Chapter 184 The Family’s Dignity

Yvonne remained silent and only smiled at Steven.

Her smile held many unspoken thoughts, like a thin mist shrouding her face.

It was then that Steven realized how difficult Yvonne could be.

He had been working in the outside world for many years and had met all kinds of people, but Yvonne was the most unique of them all.

She wasn’t very old, her methods weren’t ruthless, but her reactions were quick enough.

Most importantly, she had a steady heart and kept things hidden deeply, making her unpredictable, forcing him to come and ask her directly.

But it had little effect, which made him, a person who only cared about results, quite annoyed.

His face showed a hint of impatience, and his eyes revealed a glint of cunning.

“Yvonne, every minute he’s late is a minute he cares less about you. I know very well how much you love him.”

Steven leaned back in the passenger seat, speaking leisurely, not caring at all whether his words were hitting where it hurt.

His tone was casual, but every word was like a sharp blade, trying to pierce Yvonne’s heart.

Yvonne didn’t speak, her expression remained calm.

She turned her gaze slightly to the window, trying to keep herself composed.

The night outside was deep, and the neon lights reflected colorful patterns on the car window, casting a somewhat dreamy glow on her face.

In front of such a man, keeping silent was the best choice.

If any word was said wrong and revealed something, it would not be good.

As for Benson, she didn’t care anymore.

However, when he truly ignored her, a slight sadness arose in her heart, a faint sense of loss that made her heart tremble slightly.

Arriving at a hotel in the city of Lin, the night deepened, and Steven still hadn’t seen anyone.

His brows were furrowed, clearly showing some impatience.

He knew that in this game, the initiative was in Benson’s hands.

Time passed by the minute, and Steven’s face grew more somber.

His fingers tapped rhythmically on the table, as if adding a touch of patience for himself.

In the hotel room, Yvonne remained calm, she walked to the window, drew

back the curtains, and looked at the neon lights outside.

She turned to look at those staring at her and softly said, “Let’s go to the game room and play mahjong

Her voice was gentle but carried an undeniable firmness.

The others exchanged glances but complied nonetheless.

Steven held his phone, arms crossed, leaning against the door, watching Yvonne’s back coldly.

“Yvonne, you are now kidnapped. His tone was laced with sarcasm, his eyes flickering with disdain.

Yvonne turned around, smiling, her tone calm.

“First of all, even if Benson doesn’t like me, I am still his wife, and his parents treat me well. You wouldn’t dare do anything bad to me.”

Her voice was gentle, but her words were firm,

She knew that if he really intended to “kidnap” her, Steven would have already taken her away, instead of “politely” knocking on her car window.

Moreover, Steven’s business focus had shifted back to the country. Going against the Taylor family, only a fool would do that.

He came, truly putting up a front, but his real purpose was wondering why. Benson wanted to help – “Olivia.”

Steven’s eyes flickered, seemingly pondering her words.

He leaned against the door frame, a mocking smile on his face, “I kind of understand why he doesn’t like you now.”

His tone was filled with obvious provocation, as if testing her limits.

Yvonne, picking tiles, was getting a bit annoyed by his constant jabs at her.

She coldly responded, “He doesn’t like me, Olivia doesn’t like you, so let’s not talk about each other!”

Her voice carried a hint of anger, but more so, it was calm and rational.

Steven’s face turned ugly, anger flashed in his eyes, but he quickly controlled his emotions, forcing a smile.

Yvonne saw this and coldly laughed again, adding, “You imprisoning her won’t make her love you!”

Her tone was laced with obvious sarcasm, a glint of disdain flashing in her

eyes.

Steven’s fingers trembled slightly, he didn’t speak, dialing Benson’s

number.

The phone rang a few times, but no one answered.

He suddenly laughed; it was indeed interesting.

His heart was truly ruthless, did he really not plan to take care of his wife?

The mahjong game continued until 11:30 PM. Yvonne’s expression rémained calm, and Steven’s phone finally rang, but the call wasn’t from

Benson.

A deep voice came from the other end, “Old Mr. Charles personally issued a command, as a junior, respect is naturally required…”

The voice carried a sense of authority and an indisputable order.

Steven hung up the phone, his eyes turning deep.

A faint cold smile appeared at the corners of his mouth.

After a series of loud doorbell rings, Steven knowingly signaled his

subordinate to answer the door.

The door opened, and Victoria led a group of people inside with firm steps that couldn’t be ignored.

Several attendants followed her, each with a different look but equally tense expressions.

Everyone seemed ready to respond to any sudden situation that might. erupt.

Victoria quickly scanned the entire room, her sharp, eagle–like gaze pausing in every corner, as if searching for something important.

When her eyes finally landed on Yvonne, who appeared somewhat absent- minded at the mahjong table, her face relaxed slightly, and she showed a nearly imperceptible smile.

However, her eyes still carried worry and tension, as if any small matter could trigger a storm.

When entering, even though Steven saw Victoria, he politely greeted her, with his signature smile at the corners of his mouth.

But Victoria ignored this politeness, walked directly up to Steven, and without hesitation slapped him across the face.

The sound was cold and carried undeniable anger: “You bastard, how dare. you take my Taylor family’s daughter–in–law without saying a word?”

Her voice was full of fury and authority, and her eyes were as sharp as a knife, as if piercing through the secrets of people’s hearts.

Steven was slightly surprised by this action but quickly regained his composure, seemingly unaffected.

Yvonne was obviously frightened by what she saw.

She hurriedly stood up, grasping her mother–in–law’s arm, with a clear look. of panic on her face, and her eyes were full of pleading and helplessness.

Even though Steven appeared harmless, it was well–known that he had powerful forces and dark means behind him.

Such a person, even the Taylor family, wouldn’t easily provoke.

Steven chuckled, apparently admiring Victoria’s courage.

He replied in a relaxed tone, “Victoria, truly a heroine among women.”

This statement seemed to indicate he didn’t mind the slap earlier; instead, he found such women more attractive.

The air in the room became even more oppressive due to this

confrontation.

Victoria’s cold gaze toward Steven seemed to carry a thousand words; she was a woman who had weathered countless storms.

Whether it was the internal strife within the Taylor family or external impacts, she could handle them with ease.

This made every one of her actions and expressions appear extremely decisive and powerful.

And at this moment, her warning to Steven undoubtedly revealed her unchallengeable authority and her strong protective instinct for family members.
