“It’s complicated, is all. But don’t worry. Trey won’t ever part with you. No matter what.” Grum said with conviction.

“I don’t want to cause problems for him. That is the last thing I want.”

“Like you pointed out, it was your phoenix friend who saved Trey. You got us out of a sticky situation there. You aren’t a problem. If anything, I’d venture to say he needs you.” Grum smiled at her trying to reassure her. “What is going on is nothing for you to worry about. Even if Trey had to abandon everything and move into an isolated area with you, he would. And I would follow him.”

“Even if I am a lesser creature than yourself?” Kailee gave him a crooked smile.

“You are not lesser in any way, Kailee. And I don’t mean to say they are lesser. I’m sorry. I’m just in a bad mood. But I do mean it, I don’t care what comes for you. I am not letting them take you.” Grum’s face drew serious, and he held her gaze.

“I don’t want anyone getting hurt or injured because of me.” Kailee watched as a smile rose over his face.

“And we won’t be parted from you. I don’t have family either Kailee. Well no b***d family. Trey, Lance, and Reggie are family to me. And you are too. Think of me as your older protective brother. I’m not about to let anything happen to my little sister.”

Kailee smiled at him sweetly. “I don’t want to lose my new family either. You guys are all I have. I am a bit nervous that I’m going to end up alone again.”

“You won’t. You have all four of us now Kailee. We are all fond of you. Well Trey is more than fond of you.” Grum chuckled. “I know I can come off as rough and lacking in emotions. That is just because of my upbringing.” His green eyes kept on hers. “But I promise you Kailee, as long as I am alive, you will never be alone.”

“It’s easy to make that promise now. But if things change… if Trey is somehow forced to leave me… I won’t hold you to that promise is all I am saying.”

“My promise is absolute. No matter what. I’ll keep you safe and continue to be your big brother.” Grum cleared his throat. “And that is enough emotion for me. I’ve said my peace.”

Kailee smiled at how uncomfortable he was with his emotions. Well not all of his emotions. He was pretty good at showing his irritation and anger. It was the caring where he needed work. But he went out of his comfort zone to try to put her at ease.

“Thank you, Grum.” She leaned back into her pillows and closed her eyes. She was still tired after the events from yesterday. She grabbed Trey’s pillow that was next to her and pulled it onto her chest. She wrapped her arms around it and hugged it closely. She was able to catch the faintest smell of his scent which relaxed her. She felt her body slink more into the bed as her muscles eased. And soon she was drifting into unconsciousness.

A woman with long flowing silver hair cradled a baby in her arms. The baby was sleeping and swaddled tightly. In the cover of darkness, she carried the baby into a village. The light from a lamp flickered in the darkness and revealed people at the entrance. There were a couple people standing guards and some of them were in werewolf form. They looked up at her as she walked closer. Their eyes glazed over showing they were communicating with someone.

“Please. I need help.” She whispered as tears trickled down her face.

A tall man with broad arms and sculpted muscles walked forward with a tiny, framed woman at his side.

“I am the alpha of this pack. And this is my luna. What sort of help do you need? If it is something we can do for you we will try.”

“Please… take my daughter and raise her as your own. Tell her about who she is and keep her safe.” The woman shifted to reveal the sleeping baby in her arms.

The man looked at the infant and then to the woman at his side. She smiled up at him and nodded. He then looked back to the woman with the child. “What about you?”

“I’m going to put an end to this.” She said sadly. “She must be kept a secret. Her existence must not be known to the outside world. This forest will be her safe haven to grow up in until she comes of age. I know it is a lot to ask. But-”

“It would be our honor to care for her. We will keep her safe. No one here will ever reveal her identity. And we will tell her all about who she is and about you.” The luna said with a small smile.

The woman handed the baby over to the luna. She leaned down and kissed the baby’s forehead. A little creature squirmed from around the blankets. A small fiery chick popped its head up. “This is Sparks. He is her keeper. Sparks, please protect our future.” She rubbed the baby’s forehead as her eyes glistened with tears. “I will leave you in a world with a future. Grow up happy my little one. I love you so much.” She wiped her eyes and took a step backwards. She raised her eyes to the alpha and luna. “Don’t worry, I will succeed. I will save this world from him.” And with that the woman turned and left quickly. Her liquid tears pooling from her eyes as she disappeared into the forest.

A toddler then ran up to the alpha with his arms up.

