Chapter 1629 Don't Think of Prevailing
Four days later.
Today there was an important public event in the military faction. Inrecent days after the merger of the military factions, they had carriedout swift reforms to restore military discipline from top to bottom. In justa few short days, everything had already taken on a completely newlook.
The conservative, corrupt, and secretly villainous factions were allstripped of their military ranks and actual power, left only to live out therest of their days in retirement.
Ralph had shown them some mercy, giving them a way out.
Now, those in charge of the military faction's actual power were allRalph's confidants, as well as supporters of the military disciplinecleanup policy.
Clearly, for a long time to come, the military faction would defend thecountry and benefit the people with an entirely new lineup.
This had also been the century-old Heath family military faction's long-cherished wish all along.
Finally, taking advantage of this opportunity of splitting up and mergingback together, they had achieved their goal.
Today, the military faction had an important public commendation andconferral of ranks ceremony, for both internal and external purposes.Of course Joyce needed to attend.
For her important role in capturing Otis, she would be awarded a firstclass medal at the commendation ceremony.
In the morning, Joyce set an alarm.
At six o'clock, the shrill ring of the alarm sounded and she jerkedawake, getting up to get dressed and made up.
Usually she didn't care much about dressing up, but today she wasinevitably a little nervous about making her first appearance in front ofall the high-ranking generals of the military faction.
She had tossed and turned last night, unable to fall asleep no matterwhat.
In the end, it was only when Luther held her in his arms and forced herthat she finally fell asleep.
The sky was not yet bright and the room was pitch dark.
Hearing the alarm, Luther pressed Joyce down, "The medalpresentation isn't until ten, the sun hasn't even come up yet, why areyou getting up?"
“I'm getting up to change clothes." Joyce wanted to sit up, but his legwas pressing down on her, rendering her unable to move.
"It's early yet. Sleep a while longer.” Luther dissatisfiedly put his armsaround her.
"You can sleep if you want, but I can't sleep.” Joyce pushed at him.“There will be so many people there today, I need to get ready.""There's nothing that needs getting ready. You're the most beautiful andelegant young commander in the world. All you need to do is standthere and you'll be the focus of the entire venue.” Luther firmly held herdown. "Be good, even getting up at eight would be rushed. It's too earlynow. Don't worry, Andres and I will be there with you to cheer you on."“I, I'm a little nervous.” Joyce still couldn't push him away no matterhow she tried. She bit her lip, her body taut, feeling a bit anxious.Luther sobered up a little. He propped himself up on one elbow andlooked at her askance.
Even in the dark of the pre-dawn, although it was hard to see, heralluring profile, curvaceous figure, and fragrant scent intoxicated himevery bit as much. Remembering being with her constantly day andnight these past days, it had been an exceptionally fulfilling time.Suddenly, he grinned wickedly, "You're nervous? Let me help you relaxand unwind."
Joyce was startled.
How was he going to help her relax?
Before she could react, he had already flipped her beneath him, usinghis warm lips to stifle all her protests. What followed was unbridledravishment. His wounds had healed and today he could finally takeaction with his body instead of having to "beg" her every day.
She glared at him wide-eyed, unable to break free.
So this was what he meant by helping her relax.
In the end, all of Joyce's indignation melted away in his lingeringtenderness.
Afterwards, exhausted, she nestled in his embrace and took a nap.Her body certainly was no longer taut, and her mind relaxed as well.Luther held her, glancing at the time. After the gratifying release of amoment ago, he was wide awake. Holding her now, he felt anexceptional sense of satisfaction, knowing she hadn't slept well lastnight. He planned to wake her at eight to let her rest a while longer.
At eight, even Anderson was awake.
He ran to his parents’ room and shouted excitedly, "Dad, Mom, time toget up! Today is the conferral of ranks ceremony!"
Joyce's eyes flew open and she shoved Luther away to sit up, "Whattime is it?!"
Luther stroked her long hair. "Just turned eight. Plenty of time. Aaronalready brought breakfast up to the dining room. At nine he'll drive us tothe ceremony venue, we'll make it."
Anderson stood in the doorway. "Mom, I'm going to go brush my teethand wash my face and get changed!"
After speaking, Anderson bounced away.
Joyce let out a low exclamation and turned to glare fiercely at Luther.“It's so late, heavens, I won't have time! This is all your fault, thinkingabout those things first thing in the morning. Despicable!"
Luther chucklingly put his arm around her waist. "What's wrong? Youseem much more relaxed now, and your spirit is not bad either. It's allthanks to me."
Joyce was speechless, giving him an icy look.
She hurriedly got up to wash and dress, while urging Luther at thesame time, "You need to hurry up too."
"Don't worry, I already had Aaron bring up breakfast, it's set out in thedining room. He'll drive us to the ceremony at nine, we'll make it."Luther threw back the blankets and got out of bed, moving with perfectelegance.
Joyce didn't want to say anything more to him. She washed up hastily, wolfed down a few bites of breakfast, then changed into her formalmilitary uniform. She put on makeup in record time, applying it lightly. When she emerged from the dressing room, Luther felt his breathinghitch.
Just now he had also changed into a tailored dark blue suit, paired witha tie in the same color scheme, with sapphire cufflinks at the wrists. With his unmatched handsome looks and peerless elegance, nodescription could be more fitting.
But the Joyce before his eyes now shone so brightly she made himforget to breathe.
He didn't know what words could depict the sight before him.
The ink green military uniform was as bold and vigorous as theheavens, the ramrod posture, the glittering gold epaulettes blinding tobehold.
Her perfect face, aloof aura, bright eyes.
He only felt his body tighten.
The intimacy of the morning was far from enough to satisfy him.
At this moment, his whole body was hot, his throat dry.
He stepped toward her, the heat in his eyes impossible to conceal.Joyce wasn't stupid. Living together day and night, she was longfamiliar with the look in his eyes. Whenever he showed this look, sheknew what he wanted to do.
She clutched the front of her clothes warily and took a step back, warning:
“Don't even think about it! We're leaving in ten minutes! Don't touch me!Stay away from me!"
As she spoke, she watched him warily, sidling away from him bit by bitas if avoiding a thief.
This man's libido had clearly gone to his head recently, seekingsatisfaction every day yet still not enough.
Luther suddenly grabbed her from behind, pulling her to his side.Joyce was startled by him. She instinctively tried to break free.
But he leaned to her ear and murmured low, “I know there's no timenow. After the presentation, don't change your clothes. We'll replace aplace..."
"Scram!" Joyce glowered at him.
This man was too much.
Luther just laughed. Angry or not, she would eventually succumb to himin the end.
At this time Anderson poked out his little head. He was wearing a coollittle black suit.
"Dad, Mom, what are you doing? Can we go now?"
Joyce was granted a reprieve. She immediately escaped from Luther'sside, leading Anderson out by the hand. "Alright, let's head out now."As she turned, she didn't forget to give Luther an icy glare.
She certainly wouldn't let him have his way! As if!
