came to her senses, Gilbert had already dashed to the window, half his body out in a desperate attempt to save Caroline.

And there was Caroline, dangling from the outer wall, barely held by Gilbert's grasp. "Caroline!" Gilbert's face was a mix of anguish and desperation, "Hold on... Don't let go!" "What are you waiting for? Help them!"

The medical staff and caregivers immediately sprang into action, creating chaos.

"Mr. Johnson, hang in there!"

"We've called the fire department! They're on their way up the exterior wall!"

"Caroline, hold on!"

Sherilyn, arms crossed, watched with a cold gaze, murmuring, "What a tragic pair of star-crossed lovers."

Turning her back, she walked away.
