Why My Mate Cries -
Chapter 42
REID’S POV
Happiness, of all things, took control of my mind and body.
As the leader of the pack, I was taught how to handle any situation, including conflict and battle within and outside the pack. But right now, for the first time in my life, I felt like I had no idea how to handle this great news. I took a deep breath to steady myself, and with only one thing whirling around my mind, that I would be having my own family.
I would become a father…
The thought made me want to jump in the air. I was over the moon, and at that very moment I wanted to thank the Moon Goddess for giving me reason to live better for Aliyah and for our little one.
“This is not a dream, right?” I quipped.
Charlotte shook her head, still all smiles as she folded her arms against her chest.
“The abdominal cramp she experienced is normal. However…” she paused and breathed sharply, and it made my forehead knot. “Considering Aliyah’s poor health condition, I am afraid you have to take care of her even more this time. Her pregnancy is critical, Reid. Anything that could give her stress and anxiety will cause her to miscarry and we don’t want that to happen. I suggest you, as much as possible, to stay by her side.”
When I heard everything, I felt a pang of pain. It was the first time I had ever felt so scared, desperate, and determined to protect my mate and our child. I gritted my teeth and responded with a ragged breath and a nod. “I’ll keep everything you said in mind.”
She smiled. “I will give you some meds she needs to take religiously. Got that?”
I nodded in response. “Thank you, Charlotte.”
“Congratulations once again, Alpha.” She exhaled loudly and smiled. “I will let you tell her the news yourself.”
Aliyah asked us a lot of questions about her health when we got back to the room. Charlotte kept telling her that she was fine, but I could tell that she didn’t believe her.
We waited for the results of her other lab test, and when Charlotte told her how to take the medicine she had given her, I decided to take her home.
“You look happy,” she commented as she stared at me while I carried her back home.
“I am just relieved, little wolf,” I breathed out and pressed my lips on her forehead.
Even from her, I could not hide how happy I was. The Moon Goddess knew how I wanted to tell her the good news. Still, I was not sure if I should tell her or wait until the right time, considering how weak her body was. I didn’t want her to worry about the pregnancy and wonder if she could handle it.
“Is it really true that there is nothing wrong with me? That I am not sick?” Her voice was hesitant.
I nodded and looked at her very carefully. “You’re not, but we need to improve your health so you won’t feel pain again.”
Aliyah nodded and took a deep breath. She put her head on my chest, and I kissed her forehead again to give her assurance that I’d stay with her no matter what happened.

ALIYAH’S POV
When we got home, I was still shaking. Charlotte and Reid told me that I was fine and that all I needed to do to avoid what had happened before was to get healthier. It was good to hear that I wasn’t dying or getting a disease that would kill me. I couldn’t let it happen to me again.
I recalled the pain I felt. It was too much to bear, and my body couldn’t figure out how to stop it. As I lay down on the bed, my feet felt as heavy as they were. Reid put a blanket over me and crawled on his side. He started to stroke my hair, which made me feel warm and safe. He was seemingly letting me know that everything was now fine.
“Thank you, Reid, for everything you do…” I said, and I felt like my chest was going to burst from all the feelings I had after what happened.
“I will do anything for you.” He bent down and gave me a k**s on the lips. I smiled. “Now, sleep. You should take a rest.”
I nodded and let him wrap his warm arms around me.
The next day, I felt better, like nothing had happened the night before. Reid and I went to the main kitchen because I wanted to cook for him and for the rest of the pack. But we were surprised to see people we knew moving around in the kitchen.
It was Lucas and his human mate, Jane.
As we got closer, Lucas called out to Reid, “Alpha. I am happy to introduce you to Jane, my mate.”
“It’s nice to see you here, Jane.” Reid greeted her.
Jane looked very happy and greeted him too before her eyes landed on me.
“H—Hi…” I greeted her, trying to be confident but ending up stammering as I talked.
“Aliyah,” she called my name, and then she gave me a big hug. “I’m glad to hear you’re okay! Lucas and I are making the pack’s breakfast. Do you want to join us?”
She looked at me with her eyes full of pleading. I couldn’t deny that Jane was very pretty. If she wanted to, she could convince anyone with her cat eyes and a cute attitude. I chuckled and nodded my head.
“I’d love to,” I said. When I looked over at Reid, he gave me a proud smile.
“That’s great! Come!”
Jane took my hand and guided me to the meat and vegetables on the counter. She seemed to be trying to make a feast for everyone in the pack house, and the way her hands chopped the vegetables made me think she was a professional chef.
She then told me something about herself, and I immediately felt more at ease with her. Reid and Lucas were sitting at the counter table and drinking coffee when Sage ran into the kitchen in a rage.
Sage was frowning and rubbing his temple as if he had just seen a huge mess.
Reid turned to him with furrowed brows. “What the f**k is going on, Sage?”
“You would not believe what just happened, Alpha.” He put his hands on his h**s while shaking his head. “Liana lose her mind and slapped the twins.”
“What?” Reid growled.
I, too, was surprised. Liana was so nice that she couldn’t hurt anyone, especially the kids we just brought here yesterday.
Sage shrugged his shoulders and looked apologetically at Reid.
“You know, Liana, man. She has a tendency to lose it if she feels disrespected. The twins made fun of her while she was trying to help them unpack.”
“Damn it. Those kids, really…” Reid cursed under his breath and immediately stood up. He then turned to me and, with ragged breathing, he said, “I will just go upstairs to see what happened with those wolves.”
