You Hit My Heart
Chapter 1701: Old Friends

Chapter 1701: Old Friends

In the middle of the night, Luther, satisfied, fell asleep exhausted, holding Joyce in his arms.

As he slept deeply, he faintly heard the vibration of his phone. Heabruptly woke up, not wanting to disturb Joyce. He quickly pressed theside of his phone and switched it to silent mode. In the darkness, hepicked up the phone and glanced at the screen. When he saw it was acall from Athena, his black eyes suddenly grew darker than the night. That damn woman, causing trouble again?

He no longer felt sleepy and got up, putting on his clothes and walkingto the window in the living room. He dialed Athena's number, loweringhis voice impatiently, "Hello, what do you want?"

After listening, his face grew even darker. "Fine, I got it."

After hanging up the phone, he clenched his fist, then fiercely smashedit against the wall next to the window. The wallpaper, of good qualityand soft, didn't make much noise when struck. However, his knuckleswere somewhat injured.

He paid no attention to the pain; his heart was filled with anger.Outside the window, the night was pitch black, silent and still. Moonlightsparsely illuminated the scene, and occasionally branches trembled inthe wind, casting eerie shadows on the ground, evoking fear.

He stood there for a while, put on his suit, picked up his briefcase, andleft the Warner residence.

The night was heavy with dew. As the car's crimson taillights suddenlylit up in the dark night, it seemed as if a fierce beast had opened itseyes.

Luther stepped on the accelerator and sped away.

At this moment, Joyce walked out from the corner of the living room. She walked all the way to the front door, watching Luther drive awaywith furrowed brows. Her face remained calm and serene, without anyripples.

In fact, she had sensed it when Luther got up. She didn't alarm him;instead, she hid around the corner of the living room while he left andmade the phone call. Although she couldn't hear the conversation, hisfurious act of smashing the wall deeply shook her.

She knew something must have happened; otherwise, he wouldn'tbehave so unusually.

She didn't appear until he left, silently watching his figure withoutinquiring.

She had promised to give him her complete trust. She was only worriedand didn't know what he had to face alone.

Speculating in her heart, it might have something to do with Alisha. After all, everything started when they discovered Alisha's empty gravein Mufron and returned.

She stood in the living room for a while.

Until Darrin walked in wearing a military jacket.

Darrin was always alert, even when he was in the Warner residence,he only slept lightly, bearing heavy responsibilities.

He heard the sound of Luther's car just now and immediately got up tocheck the situation. Finding no abnormalities inside or outside thehouse, he felt relieved.

Entering the main mansion, he saw Joyce standing in the living room, slightly surprised. She asked, "Colonel, do you know that Mr. Warnerwent out in the middle of the night?"

Joyce nodded. "Yes, I know."

"Did Mr. Warner tell you what happened?" Darrin asked again.

Joyce shook her head. "He didn't tell me."

Darrin hesitated for a moment, then asked, “Colonel, can I track himand install real-time location software in the car? We can keep track ofhis every move."

"No need," Joyce waved her hand. “If he doesn't tell me, there must bea reason he doesn't want to tell me. He's not that kind of person. I trusthim."

Darrin furrowed his brow. “But your face doesn't look good. Aren't youworried?"

Joyce didn't deny it. “I am worried. I'm worried that when we go back toKhebury, we'll be involved in something we don't know about. I have abad feeling that this time it's definitely more complicated. Otherwise, hewouldn't keep it from me. Since he's keeping it from me, it must bebecause he doesn't want me to worry too much.”

Darrin pondered for a moment. "Are you referring to Reuben's suddenappearance? Prince Rohomes coming to Pascaylia? And the captain ofhis personal guard?”

He hadn't expected it. Grizela, who seemed delicate, turned out to bethe captain of the prestigious Rohomes Royal Guard. One must knowthat anyone who could attain that position must have experiencednumerous life-and-death situations and unimaginable hardships.

It was hard to imagine that she, a frail woman, could overcomecountless difficulties and become the captain of the royal guard. He hadunderestimated her. In their two small-scale skirmishes, he felt that herskillswere on par with his own, and when combined with herextraordinary ninjutsu, she might even have the upper hand.

Prince Rohomes, along with the captain of the personal guard, appearing in Pascaylia. It inevitably made people suspect their motives. Was it related to politics or military matters? It was impossible to know. And what connection did it have with the robbery incident thathappened inexplicably in the city center today?

Joyce turned on a small lamp in the living room. In the dim light, hergraceful figure appeared even more gentle.

“I'm not sure, maybe they're all related. Right now, I can't make anyjudgments.”

She pondered for a moment.

"I thought of an old friend, and I plan to go see him."

"Who?" Darrin asked.

Joyce raised an eyebrow. "Christian, the head of the Longshi Group.Have you heard of him?"

Darrin was taken aback. "I know him. In another world with a differentset of rules, he's also a prominent figure."

“I have some history with him. He saved me and Anderson from thesea years ago. I owe him a debt that I haven't been able to repay. Iheard that he's in Khebury now." Joyce lightly brushed her fingers. "Ican't help but feel that everything abnormal is related to our return fromMufron."

"What can we do by replaceing Christian?" Darrin didn't understand."Christian and Luther were good friends when they were young, butthey fell out because of something. There has always been somethingbetween them, perhaps a deep grudge or something else. In any case,I believe that replaceing out about this matter will be the key to solving theproblem."

Joyce analyzed carefully.

"Why not just ask Mr. Warner directly? Wouldn't it be faster?" Darrinfurrowed his brow. They were deeply in love as a couple, so why didthey have to avoid discussing it like this? He felt a sense of confusion.“I'm afraid of disturbing his plans. I want to replace out on my own. Weeach do our own tasks and help each other,” Joyce said withdetermination.

Darrin looked at her resolute profile and sighed, “I hope you're right.Whatever decision you make, I'll support you and assist you. Just giveme your orders."

Joyce turned around and looked at Darrin. "Join me in meetingChristian. I already left him a message, and he will reply when he seesit. For now, let's keep this matter from him."

"Alright, no problem,” Darrin nodded.

"And since we already know Reuben's identity, let's not investigate fornow, so as not to alert them. Let's pretend we don't know," Joyceinstructed.

"Don't worry, I understand,” Darrin stood at attention and salutedrespectfully.

Joyce let out a sigh of relief. "I'm going to get some rest."

She smiled softly and gently caressed her small stomach.

She still had the children to take care of and needed to rest and protecther own body.
