Your Man IS NOT My Mate
Heartless Beast

"Miss Parker, glad to see you could make it out to practice today." The coach of the team smiles, walking up to me as soon as I arrived on the field. I stare at him confused for a while, prompting him to explain. "The principal told me you'll be coming."

Adrian and the boys watch me with raised brows and I'm still none the wiser about what the coach is talking about and I guess it shows on my face.

"...Water girl?" The coach asks, tilting his head while looking at me for confirmation.

Oh yeah! I totally forgot all about that. A sheepish grin breaks out on my face.

Wait, do I really need to practice how to hand out water? Before I can voice my question, the coach claps his hand, gaining his team's attention as he beckons them towards himself.

"Alright, so we have a new member." He looks over at me gesturing for me to stand beside him. "Her name is Liyah Lee Parker and from what the principal tells me, she's eager to work along with us.... So, let's make her feel welcomed." The coach smiles, turning towards me to officially shake my hand. I should probably say something now, but the team quickly follows suit making me feel so included and welcomed that backing out now might be awkward and embarrassing.

By the end of the practice session, I'm exhausted. Who knew I'd be required to run towards the players to quench their thirst?

"I really wasn't prepared for all of that running around." I nervously laugh pulling on the blue shorts that keep riding up. Yup, I was given a games uniform so I can fit in with the team, and get this, it has on my name and I have my own number- 2. I mean granted the H comes before, and the O comes behind. H2O.

Adrian chuckles beside me as he walks me home, which he volunteered to do, allowing the boys to take his car. He'll call them to collect him when he's ready, but for right now, we are just enjoying a little alone time.

"You did a great job and you looked great doing it." He teases, as he watches me pulling on my pants again.

I playfully roll my eyes, pushing him slightly as we both begin to laugh.

We reach home and surprisingly the house is empty which is alarming since Officer DéSilver should have been home. He didn't inform me of any plans or engagements that demand his presence, nor did he inform me that he'll be running late.

I frown wondering about what could have happened to me if I had been alone and the attacker somehow showed up. So much for having a bodyguard.

"Hey, you ok?" Adrian slips his hand in mine, causing me to look at him. Instantly all else fades as I stare into those ocean eyes.

I nod. How could I not be ok when he's staring at me like this?

My heart suddenly hums to life in anticipation as Adrian turns his body squarely to face me. "I want to ask you something." His low deep tone sends shives down my spine and my heart skips a beat. I nod too afraid that my words might betray my heart.

He takes a deep breath, then smiles. "Will you be my girlfriend?"

My eyes grow wide and I stare at him in shock though I try to cover it up with a sheepish grin. "I thought I was already your girlfriend." I tease.

"Well unofficially yeah." He chuckles. "but I want to make it official" He steps forward and I hold my breath, unconsciously biting on my bottom lip as I stare into his eyes that hold me captive.

Adrian grins. He's cute when he smiles and I can't help but smile back at him. "Well then....?" he asks, waiting for a response as his eyes momentarily flicking to my lips.

My head nods once again on its own accord and a playful smirk-like-smile lines Adrian's lip as he steps even closer, greatly minimizing the space between us.

He begins to slowly lean down till his lips hover over mine. "May I?" he asks, his minty breath caressing my lips.

My mind shuts down and my body relishes in the moment, moving with an unknown boldness. My hand reach out to cup his face and my thumb runs gently along his cheek.

"If you keep doing that, I might not be able to control myself."

I bite my bottom lip, feeling my cheeks heat up at the sound of his husky voice. I've never wanted anything as much as I want this kiss right now. Adrian seems to know exactly how I'm feeling because he leans down slowly until our foreheads touch. We're breathing heavily and I can hear myself gulp as his hands move to cradle my waist, holding me tightly.

I can barely believe this is about to happen, but somehow I'm excited for it to happen. I can feel Adrian's chest rising and falling against mine and I close my eyes as butterflies erupt in my stomach. The anticipation of the kiss is killing me....

Suddenly, a shrill growl pierces the air, followed by the harsh slam of the front door. Adrian quickly removes his forehead from mine, but doesn't move away entirely.

There stands Officer DéSilver in the entryway glaring daggers towards the two of us. His hardened expression breaths pure fury, his eyes flickering a dangerous red color. His eyes then dart to Adrian and locks onto him like a hawk. His hands, positioned at his side, suddenly curls into a tight threatening fist as he emits a powerful aura that sends a cold shudder racing down my spine. I instinctively back away from Adrian, fearing the worst.

Without any further warnings, everything happens quickly, like a blur.

He roughly grabs Adrian by the collar of his shirt, dragging him away from me, before swiftly latching unto Adrian's neck, suspending him in mid-air.

"WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING!?" His voice booms, filled with fury as his nostrils flare. I can visibly see his grip around Adrian's neck tightening and I know if I don't do something, I might end up as a witness of this murder scene.

Instinctively, I rush to calm down Officer DéSilver, recklessly reaching out my hand towards him.

"DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH ME!" He angrily growls, his head snapping towards me. My heart jumps into my throat, I've seen him upset, but I've never seen this side of him before, and it creeps me the hell out.

I can see the muscles twitch underneath his skin, his teeth gnashing together as the muscles in his jaw flex and strain under his grip.

"Please put him down." I plead softly, trying to hide my fear.

"Please." I repeat, my voice now bordering the line of desperation. Officer DéSilver completely ignores me, but I can't give up, I have no other choice. "Please." I plead again. I'm begging him right now as my palms sweat profusely and without thinking I step closer, praying that this isn't going to turn bad.

A low dark growl of warning vibrates from his chest and his thumb starts to press into Adrian's throat causes me to I stop dead in my tracks.

Adrian's mouth gapes open as he gasps for air, the sound echoing in the room like church bells in a graveyard. Officer DéSilver shifts his attention from me back to Adrian seemingly egged on by his shallow breaths.

Officer DéSilver squeezes tighter.

"LET HIM GO!" I impulsively scream, tears filling my eyes.

Officer DéSilver goes ridged at my tone, even I am slightly startled by my own voice. It was like a crying plead embedded with an urgent command, that I'm sure Stella played a part in.

Officer DéSilver's gaze slowly drifts back to me, his bloodshot eyes slowly fading back to its natural color as he suddenly releases Adrian from his clutches.

Adrian drops with a thump, and immediately rubs his neck as he greedily fills every inch of his lungs with life giving air. I rush to Adrian's side, kneeling down beside him with worry and panic clawing at my heart. "Are you okay?" I ask frantically, reaching out to run a soothing hand over his neck.

Adrian lifts his head, a revengeful glint in his eyes as he glares at Officer DéSilver.

I glance up at Officer DéSilver just in time to see his widen eyes darting between Adrian and I. His eyes almost bear resemblance to a sincerely apologetic criminal. But I know better than to think he's sorry, he's simply a heartless beast who wants to strip me of my happiness.

My eyes show no mercy as I stare at him. "I think you should leave." I demand through gritted teeth.

"But-"

"LEAVE!" I growl.

His eyes plead with me, I've never seen such a broken look on anyone's face, much less his, but he doesn't protest any more and just turns and leaves.

I return my attention to Adrian. He's alive and seemingly much better now... So why is my heart still emotionally aching?
