For a while, when Lysander was staying at the Kensington residerice, Barrelt would always cook for them himself.
Even though Barrett was a business owner, he never acted high and nighty at home. But that was back then "Alright, come over and eat, Barrett called to the two kids.
Elara and Lysander sat down together in the dining room.
For Elara, this Christmas felt completely different from previous years. Last year, she had spent it with her father too, along. with Asher and the others, but for her, it felt like many years had passed in between. Before her time travel, every Christmas was spent alone in a rented apartment, with no father, no family, no one who liked her, and no one she liked. She was just a solitary figure, enduring both loneliness and illness. Now, with her dad sitting in front of her and Lysander nearby, Elara was genuinely happy.
"By the way, Dad, I'm planning to apply to Quernsun University when I take my SATS, Elara said.
"Sounds good," Barrett replied. "You've got some ambition there
In truth, Barrett didn't really care too much about his daughter's grades. Even if Flara didn't do well, it wouldn't matter much. After all, Elara didn't need to rely on SAT scores to change her fate.
But hearing she had such a goal still made Barrett proud. "You've made so much progress academically. It's impressive. A used to think you were as dumb as me, but now I see you take after your mom." Barrett wasn't great at school. He had barely gotten into a university in Starfield City, and even Jefferson had outperformed
him.
Barrett had always had a knack for business, with a sharp mind for deals, but when it came to school, he really struggled.
Elara's mother, on the other hand, was different. She had been a top student at Queensun University and later became a renowned attorney in Starfield City.
They had met when Elara's mother helped Barrett win a patent case. He had pursued her for a long time before finally winning her over.
Everyone said he was incredibly lucky to marry such a beautiful woman. Barrett agreed, and he didn't mind at all.
To Barrett, it truly felt like a blessing that someone as sharp and brilliant as Elara's mother had chosen him, an ordinary businessman.
my mom really that
lly that smart?" Elara asked.
"Was my
"Of course," Barrett said, his face glowing with pride as he spoke of her mother, "She was incredibly smart. She was famous back in her days at Queensun University, with tons of people trying to win her over. "And since she was a lawyer, well, you know how lawyers are, they're great with words. I could never win an argument with
her
Elara listened to Barrett's words and said, "I can't believe Mom was a lawyer. That's amazing
She won nearly every case. Except for..." Barrett's expression suddenly became complicated. He quickly changed the subject "Let's toast. You two can drink juice. I'll have a little wind It's Christmas after all, and we're celebrating." Barrett was genuinely in high spirits. After dinner, he drank a bit too much and his face flushed with intoxication. Monica

came over to help him upstairs to rest.
Elara and Lysander remained downstairs, watching TV in the living room. Lysander was sitting nearby, unusually quiet tonight.
Elara sat on the carpet in front of the sofa and looked up at Lysander. "What do you think my mom was like? Why can't remember her at all?"
Lysander had been especially silent since Barrett mentioned his wife earlier. Now, seeing Elara so fixated on this, Lysander looked down at her. "If you can't remember, don't force it. One day, you might just remember naturally." Elara lifted her head and glanced at him: Lysander was seated on the sofa, looking down at her from above. His striking features seemed to glow in her eyes.
"Lysander, you're really good-looking Elara complimented him.
Lysander heard what she said and gazed at her tenderly. He slid off the sofa and sat on the floor next to her. Elara leaned against him. "I'm a bit sleepy"
They were originally planning to stay up until midnight to watch the fireworks, but after eating, she started to feel drowsy "Take a nap"Lysander suggested. "I'll wake you up when it's time
Elara nodded. Not long after she fell asleep, her phone buzzed. Lysander reached over to silence it. When he picked up the phone, he saw a message from Asher. It read [Merry Christmas Eve, Elara.] Without hesitation, Lysander tapped the delete button.
Because the new semester started early, Elara and Lysander only stayed a few days in Starfield City before they had to return to Brookfield ahead of schedule. Before leaving. Elara had dinner with her father.
Remembering what had happened before her time travel, how her father had gotten into an accident just a few days before her SATS, Elara decided to speak up. "Dad, can you take a month off around my SATS to stay with me?" Barrett looked at her. "I've got a lot going on. I can get someone else to keep you company."
"Dad," Elara insisted, "this is a big deal in my life. You can't just slack off. If you don't promise, I'm going to be really mad at you."
Sometimes Barrett would get so busy with work that Elara wouldn't see him for a month or two.
She was worried that if she didn't make things clear now, she wouldn't be able to reach him when the time came. So, she had to lock him in early.
Seeing the serious look on Elara's face, Barrett sighed. "Does it have to be me? Isn't Lysander doing a good job keeping you company?*
"It's not the same, Elara replied. Of course, she wasn't just looking for company. She wanted to change what had happened before her time travel.
"He's not my dad. I just feel like if you're there with me, I'll feel more secure. You really have to come, a month early. Remember that. If you don't show up, I'll be really upset," she added firmly.
Elara knew that if she called later, he might think she was being dramatic and replace some excuse to dodge the request, So, she was particularly adamant now. After much coaxing, Barrett finally agreed to her request Elara returned to Brookfield with Lysander Ursa and the others had already resumed work ahead of time, cleaning the

The moment Elara got out of the car, she saw Asher. She though things between her and Asher were over after what had happened the last time. She didn't expect to see him the moment she got hack. Luckily, Lysander wasn't there. He had gone straight to the Clark family from the airport. Otherwise, Lysander would definitely be unhappy if he saw Asher..
Asher reached out to take the bag from her hand.
"What are you doing?" Elara asked.
"It's been a while. Haven't you missed me?" Asher gazed at her, his eyes soft, his voice gentle and smooth.
Elara noticed that, perhaps because they hadn't seen each other for a while, Asher seemed a bit more handsome. However, Asher's immediate switch to this kind of talk made her feel a little uneasy.
She was more used to Asher being dismissive of her. "I thought after I slapped you last time, you'd be mad at me and wouldn't show up again," Elara said. "Didn't you used to have a pretty big temper?"
"I hurt you, and I deserved it. Asher replied. "Compared to all the things I've done in the past, even if you slapped me again. I'd take it.
Asher's attitude toward admitting his faults was remarkably sincere. Elara looked at him, surprised that he had come to such a deep self-reflection.
After sitting on the plane for so long, Elara's ears felt a little uncomfortable. She sat down on the couch, and Asher came over. "I brought your report card," he said, handing it to her.
