Chapter 48

Lysander didn't directly answer Elara's question. Instead, he said, "I went home for a couple of days."

"I know," Elara replied with concern. "Are you unhappy at home? Did they bully you?"

Elara was quite curious about why he had been staying at his uncle's house. 'Could it be that his dad treats him badly?' she wondered.

Elara had heard that Lysander's mother had passed away fairly early, leaving him with a stepmother. Elara didn't have a stepmother, but many of her friends did.

Children from families with stepmothers often had a tough time. 'Is that why he always looks so lonely?' she thought.

Lysander shook his head. "No, my dad and stepmom treat me well. They are polite. He might yell at my brother, but he never yells at me. Just like you." His gaze settled on Elara's face.

Upon hearing this, Elara suddenly understood.

'He's not talking about his family. He's comparing how they treat him to how I treat him. He thinks I have a better relationship with Asher and the reason why I am not mad at him is that I see him as an outsider,' she wondered. Elara said to Lysander, "I'm not sure what your family thinks of you, but to me, you're very important."

Lysander looked at her. "Really?"

"Don't you believe me?" Elara pouted. "I was even thinking that after I graduate, I would marry you and then we could have a few kids together."

Lysander was taken aback by her mention of having kids, but he quickly realized she was joking.

"Stop joking around," Lysander said, somewhat awkwardly taking a sip of water.

Elara felt delighted. Teasing him was incredibly fun. "I'm serious. See? When I tell you the truth, you don't believe me."

Elara might not be able to explain why she was being so nice to him now, but the idea of being with him after graduation was genuinely on her mind.

Lysander replied, "I just don't want to see you cry because of someone else."

"That's because," Elara explained, "I feel like I'm being bullied. It's really frustrating."

Whenever she thought about things that happened before the time travel, Elara truly felt wronged. Only when she was with Lysander did she replace a bit of comfort.

Lysander looked at her, a familiar expression on his face, making him feel a bit uneasy as he wondered what he could do to help her.

Elara said, "No matter what happens, even if my grades improve, I won't be like what Asher had said and just use you. I definitely won't be with him."

Though unsure if she was speaking the truth, just the fact that she was willing to say those things to cheer him Lysander very happy. The inner conflict he had felt over the past couple of days had vanished.

Elara looked at him and said, "In my heart, I've already chosen you. If you don't mind, I'll marry you, okay?" Lysander was surprised by her words. "Really?"

"Of course," she nodded. Elaça glanced at the appetizer the server brought over, picked up her fork, and speared a piece.

She added, "But I haven't graduated yet, and my dad doesn't want me to be with you so early. So we'll have to wait a bit. Just don't let Asher bother you. He doesn't compare to you."

At that moment, the restaurant was quiet, with just the two of thein. Listening to Elara, Lysander felt as if this was the most beautiful language in the world.

Before long, Harold arrived. "Hello, Mr. Jarvis," the server greeted Harold politely upon seeing him.

Dressed in a gray suit, Harold, in his forties, didn't look particularly old.

"Hi, Uncle Harold, long time no see." Although it had been a while since they last met, Elara recognized him immediately and greeted him.

Harold acknowledged her with a nod, pulled out a chair, and was about to sit down when he noticed that Elara was sitting next to Lysander. "What are you doing here?"

'Shouldn't Lysander be next door?' Harold thought.

The Hawthorne family had thrown a welcome-back party for Lysander, just next door. Harold was surprised to see Lysander here with Elara.

Seeing Harold looking at Lysander, Elara explained, "Uncle Harold, are you talking about Lysander? He's my friend, and we came over from Brookfield together. He's still tutoring me." "Are you saying you're with him now?" Harold asked, taken aback.

Elara had always been reluctant to be with Lysander. Harold had heard that Elara was getting closer to Asher, so he hadn't taken this matter seriously.

Elara replied, "I'm just listening to my dad about my matters."

That statement from Elara lacked any persuasive power. 'Her? Listening to her dad? She must be joking,' Harold thought, replaceing it hard to understand.

He sat beside them, sizing up Lysander, and felt it inappropriate to say anything in front of him.

They began eating. Elara turned to Harold and said, "Uncle Harold, it's been a while since we last met."

"Didn't you say you didn't like coming here?" Harold responded. "You just want to hide away in that little place Brookfield, flirting with your family's chauffeur's son."

Elara felt embarrassed, her skin prickling at his words. After she spent so much time reassuring Lysander, Harold's comment was just pouring fuel on the fire.

Elara cleared her throat. "My situation with Asher is in the past. Uncle Harold, please don't bring it up again."

"In the past?" Harold queried. "How did it suddenly become the past? I thought you were sweet. Did you two have a fight?"

"Uncle Harold, please stop," Elara urged. She was puzzled as to why he kept bringing it up.

'Sweet? Oh my God, Uncle Harold, you should just be quiet! She thought. 'Lysander is right here. If he keeps saying this, Lysander will definitely get upset.'

Elara said, "I just played around with Asher before. I'll stay far away from him in the future."

Harold looked at Elara. "Your dad's meaning? After not seeing you for a while, he's got you behaving this well."

'Lysander is already a bit skeptical. After all, Asher said I was with Lysander just to trick him into tutoring me. I hope Lysander shouldn't take it seriously,' Elara thought, hoping to replace a chance to clarify. Elara said, "It's my own decision. I don't like Asher anymore. It has nothing to do with my dad."

After saying that, she looked at Lysander and served him some food. "Eat this."

Elara didn't want Lysander to be upset. She disliked having conflicts with him and wanted to see him happy Just then, Harold's phone rang. He answered. "I have a bit of business to take care of." "Mr. Jarvis, Aubrey is causing a scene. He says if you reported.

't show up, he'll wreck the place," the voice on the other end

"Aubrey?" Harold frowned upon hearing this. He glanced at Lysander across the table and thought, 'I haven't even spoken to Lysander yet, and now Aubrey is making trouble.'

Harold ran this hotel, and he frequently helped host important guests. He knew most people in Starfield City and often interacted with them. Now, he must go to deal with this matter first. Harold stood

and said to Elara, "I need to handle some hotel matters. You two go

ahead and eat."

Once Harold left, Elara finally breathed a sigh of relief.
