Chapter 65
It was while they were filling out paperwork that Damien found a problem. Anastasia handed him one of the forms to sign and he was drawn to the issue immediately.
“Hey, Ana?” Damien pushed the paperwork in her direction and tapped the pen. She looked at the paper and then at him.
“What is it?”
“His name.”
“Yeah, his name is right.”
“It says Reid… Can we change it to Wright?” he asked nervously.
Ana bit her lip. “Your… your name is not on his birth certificate, Damien.”
“Oh.” He quickly brought the papers back in front of him.
“It will take some time to get the birth certificate modified, but we already have the DNA results. That will cut down some time from the process,” she assured, resting her hand on top
of his.
“Thank you,” he said finally and ducked his head to steal a quick kiss. They behaved themselves for the most part, but it was literally getting harder to keep their hands to themselves. And though Damien was close to losing his mind, he wasn’t about to mess their relationship up because he wanted action.
On Sunday morning, they went to the park as usual. They drove separately because Damien had to sit in on an emergency meeting.
Damien carried Alan on his shoulders and to Ana’s car. He sang quite a few rhymes on the way there. Damien strapped Alan into his seat and turned to give Ana some love.
“You didn’t forget about our date tonight, did you?” he asked.
“I wouldn’t dare. What should I wear?”
“Something comfortable. We are not doing anything fancy, today.”
“Are you sure we are not?”
Damien smirked and shook his head. “I am sure. Wear pants, please.”
“Let me know in advance if I need rock climbing shoes,” she teased, but there was a note of caution in her voice.
Damien threw his head back and laughed. “Your shoes don’t matter. But I would rather you didn’t wear heels. Your ankles. are under duress enough as it is. Just dress for comfort.”
Ana rolled her eyes. “I am so used to heels and fancy.”
“Oh, I remember walking in on you wearing your pajamas… I am not sure about fancy… I quite liked you comfortable.”
He watched as her cheeks pinked. Damien kissed the tip of her nose and turned away. “I’ll pick you up at six, sharp.”
Damien thought he had gotten the last word, but he was wrong.
“Have a great day at work, dear,” she teased.
Damien stopped mid–step and turned to face her. With two long strides, he was back in front of her, wrapping her in his arms. He pressed his lips to hers. He must have caught her unaware, but she pulled away, trying to gasp for air.
I will, sweetie. See you tonight.” He flashed her a smile, completely disarming her before disappearing into his car.
Ana had no idea where she was headed. She simply followed Damien’s instructions. She was wearing a pair of skinny jeans and a top. Even her hair was pulled back into a ponytail, keeping her hair off her face.
“You look so cute today,” Damien commented, winking at her as they got out of the car.
Anastasia blushed and Damien was reminded of how smitten he was with her. He would do anything for her.
“What is this?” she whispered. Horrified. “Why do I feel like I am about to die here today.”
“Don’t be a wimp. It’s not that much.”
Ana looked sideways and wrinkled her nose before giggling. “Just kidding. This looks fun. I have seen a few horror movies in this setting though.”
“Forget about them. I am going to show you a good time. Dinner and movies is too cliche for a first date. And I think you deserve so much more… creative and fun.” He leaned in deviously. “You should relax a little.”
“Mr. Wright, are you calling me a prude?” she asked seriously.
“On Mondays…” he teased without missing a beat. “And sometimes on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays—”
“Okay, I got your point. But I have to say, this is much more impressive than anything I could have imagined. Lead the way.”
They entered through one of the closed entries. The ground was covered in dirt and the sweet smell of carnival food was almost pungent. Teenagers ran around the place holding hands. It seemed like everyone was in heat. And they were loud.
“I don’t want to ask my mom if I was like this as a teenager,” Damien commented.
“I wasn’t, at least… You on the other hand-” she teased.
“Me?” he retorted, feigning hurt. Ana laughed. “What do you want to start with? Rides, food, or games?”
“Let me think about it.” She tapped on her chin. “Most rides spin in circles and I am not sure if my stomach can handle that after food. Let’s do that first.”
“Good plan.”
They spent the next hour making rounds of the most thrilling rides. It was Ana’s sick look that put a stop to that.
“Time out,” she groaned. “I can’t handle anymore.”
Damien looked over and smirked. “A shame. I would have liked another ride.”
Ana slapped his arm, scoffing, “Dirty mind.”
“And you love it,” he countered.
“That I do. But I can’t guarantee anything if you don’t feed me.”
Damien threaded his fingers through hers and pulled her towards the food stalls. “What do you want to eat?” he asked.
“I want sausage.” She rolled her eyes when Damien started snickering. “Damien, seriously, how old are you?”
“You keep walking into the trap, baby. If you want sausage, I’ll give you a big, juicy sausage.”
Ana was trying not to laugh but she was unsuccessful. They ordered and started eating. “You’ve got tomato sauce on your lip,” Ana said, pointing to her own mouth.
“Just get it for me.”
Ana reached up to his mouth and used her thumb to wipe the smudge away. Damien grabbed her wrist, looked at her, and flashed her a grin before sucking her finger into his mouth. He swirled his tongue around it, making her bite her lip. Her pupil dilated as he pressed her up against a wall. Finally, he crushed his lips to hers.
