Chapter 50

After a long while, Harold finally finished his work and walked over to Elara. "Hi, Elara," he greeted her.

"Hi, Uncle Harold," Elara replied.

"It's time for you to head back," Harold said. "I'll take you home. You should get some rest."

"Now?" Elara asked. "Isn't it a bit too early?"

"I'll drive you back." Harold insisted.

Elara glanced at the small plate of peeled fruit on the table. She turned to Lysander and said, "I'm heading home now. Uncle Harold called for me, so I think he has something to discuss." Lysander looked at her. "Alright."

"I'll miss you," she said, giving him a small smile before walking off, taking the plate of fruit with her.

Lysander watched her leave, his eyes softening. Ever since he returned to Starfield City, he had been forced into social engagements and meetings with elders, something he didn't enjoy at all. Lysander had thought tonight would be boring and hadn't wanted to attend. But seeing Elara made him feel like the night wasn't so bad after all.

Elara followed Harold downstairs, where they happened to bump into a woman who looked strikingly similar to Asher. The woman, accompanied by a little girl, greeted Harold. "Hi, Mr. Jarvis." "Mrs. Linde, hello," Harold responded.

"I was wondering if I could get one of your business cards, Mr. Jarvis?" the woman asked.

Harold nodded. "Of course."

Harold personally drove Elara home, and he was the one behind the wheel. As they were driving, Elara, sitting in the passenger seat, asked Harold, "Who was that woman who just greeted you?" "Her family runs a logistics business. Her husband and I have some business dealings. Why? Do you know her?" Harold replied.

"What's her last name?" Elara asked.

"I believe her maiden name is Shawn. But you've just arrived in Starfield City, so I doubt you know anyone here," Harold said.

"I might have mistaken her for someone else," Elara said. Hearing that her maiden name was Shawn, her suspicions were now almost confirmed.

For a long time, Elara had been trying to gather information about Asher's mother. She had gone to great lengths to make Asher like her.

Before her time travel, Elara had indeed found out some information about Asher's mother, but she didn't know what had happened afterward. Asher never shared anything with her. He wasn't the type to open up, especially not to her. He only ever confided in Daphne. 18:27 Wed, Nov 6 W

Just as she was lost in these thoughts, Harold spoke again. "You shouldn't spend too much time with Lysander from now on."

"Why?" Elara was surprised. "Uncle Harold, are you unhappy about me being with Lysander?"

No wonder Harold had deliberately made those comments in front of Lysander earlier today.

"Elara, I'm only thinking of what's best for you," Harold said. "Aren't things going well with your boyfriend? I remember his name is Asher."

"But I like Lysander now," Elara said.

'Harold's words are so strange, Elara thought. 'He doesn't even know Asher well. They've probably never even met. Why is he so eager for me to be with Asher?

Elara glanced at Harold. "My dad even wants me to be with Lysander. Why don't you approve, Uncle Harold?"

"I don't know what your dad's thinking, but I don't want you to be with him. If your mother were still alive, she wouldn't want you marrying into the Hawthorne family either," Harold said.

The mention of her mother left Elara silent. Her mother had passed away from illness. When she died, Elara was still very young and had fallen ill herself shortly after.

Later, Elara tried her best not to think about her mother. Her father had a habit of hiding away her mother's belongings. afraid they would make her sad.

Harold dropped her off at the front door but didn't go inside. He sat in the car and said, "Listen to me. Don't get too close to Lysander. Stay in Brookfield and replace someone you really like to marry.

"We have plenty of money; there's no need to try to climb into a family as prominent as the Hawthorne family."

Standing at the door, Elara replied, "Uncle Harold, you should head back."

She had been wondering why Harold suddenly insisted on taking her home. Now she understood. It was because he didn't want her getting too close to Lysander.

Since Elara had gone to Starfield City, Ursa gave everyone a break.

Asher returned home. That evening, Jefferson came home from work, having just switched shifts. Seeing Asher alone in the house, he asked, "What are you doing back? Aren't you staying at the Kensington residence?" Asher wasn't in a great mood, his face sullen. "Elara went to Starfield City. There's no one

now."

"She went to Starfield City? And she didn't take you with her?" Jefferson asked.

Asher, in his foul mood, didn't feel like responding to his father. He walked into his room and shut the door.

Sitting down, he remembered something Elara had once said to him, "Asher, I've been trying to replace someone to help you look into your mother's situation. If I hear anything, I'll tell you right away."

Back when Asher and Elara were together, he wasn't too interested in most of the things she talked about, except for this one. This was the only topic that really mattered to him.

But now, with Elara gone to Starfield City, Asher wasn't sure if she still remembered his situation. The more he thought about how she had actually fought him because of Lysander, the more Asher felt that his frustration just wouldn't go away. Just then, Daphne messaged him: [Asher, how's Starfield City? Fun?]

She had secretly checked Elara's Instagram and saw that Elara was in Starfield City, so she assumed Asher was there with her. Daphne felt a bit envious.

Her message felt like salt on Asher's wound. Asher had seen Elara's Instagram post too. Daphne thought he had gone to Starfield City, but in reality, he was hiding out in his little house Asher didn't respond to Daphne's message.

The next day, before Elara could even get up, a servant came to call her. "Miss Kensington, Mr. Hawthorne is here."

Elara came downstairs to replace Lysander standing by the window in the living room, looking outside. It had just started snowing.

Elara walked up behind him and stretched. "It's snowing."

He turned to her and noticed she was still in her pajamas. "You're not awake yet?"

"I was planning on sleeping in a bit more, but then I heard you were here, so I came down to see you," Elara said, looking at Lysander. "Why did you suddenly come over?"

Lysander replied, "I had some free time, so I thought I'd stop by. There's nothing fun going on at home anyway."

For the past few days, everyone had been busy around him, and Lysander hadn't had the chance to break away. But today, he finally had some time to himself.

Compared to the atmosphere with the Hawthorne family, Lysander much preferred being here with Elara.

Elara smiled. "After breakfast, why don't we go skiing?"

She had been busy with house hunting for the past couple of days. By May next year, Starfield City's housing restrictions would be enforced, and after that, she wouldn't be able to buy any property. She wanted to get everything settled before that happened.

Now that Lysander was free, it was the perfect time for her to relax and enjoy some time with him.

Elara had been having a wonderful time over the past few days, hanging out with Lysander.

He rarely went back to the Hawthorne residence and spent most of his free time with Elara.

Two days before Christmas, Barrett returned. Elara and Lysander walked into the house together. "Hi, Dad," Elara greeted him.

Barrett was sitting on the couch, and beside him was a woman, Lysander's stepmother, whom they had previously met at Harold's place.
