You Hit My Heart
Chapter 1754: I Love You

Chapter 1754: I Love You

Joyce rested her hands on the desk, avoiding eye contact and hangingher head, not wanting others to see her helplessness and disarray. Shewas human, not a deity, and faced with such a blow, she, too, wouldfeel lost.

Darrin stood not far away, watching Joyce's trembling shoulders. He letout a sigh. He didn't approach to disturb her, leaving her some space toadjust. Anyone would struggle to withstand such bad news.

He asked the female researcher, "Does Mr. Warner often come here?"The female researcher shook her head. "Not often. I've only seen himthree times, and the most recent time was a couple of days ago. I can'tremember the exact date. You know, as researchers, we work day andnight in the lab, so the days blend together.”

Darrin continued, "How does Mr. Warner seem in terms of his physicalcondition?"

"He seems fine," the female researcher replied. "Microbial effects onthe body aren't noticeable during normal times; it's a subtle erosion.Having inhibitors helps a lot, but it's harder to detect during regulartimes. Unfortunately, Mr. Warner isn't sensitive to the inhibitors, andcombined with his unstable emotions, it's difficult to control. However, ineveryday life, he's just like any normal person. Only in the end does theillness manifest in symptoms like bleeding, extreme weight loss, andparalysis."

The female researcher suddenly covered her mouth, feeling that whatshe said was a bit horrifying. She was afraid of scaring Joyce.

Darrin’'s heart skipped a beat as he looked at Joyce. He noticed thather body shrank slightly and her shoulders trembled.

He quickly changed the subject. “Is there any progress with thescreening of the microorganisms?"

"Of course, we've made progress. We've been screening tirelessly," thefemale researcher solemnly replied.

At this point, Joyce finally regained her composure. She graduallypropped herself up, stabilizing herself until she stood firmly.

When she turned around, there was no trace of grief on her face, onlycalmness.

She walked up to the female researcher and calmly asked, “I entrustthe screening to your team. I want to know, what else can I do at themoment? This kind of poison was created in a secret laboratory by awarlord. Unfortunately, those who knew about it are already dead."The female researcher looked at Joyce, secretly admiring her powerfulcomposure and self-control.

After thinking for a moment, the female researcher said, "ProfessorOrik always says that it would be great if we knew the specificidentification numbers of the microorganisms used in the poison. Thescreening process is too slow, like replaceing a needle in a haystack. It'snot difficult to develop an antidote; the difficult part is not knowing whocreated it."

"Okay, I understand. Thank you," Joyce said as she walked back toDarrin’s side, gesturing for them to leave.

Before they left, Joyce looked at the female researcher and said coldly,"What happened here today, I hope you won't tell anyone. If I receiveany information, I'll come and visit again.”

The female researcher nodded. "Understood."

Joyce turned and walked away, with Darrin following closely behind. They arrived at the entrance, got into the car they had arrived in, andJoyce fastened her seatbelt. She remained silent.

Darrin started the car and accelerated. He asked, "Shall we go back tothe Warner residence or head to the company?"

Joyce glanced out the window, her expression distant. “It doesn'tmatter.”

Darrin hesitated for a moment, realizing that Joyce was feeling lost atthe moment.

He couldn't help but advise, "Commander, being anxious won't help.Good things come to those who wait, and you can't let yourself fall.”Joyce closed her eyes and leaned back against the seat. "I know. I'mjust recalling the entire process and considering what I might haveoverlooked and what I can do now."

"Commander, let me be frank. Have you ever thought about why Mr.Warner kept this from you?" Darrin asked as he drove.

Joyce opened her eyes and looked at Darrin. "Why?"

Darrin let out a sigh. "As a man, I understand. You've already done somuch in the past. Some things should be left to others to handle; you'repushing yourself too hard. Besides not wanting to worry you, Mr.Warner is more concerned about not burdening you. He will replace a wayto resolve it."

Joyce weakly smiled. "Other matters aside, how can I ignore a life-or-death situation? You don't need to persuade me; I know what I need todo."

Darrin nodded. "Alright."

Joyce sat in the car, contemplating for a momentand then took out herphone, dialing Cecelia's number.

Cecelia answered the phone quickly and asked, "Joyce, how have youbeen feeling lately?"

Joyce responded softly, “I'm fine. Mom, there's something I want you tohelp me investigate. It's about the researchers from the secretlaboratory who were killed by Otis. Can you replace any remaininginformation about them, their families, and even the items and booksthey left at home? Also, any trace of the web pages they visited. I wantto gather as much information as possible on the matter. The moredetailed and comprehensive, the better.”

She spoke quickly, getting straight to the point.

Cecelia was silent on the phone for a while. Finally, she asked, "Joyce,is it about Luther's poisoning... and it still hasn't been resolved?"Quick-thinking people always grasp the key points. Cecelia immediatelyunderstood the essence of the problem.

Joyce didn't deny it, knowing she couldn't hide it. "Yes, the poison in hisbody hasn't been neutralized. It's a rare microbial toxin that can hardlybe detected in the body."

"Okay, I understand. Take care of yourself," Cecelia's voice turnedserious. She didn't ask further and ended the call.

The conversation between mother and daughter was concise, but theyboth understood what needed to be done.

Darrin soon drove the car back to the Warner residence.

After Joyce got out of the car, she said, "Go take care of other matters.I want to rest for a while.”

Darrin nodded.

Joyce then returned to her room and closed the door.

When she was alone, she suddenly collapsed on the bed, lying flat onher back, staring at the ceiling, tears that had been held back for solong finally fell, quietly soaking into the pillow.

He had come back, embracing her, but never revealed himself.

Didn't he know how much she missed him?

She took out her phone and stared blankly at the contact list, the threewords “Luther” on the screen, a number she hadn't dialed in a longtime.

Suddenly, she couldn't hold back anymore and pressed the dial button.Accompanied by the ringing tone that lasted for a long time.

When she thought that no one would answer, the call suddenlyconnected.

Although it connected, there was no one speaking on the other end.Clearly connected, yet shrouded in silence.

After a long time, as if a vast amount of time had passed, Joyce slowlyspoke, her voice trembling slightly, and uttered just three words.

“I love you..."
