Chapter 64
“Which part of it?”
“About Alan trying to figure it all out?”
“Yes…”
“He informed my classmate that ‘Mommy and Daddy kiss a lot.“”
Ana choked. “He did not.”
“Yes, he did.”
Anastasia purred. “We will have to talk about that later. What I would like to know is how this person responded.”
“What else did we do?” Damien prompted.
“We colored and pwayed wif Mario.”
“Sounds like you guys had a really busy day. Are you tired?”
“No,” Alan grumbled, but he yawned right after it.
Ana chuckled. “Really?”
“Say goodnight, kiddo,” Damien coaxed.
“Goodnight, kiddo,” Alan barely got the words out before bursting into giggles.”
Ana joined in on the laughter. “I love you, baby. Be a good boy for Daddy, okay? Sleep well.”
“Kay, Mommy.”
Damien took the phone off speaker and heard Ana warn him. “Don’t let him talk you into staying up late. He can be really persuasive when he wants to be.”
“Don’t worry. I am good at negotiation.”
“Oh, you think you are good? Just remember that Alan will be awake at seven no matter when he goes to sleep. If he doesn’t get enough rest, he will be a cranky monster.”
“Ana, stop worrying. I know.”
“So, you had a good day?”
“It was absolutely fantastic,” Damien said. He looked around to make sure Alan couldn’t hear him. “What about you? Did you take that bath like you planned?”
“I’m just getting undressed for it.” She sighed in contentment, making Damien almost drop his phone.
“Really?” he whispered longingly.
The answer to his question came in form of the sound of water being disturbed. Damien imagined her sinking into the steaming water and it gliding over her skin and coming to rest right over her perky nipples.
“Damien?”
He was busy wondering what she would do in the bath. Would she touch herself? Or think about him as she did?
Damien?”
He looked down at his now hard niember through the material of his pants.
“Damien!”
“What?” he finally responded.
“Stop imagining me naked and put our son to bed.”
“You know what you did and it wasn’t nice of you.”
She giggled. “Aw, I’m sorry.”
Damien could still hear the water splashing around. “Ana, you’re killing me.”
“I will see you in the morning,” she teased seductively before hanging up.
Damien sucked in a deep cleansing breath before calling for Alan. However, he didn’t respond.
“Alan? Where are you?”
When he didn’t get a response still, Damien thought that Alan had gone upstairs to the guest bedroom. He opened the guest bedroom and didn’t see him inside. Fear gripped him as he rushed to his own bedroom.
The breath he was holding rushed out of his lungs when he opened the door and found a giggling lump on his bed, under
the sheets.
Damien paced around the room, pretending to search for him. “Where could my little boy have gone?”
Cue more giggling.
“Could he be under the bed?” He paused for effect. “No… he’s not there.”
Finally, he sat down on the edge of the bed. “I guess I will replace him in the morning. I’m so sleeeepy,” he yawned dramatically and cuddled into the small lump.
“Oh! How did my bed get so lumpy?” He poked.
Alan threw the covers back and squealed. “It’s me, Daddy!”
Damien gasped playfully and wrapped his arms around Alan. He pulled Alan into a hug. “There you are! I was looking everywhere for you.”
“I was right here, Daddy.”
“I can see that now.” They sat silently for a few minutes before Alan yawned again. “It’s time to go to bed, kiddo.”
“Daddy, can I sweep with you?”
Damien wasn’t opposed to the idea. Ana had shared a room with Alan all the time. Besides, it was their night together. “Sure.”
He tucked Alan under the covers and changed into his own pajamas. It wasn’t his intention to fall asleep immediately after crawling into bed next to Alan, but he did. Alan was curled up into his side, smuggling against Damien’s arm. Damien. wrapped the other arm around Alan, relishing the experience..
It was at that moment he realized life would be nothing without Alan. He recognized that there was a God who knew exactly how to bring Damien to his knees.
Damien’s eyes grew heavy and the next thing he knew, Alan was shaking him awake.
Daddy. Daaaaddy. Daddyyyÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ!
Damien groaned and squinted. “What’s the matter?”
“You’re heavy.”
Damien lifted his head and realized that his hand was pinning Alan to his place. “Sorry, kiddo.”
He looked at the clock and sure enough, it was seven. Damien didn’t remember the last time he had gotten that much sleep. He turned the television on in the bedroom and let Alan watch his shows while he took a shower.
It was Damien’s first time showering without locking his door. He just felt like something would happen and he would have to sprint out. When he was done, he got them both dressed and made breakfast.
Alan ooh’d and aah’d at the number of sweet treats and Damien wondered how much Ana would scold him when Alan bounced off the walls when he handed Alan over.
The rest of the week was spent visiting pre–schools. The first one they picked sounded great on paper but had too many kids. The second one was good but Ana was scared of committing before exploring all her options. Five more schools later, they ended up at the second school.
It was right between Damien and Ana’s office and it would be easy for both of them to pick up and drop Alan off.
The principal gave them paperwork, which they dutifully filled out. Problems arose when Ana wrote a check for the admission and deposit. Damien wanted to pay it, but Ana wouldn’t allow that to happen.
So they decided that Damien would pay the monthly fees, whereas Ana would pay the semester and deposits. That way, they would have equal financial responsibility.
Damien understood where she was coming from. He had originally accused her of being after his money, but things had changed. They were family, and they should share all the responsibilities equally.
