Chapter 41

ALIYAH’S POV

A familiar feeling of eventual doom crept into my body. I was still breathing heavily when we went to Charlotte’s clinic. Reid carried me into his arm, like I was the most fragile thing he would never dare to let go. All I did was leaned my head against his chest, and hoped that everything would be alright.

I shut my eyes and prayed to the Moon Goddess to help me become healthy. I couldn’t afford seeing Reid’s worried face whenever my body felt like giving up, or curling because of the pain attacking every part of me. Guilt flashed through me when I remembered how Reid looked at me earlier as if he was in a terrifying situation. I couldn’t handle it. I knew that if I was only blessed with a good health, things would have been less pain in the a*s for my mate.

“Put her here,” Charlotte commanded Reid and pointed to the bed and then she prepared a table full of medical equipment.

Reid was on the other side of the bed, and I was gripping on his arm, tighter and tighter, and while Charlotte while she started getting my heart rate and b***d pressure.

“Will she be alright?” Reid asked her, but Charlotte didn’t answer, rather proceeded to extract a b***d from my forearm.

My lips quivered, along with my body. I was totally scared at this moment. The pain on my abdomen had faded away but the thought that there was something wrong with me made me feel like I was being haunted by death.

I was so afraid, to the point that another batch of tears streamed down my face. Reid soothed me; pressing his lips on my forehead and patting my back, making me feel that I was not alone in this situation.

Nurses entered the room. Charlotte gave them the vial of my b***d and then after that, she asked for me stand up. She held me on my waist, and put my arm around her shoulder so she could better support me walking.

I whimpered when I felt a stinging pain on my tummy. Biting my lips, I tried hard enough to breathe properly.

“Where are you taking her?” Reid sounded paranoid and then helped Charlotte to support me.

“I need her to pee for additional test,” she told Reid.

He growled in frustration. “Can you tell me what the hell is going on?! Will she be alright?”

“Can you please stay calm and just help us get into the restroom? I assure you I’ll do my best so she’d feel better, Reid,” Charlotte snorted.

As soon as we were in front of the restroom, Charlotte blocked Reid to go further and guided me all by herself. She locked the door and assisted me to sit on the toilet.

“W—What’s wrong with me?” I stuttered as I swallowed the lump in my throat.

She sighed and offered me a thin smile.

“You’re going to be fine, Aliyah. Trust me.” She then took something from the pocket of her lab gown. It was a pouch that had a small item on it. “Now, pee on the hole you see on its right side and then let me know once you’re done.”

I nodded slowly. Charlotte turned her back to give me some privacy. I did what I needed to do and after that, I gave the item to her. She gasped out loud after a few minutes, and then looked down at me with different emotions radiating in her eyes.

“Is… Is there something wrong?” I blinked my tears away.

“N—Nothing, Aliyah. Like I mentioned, you’re going to be fine.” She tried to smile at me but I knew something was bothering her. “Come on, let’s go.”

Reid was waiting outside when Charlotte opened the bathroom door. They assisted me once again and I felt a kind of relief when my back felt the softness of the bed.

“We need to talk outside, Reid.” Charlotte shot Reid a glance.

My heart raced fast as I didn’t like her tone. If I was dying, would it be possible for her to just tell it straight to my face?

Reid looked like he was about to throw a fit. His jaw clenched, eyes burning both in confusion and anger, and his hands were fisted and ready to slam anything once he heard a bad news.

“Tell me now, Charlotte.” He growled.

She shook her head and pocketed both of her hands into her lab gown.

“Not here…”

“Look,” I started that made them glance at me. “I—I know that I’m a bit ignorant but if it’s not too much to ask, please, explain to why I experienced that terrible pain….”

Reid’s face darkened and she got Charlotte a glare. “Explain it to us.”

However, Charlotte shook her head. “I said we’ll talk outside.”

After saying those words, she then walked past him. He took one glance of me, and then said, “I’ll be right back.”

My lips trembled, and all I did was cry.

REID’S POV

“Don’t f**k with my mind and tell me what just happened to Aliyah, Charlotte!”

I grabbed her by the arm that made her turn to me. My worry, as well as my anger, grew deeper every single second that I had to wait for her to speak up about my mate’s condition.

Aliyah was too scared and I hated that I couldn’t do something to make her feel relieved. The only person that could help us in the situation was Charlotte, the pack doctor, who was yet telling me everything she figured out. Damn it!

“Tell me!” I demanded with a growl.

“You better let go of my arm so we could talk properly, Reid…” she said in a serious manner.

I g*****d and did she ask me to do. I found it regretful that I befriended her and the rest of the council members and let them became comfortable with me to the point that they didn’t get scared even if I snarled at them. They were brazen! She, Klaus, Sage, including their mates.

“Now, speak!” I snarled at her.

She looked around; making sure no one was listening to us and then looked up at me as her lips curled into a big smile.

“Are you seriously smiling right now?”

“She’s pregnant!” she declared.

I just stared at her with wide-opened eyes. Suddenly, my heart rate picked up and I wasn’t able to move. It was as if what she told me triggered an explosion of energy within my body.

“Your mate is carrying your child, Reid….”

I drew in a breath; my eyes couldn’t shut as my whole world seemed to have stopped for a moment. Aliyah… my mate… was pregnant?

“W—What are you—”

Charlotte patted my arm that interrupted me from speaking. Her eyes screamed of delight. I stepped back. My hands instantly moved to pull my hair, trying to process everything she said. A few seconds later, I felt hot liquid forming on both sides of my eyes. It was as if something warm washed over me, and all I could feel after that was happiness… no, it was more beyond that.

“Congratulations, Alpha. You will be a dad soon…”