“Alistair, what are you doing out of bed? You little rascal.” The alpha picked the child up and leaned him over to see the baby girl. “Look, this is your new baby sister, Meera.”

Kailee felt the warm tears running down her face as she opened her eyes. Her bottom l*p was quivering. Her chest was tight and felt constricted. She felt a lump forming in her throat as her nose burned. The liquid continued to creep down her cheeks.

“Kailee, are you hurting? What’s wrong?”

She looked up to see Grum moving over to her side. He was helping her sit up and adjusted the pillows behind her. She could see the evening sun was in descent. She had been asleep for a couple hours and Trey still was not back. She squeezed the pillow in front of her as her fingers continued to shake.

That was not a dream. She already knew that. That was the past. Meera was her mother. Her grandmother had given Meera to the werewolves to be raised. Her eyes widened at the memory. Alistair was the name of the werewolf that had visited her. He was raised alongside her mother. They would be like siblings. Her breathing began to grow rapid in short quick breaths. Her grandmother was going to put an end to something. And she never returned. Her heart rate quickened as she began piecing together this puzzle.

The one who sealed Bane before was killed when she sealed him. She was also a protector of the forest. And whatever she was she was thought to be the last of her kind. This is what she wanted. Which is why she took her daughter to be raised among the werewolves.

Sparks told her she was important. And that they would need her power. Did this mean… Yes, she was pretty sure this meant what she was thinking. That if Bane revived she was someone who had the power to seal him. But if it claimed her grandmother’s life, would it claim hers as well? This would make sense why Bane showed himself to her. He knows of her existence.

“Kailee… Kailee I need you to say something to me. What do you need?” Grum asked as he grabbed onto her hand. He could hear her rapid heart rate and the sound of her fast breathing. Her hand was trembling, and her eyes were wide and anxious. He watched as she shook her head raising the pillow up higher to lean her chin on.

When they mentioned she was going to have to make a choice, was this it? Was her choice how to handle Bane if he returned? What was the choice she would have to make? She tried to think of the information she had. She remembered that they said her mother had made this choice too. But her mother didn’t fight against Bane because he was still sealed. So, what was it? And what was she? She was going to have to get answers now more then ever.

Kailee looked at Grum and wiped the tears from her eyes. “I’m okay. It was just a dream about my mother.” She gave him a small smile. It technically wasn’t a lie. “I wish she was still around.” She bit her bottom l*p and inhaled through her nose. That was also true. She tried not to think about her parents since it made her sad. Now more than ever since she knows why they are no longer with her. It hurt.

“I’m sorry Kailee. I don’t have my parents in my life, but they are still alive I suppose. I’ll tell you about it sometime. I used my circumstances to fuel me forward. It is what drove me into training and getting stronger. It helped me channel my anger for them.” Grum said as a lethal aura grew around him. Just thinking about them started to make him enraged.

Kailee.

Kailee looked around the room looking for the foreign voice that popped into her head.

Get him to leave.

Kailee felt a bit nervous and curious. She looked over at Grum who was staring at his hands. How could she get him to leave her side?

“Um… do you think you could bring me some cold water? My throat feels a bit dry.” She watched as he lifted his gaze up to her. He smiled and nodded.

“I’ll be right back.”

Kailee watched as he got up and left the room. The moment he did she watched as four little creatures hopped down onto the bed from the canopy above her.

“That was close. I thought he was going to eat you!”

“They are so annoying. Such possessive creatures.”

“We need to get her out of here before it comes back.”

“Whoa whoa whoa. Who and what are you guys?” Kailee asked looking at the 4 small… people? They were the size of her hand. And looked like stout tiny people. They were dressed in dark brown slacks with different colors shirts on them.

“First thing is first.” The one with the red shirt said. “Lets get her moved to some place safe.” The other three nodded.

“I’m not really in moving condition.” Kailee said smiling meekly.

The one with the green shirt on smiled up at her. “Don’t worry we know. You just hold still.” They walked around her and formed four equal points making a rectangle shape.

The door began to open and Grum was already coming in with the cup of water. The one with the blue shirt smirked over at him.

“Got ya, SUCKER!” And then the five of them vanished. The loud sound of a tin cup falling onto stone was heard as it clanked on the ground. Water spilled and splattered over the area. The next sound was an incredible loud roar that shook the interior of the whole manor. Kailee had been taken.
