For three consecutive days, Calla heard no news from Mercer. She couldn’t help but miss him.

At the end of the third day, she couldn’t hold herself back and sent him a text. She was worried that a call would affect his work and rest.

However, half a day had passed without any response, Calla guessed that he was too busy, or perhaps he didn’t have time to check his texts.

Thankfully, Calla had been too busy to overthink it. She kept heading out to buy things and frequently had products delivered to the residence. While fluttering around, she’d tossed Mercer to the back of her mind.

However, the nights seemed to stretch on forever. She would toss and turn in bed thinking of him. Yet, she wouldn’t admit it–even to herself.

She only thought that sleep evaded her as a result of her pregnancy symptoms. That was also why he kept popping up in her dreams.

The next morning, the bell rang and Calla rushed over to open it.

Once she opened the door, she saw two workers carrying a large box.

One of them smiled and said, “Are you Ms. Sherman? Did you purchase two carpets? We’re here to deliver

them.”

Calla stepped aside and said, “Right, right. Come in.”

After the two of them brought the box in, Calla smiled and said, “You guys have worked hard. I’ll pour some water for the both of you.”

They shook their hands and said, “There’s no need to trouble you. We don’t need water.”

Calla turned around and said, “It’s such a hot day. Nothing will happen to you if you drink some water. Wait a moment.”

When she reached the kitchen, Calla stopped in her tracks. She suddenly felt her head spin. Then, her eyelids fluttered closed and she fell onto the floor.

When the two workers saw that Calla had fainted, they hurried over to help her up. “Miss? Miss, what happened to you?”

Calla seemed to hear someone repeatedly call out to her. However, she only maintained a few seconds of consciousness. Afterward, she blacked out completely.

In her dreams, Calla heard someone whisper by her ear. But her eyelids were extremely heavy. She couldn’t peel them open even though she wanted to.

From a distance, she could hear two people speaking.

Mercer’s voice was filled with anxiety as he asked, “Doctor, how is my wife doing?”

“Mr. Garland, we’ve conducted a thorough check on the patient. Her condition is stable. She probably fainted because of exhaustion. After all, the patient is pregnant. You need to prevent her from laboring extensively in the future.”

Mercer then asked, “How is the child?

“The fetus is doing alright. That said, the patient will be put on bed rest for a week. She’ll also need to take some medication.”

Mercer’s voice was filled with concern as he asked, “Are you sure both of them are alright?”

The doctor chuckled and left some room for doubt as he remarked, “Mr. Garland, doctors aren’t gods. No doctor can guarantee anything!”

“I’m sorry, I was too nervous just now.” Mercer let out a long sigh.

The doctor smiled and said, “No worries, I understand how you feel.” He then turned to leave.

At this moment, Calla finally peeled open. She caught a glance of Mercer’s nervous gaze, his hair in a mess. Not only was he not wearing a tie, even his shirt was unbuttoned. It was a stark contrast to his usual appearance.

When she saw the anxiousness in his eyes, Calla smiled. He cared about her, didn’t he?

Ally had been standing over the bed. When she saw that Calla had woken up, she exclaimed excitedly. ” Mrs. Garland, you’re awake?”

When Mercer heard Ally, he strode over to the bed. His dark gaze scanned Calla, who’d just woken up.

Calla even beamed at him. After all, she could sense his concern for her through his conversation with the doctor.
