Chapter 1657 Alzheimer
After she finished speaking, Joyce proactively picked up food for him."Eat more, you look a bit tired."
Luther saw Joyce's affectionate behavior towards him in front of Darrin, and his expression softened.
“You should eat more too. There are my two sons in your belly," helooked up and glanced at Darrin.
"You know about Joyce's pregnancy, right? She's carrying three peoplenow. I entrust her safety to you in the future.”
Darrin immediately stood up. "Please rest assured, Mr. Warner. Darrinwill go through fire and water without hesitation."
"Alright, sit down and eat. This is a home, not a military camp.” Joycerubbed her forehead, feeling speechless.
"Are you going to Mufron tomorrow? Is Darrin going too?" Joycesuddenly asked, thinking of this matter. Darrin had just arrived, and itdidn't feel right to leave him behind. But if he came along, more peoplewould know about Iris.
She was a bit conflicted.
"We can.” Luther nodded and agreed.
"By the way, about Iris. I told my mom because of the grave relocation, she will eventually replace out." Luther said.
"Mm." Joyce nodded. This time returning to Khebury, she hadn't seenJacqueline yet.
They had only briefly met last time.
The past was in the past, and she didn't want to dwell on it anymore.Since they were moving the grave back to the Warner family plot, it wasonly right to inform Jacqueline.
After dinner.
Unexpectedly, Jacqueline came to the Warner residence. Shelly alsocame, bringing her new boyfriend along. It seemed that they had metwhile abroad, and he was tall with striking blond hair.
Shelly introduced, "Brother, sister-in-law, this is my husband, Huffman. He's from St. Denis.”
"Hello, everyone. Nice to meet you all." Huffman greeted everyonewarmly.
Joyce looked at Luther in surprise. Husband? Shelly had actuallygotten married. Last time she came back, she had heard that he washer boyfriend.
"Oh, they got married and obtained their marriage license in St. Denis. They had a simple but meaningful ceremony in a foreign church.”Luther explained.
Jacqueline said, "Yes, Xiaoxiao and Huffman are going to settle in St.Denis soon, so we won't see each other often.” She seemed a bitdown, filled with emotion.
Approaching them, Jacqueline held Joyce's hands. "Joyce, it's been somany years since I last saw you. You've worked hard all these years.Ah, it's Andres, he's grown so big. He's so cute.”
As she spoke, she freed up one hand and gently touched Anderson'shead.
Joyce and Anderson exchanged a glance, both with a hint of confusionin their eyes.
Jacqueline's demeanor seemed as if she didn't remember their lastvisit?
It hadn't been that long. How could she forget?
“Let's all sit down." Luther also noticed that something was off. "Mom,go tell Mr. Arnold to bring the tea leaves I brought back a few daysago."
"Oh, alright.” Jacqueline turned and left.
After Jacqueline left, Luther asked Shelly, “What's going on? Does shenot remember the last time Joyce and Anderson visited?"
Shelly nodded.
“Yes, for some time now, actually quite a while, I just didn't notice itbefore. I realized that Mom often forgets things. She would say shedidn't eat even though she had finished her meal. She would buy thingsshe had already bought before. She often forgets this and that. Later, Itook her for a check-up last week."
Shelly sighed. "The doctor said she has Alzheimer's disease, and it'sprogressing rapidly. Right now, she can't remember recent events, andsoon she won't even remember the past. Eventually, she will lose herability to speak and won't recognize any of us."
Joyce furrowed her brow. She knew about Alzheimer's disease, acognitive disorder caused by progressive degeneration of the nervoussystem. Some people progress rapidly. She didn't expect Jacqueline tohave this disease.
"There isn't a good treatment for this disease worldwide." Lutherfrowned. "We can only provide good care, focus on regular exerciseand cognitive training to slow down its progression. Did the doctor sayhow long it will be until she completely forgets us?"
“It varies from person to person. It could be three to five years, ormaybe two to three years," Shelly's face was filled with sadness. Shewas raised by Jacqueline, so she had a much deeper emotionalconnection with her than Luther did. Luther was raised by Stephanie, and he was never close to Jacqueline.
"Don't worry, we plan to take Mom with us to St. Denis for treatment. Our country has the best rehabilitation center for Alzheimer'sdiseaseright at the foot of the snowy mountains. It has beautifulscenery and a pleasant climate.” Huffman spoke up at this moment."Yes, brother, we plan to settle there," Shelly held onto Huffman, herface radiating happiness.
“Brother, I'll take care of Mom, so you don't have to worry. You takecare of sister-in-law. We heard about Iris, it's really unfortunate. Sister-in-law is pregnant with twins again, so you must take good care of her.”After Shelly finished speaking, she held Joyce's hands tightly.
The past grievances seemed to disappear in this moment.
Joyce felt relieved. Jacqueline would eventually forget everything, andShelly was settling abroad. The past no longer mattered.
While they were talking, Jacqueline walked over with freshly brewedtea.
The family chatted as if nothing had happened for a while.
It was getting late, and Shelly, Huffman, and Jacqueline left first. When they reached the door and Jacqueline got into the car, Shellysaid to Joyce, "Sister-in-law, we won't go with you to move lIris's grave.I'm afraid it will make Mom sad and upset. After she found out aboutIris, she cried all night. She bears a great responsibility for this, anddeep down, she knows it. Although she will forget in the future, this painwill always remain."
“It's okay, you don't have to come." Joyce understood.
“In the past, I was the one who wronged you." Shelly sighed. "I know Ican't make up for it, but I just hope that you can be happy in the future.”Joyce gently patted Shelly's shoulder. “I've long let go. Otherwise, Iwouldn't have come back to this family. The bad people have receivedtheir deserved punishment. We don't need to say such things anymore, and we don't need to bring up the past. Seeing you change, I feelrelieved. Huffman is a good person, cherish him."
“Yeah, he treats me well. I will. Goodbye."
Shelly waved goodbye to Joyce, Luther, and Anderson, then got intothe car and left the Warner residence.
Luther held Joyce's shoulder. “It's getting late. Let's rest early tonight. We have to get up early tomorrow for the flight.”
Anderson held onto Luther's clothes. "Did Grandma really getAlzheimer's disease? I know that there's no cure for that disease.”Luther gently ruffled Anderson's hair. "Yes, people grow old and getsick. That's why, when we're together, we should cherish each otherand treasure our time."
"Yeah." Anderson nodded solemnly.
