Chapter 884 I Thought You Would Come

The bridal room had grown quiet. The once lively chatter of bridesmaids and groomsmen had disappeared.

The door was closed, leaving only the two of them.

It seemned the countdown to the ceremony was irrelevant now.

Emelie sat quietly on the edge of the bed in her dazzling wedding gown. Her hair ornament swayed gently beside her temple.

After a long pause, she finally broke the silence. "William, I thought that you'd come last night."

William's throat tightened. "If I had come, would you have called off the wedding?"

Emelie shook her head. "It doesn't matter anymore. You didn't show up."

It was only then that William realized what he had missed. A deep, aching pain gripped him as he clasped Emelie's hands. Her fingers were cold, and he gently cupped them in his palms to warm them.

"I'm sorry, Angel. There were too many things on my mind," he said.

Emelie didn't need to ask; she already knew what had been running through his mind.

Given his health condition, William was weighing how long he could be with her. He questioned whether he was the right choice for her or Samuel would make her happier.

His rationality told him that he shouldn't be there. Samuel was the better match, and marrying him would bring her more happiness.

William's plans were nearly complete, and he shouldn't jeopardize everything. He had thought everything through. And that was why he hadn't shown up last night.

But when morning came, he heard the firecrackers. The whole of Mercianna was buzzing about the grand wedding.

Finally, his emotion overpowered his rationality, and so he came.

But did him showing up now mean she would leave with him?

Emelie gritted her teeth. "William, I gave you the chance to explain. To come take me away. Why do you think I walked with Mr. Swanson in my wedding dress, out in the open?

"I wanted Lyle to see us so he could tell you! But, you didn't show up. You're always like this. You never take the initiative, and you've never been honest. I always have to guess or hear things from other people."
