Chapter 185 Benson’s Absence
“But I’m not like Mr. Steven. My family, the Taylors, are not to be trifled with. If there’s something you want, let’s talk it over; everything can be discussed,” Victoria’s voice was low and firm, her gaze as sharp as a knife, cutting through any facade of deceit.
“I don’t want a next time for such things to happen, and I don’t care what kind of person Mr. Steven is out there. In front of me, you must bow your head.”
Her stance was resolute and authoritative, like a general issuing a final
ultimatum on the battlefield.
Yvonne felt her mother–in–law’s unwavering determination, and a sense of admiration grew in her heart.
She thought to herself how Victoria’s words were so decisive and straightforward, displaying a demeanor that inspired deep respect.
“It was my oversight,” Steven raised his head, his eyes filled with complex emotions, “But your son is flirting with my wife.”
Hearing this, Victoria’s eyes twitched, her pupils slightly contracted, and her expression instantly became serious.
“How is that possible? My son is very devoted to his wife right now. Why would he be flirting with your wife?”
Steven chuckled lightly, carrying a hint of sarcasm, “Devoted, so devoted, yet why hasn’t he shown up?”
His voice carried an undeniable coldness, as if the truth of the matter was already clear.
Victoria’s heart tightened, and she now felt very confused as well.
She quickly recalled everything that had happened earlier, realizing the situation was far more complicated than she had imagined.
The light was dim, and through the window, you could see the lights of the

cars and sparse pedestrians on the street outside, highlighting the silence. of the night.
Dinner continued, but the atmosphere at the dining table grew heavier.
Victoria’s eyes occasionally glanced toward the door, as if expecting something, yet all she saw was deepening silence.
She sat at the head of the table, her expression serious, fingers gently tapping the table, but her heart was filled with anxiety and helplessness.
Before long, both Benson and Steven went up to the study.
Shortly after, Benson hurriedly left the house, his expression grave, as if he had something important to attend to.
Victoria felt a wave of helplessness wash over her heart, and her dissatisfaction with Benson grew even more.
She watched his figure disappear outside the door, feeling increasingly heavy–hearted.
Less than half an hour later, her husband also left, leaving her alone in the
house.
The driver informed her to pick up Yvonne, and Victoria’s anxiety only
intensified.
Upon arriving at the hotel, Victoria finally understood the whole story.
She found Benson’s whereabouts still elusive, which only added to her
distress.
She glanced at her watch, the hands moving slowly, as if continuing a frustratingly tense rhythm.
The lighting in the hotel lobby was soft, the air filled with a faint fragrance, but none of this could mask her inner tension and unease.
Victoria held Yvonne’s hand tightly.
“This is a matter of our family, and we don’t need you to interfere.”
Her tone carried authority, clearly not wanting outsiders to meddle in their
family affairs.
As she walked Yvonne to the door, she made a point to look back, her tone. stern, “Don’t meddle in our family’s matters again.”
Victoria arranged for someone to drive Yvonne’s car away, then took her into the vehicle.
The scenery outside the car window sped by; the night had fallen, and the street lights cast an atmosphere of silence and desolation.
The atmosphere inside the car was stifling, Victoria’s palms slightly sweating. She turned to ask tentatively, “How are you feeling?”
Yvonne shook her head, her voice carrying a hint of fatigue, “I’m fine, he’s just trying to scare me. This whole thing was indeed caused by me.”
Her tone was calm, but Victoria could sense her tension and unease.
Victoria felt a pang of sorrow for her daughter.
She gently patted Yvonne’s back, her voice soft and caring, “Mom, you’ve
worked hard.”
Her words were full of a mother’s love and comfort for her daughter.
Even though she knew Yvonne would be okay, seeing her face such difficulties, Victoria’s heart couldn’t remain calm.
Especially seeing Steven taking Yvonne into the hotel, the men who opened the door made her uneasy.
She noticed a few tall security guards standing at the door, their faces carrying a professional seriousness, their eyes shining with vigilance.
A feeling of apprehension rose within her.
Yvonne’s face, though she tried hard to maintain composure, showed traces of fear and helplessness. Victoria couldn’t help but want to protect her closely.
“What on earth is that dog Benson busy with?”
Victoria’s voice was laced with anger and dissatisfaction.
“Even at such a critical moment for Yvonne, he doesn’t show up. What’s the use of having him?”
Her tone was filled with blame and disappointment, her attitude towards Benson growing colder.
Hearing Victoria’s words, Yvonne also felt a complex emotion arise in her heart.
Her face turned slightly pale, her thoughts chaotic. She knew Benson’s reaction left her feeling heartbroken, disappointment, and pain washing over her, engulfing her heart.
She lowered her head slightly, trying to conceal the turmoil within, taking a deep breath.
“He hasn’t even made a phone call, letting things develop, leaving me feeling heartbroken,”
Yvonne’s voice trembled slightly, trying to hide her inner pain, yet unable to conceal the grievances and anger in her heart.
“Not to mention that I’m just his wife, but even if a stranger were in such a predicament, wouldn’t he care?”
Listening to Yvonne, Victoria felt even more sympathy.
She knew that Yvonne’s feelings for Benson had been deeply hurt.
Victoria squeezed Yvonne’s hand, trying to remain calm, “You’re scared, huh? From now on, whether going to work or coming home, you should have a bodyguard.”
Yvonne let out a light laugh, forcing a smile, “Mom, that’s too much.
Today’s incident was an accident. I’ll be careful in the future, and I’ll take Megan with me.”
When she mentioned Megan, there was a hint of helplessness and apology in her tone.
Today, Megan was unable to accompany her due to other commitments, which left her feeling somewhat regretful.
Victoria held her hand, eyes full of concern.
After returning from St. George, she felt a subtle change in the mother- daughter relationship.
She knew Yvonne was going through a tough time, and as her mother, she felt her responsibilities growing heavier.
Silently, she prayed in her heart, hoping for better times ahead.
“Yvorine, as for Benson, he has many issues, and as his mother, I haven’t done my part well
Victoria sighed, her voice tinged with self blame
Her relationship with her husband had always been good, but because they were busy with their careers when they were young, the bond with their two sons wasn’t as strong as she had imagined.
Victoria felt deeply guilty, knowing that Benson’s behavior indeed reflected his immaturity in relationships
“Mom, don’t say that.” Yvonne spoke softly, her tone carrying fatigue and helplessness
She already had plans for her future decisions, though she didn’t explicitly mention the idea of divorce
But she knew that with Olivia returning to Las Vegas, their relationship would inevitably change
Victoria sensed Yvonne’s silence, knowing that talking about her son no longer interested her
She chose to remain silent, a premonition rising in her heart.
Yvonne, I will support you no matter what you do. Her voice was filled with a mother’s firmness and support
