Just like that, Calla cracked up whenever she thought about his outfit all afternoon.

Although she laughed at him so heartily, she didn’t dare to disobey his instructions. She moved into the master bedroom sometime later in the day.

Earlier that morning, when Jasmine came over to clean, she asked in confusion, “Ms. Sherman, are you and Mr. Garland sleeping in separate rooms?”

Looking at the surprise on Jasmine’s face, Calla explained in a hurry, “My pregnancy symptoms have been acting up, and I haven’t slept well recently. Mercer snores sometimes, and it affects my sleep. Thus, I move into the smaller bedroom to sleep when he starts snoring.”

Jasmine replied, “So that’s what’s happened. You’re at a unique stage in your pregnancy. You shouldn’t allow this to go on for too long. The love between a married couple will dissolve when you sleep in. separate beds, you see.”

After half a day of getting to know each other, Calla found that Jasmine was a talkative person, She was a capable woman who cared much about cleanliness. Thus, Calla did not hate her for her nosiness. Still, it seemed like her mouth could never take a break

Calla flashed a polite smile in response.

When Jasmine saw that Calla said nothing, she continued, “Don’t doubt what I’m telling you. Mr. and Mrs. Garland Senior began sleeping in separate beds more than a decade ago. As a result, their relationship has deteriorated. There is no love left between them anymore.”

Calla stared at Jasmine in surprise as she wondered if Mercer’s parents had a poor relationship with each other.

Looking at Calla’s expression, Jasmine felt she’d said too much. She hurriedly waved it off by saying. “Mr. Garland told me to let you rest, yet here I am chatting with you. I’ll go and do some cleaning. Get some rest!”

After Jasmine left, Calla couldn’t help but think this explained why Mercer had such an icy personality.

Did it have something to do with the environment he grew up in? A child’s personality would easily be impacted if their parents were distant from each other. She couldn’t help but pity Mercer.

Although he was born into a wealthy family, he didn’t seem to have a great childhood. It was the same as how she’d grown up in a dysfunctional family. When she thought of that, she felt bad for him.

At 5:00 pm later that day, the door slammed open. Calla woke up with a startle.

When she opened her eyes, she saw Mercer walk in looking extremely displeased. He walked to the lounge chair and took his silver suit off. Then, he yanked the red tie off and threw it on the couch. He sat down and unbuttoned his shirt unhappily.

Calla realized that Mercer was in a bad mood. She asked carefully, “Why have you come home so early?”

Mercer responded coldly, “Would you rather I stay there and have people gape at me as though I were a monkey in a zoo?”

Calla got out of bed and poured him a cup of water. She placed it in front of him and sat down. She joked,

“Who dares to treat you like a monkey?”

Mercer glared at Calla and asked, “Did you do it on purpose?”

Calla had no idea what he was getting at. “What did I do on purpose?”

Mercer pointed at his light blue shirt and explained, “You let me walk out in this outfit.”

Calla had figured out what happened. He must’ve been teased by someone for his outfit. However, she had to pretend to be innocent.

Calla asked, “Did someone say something about it?”
